Hydrodynamic Behavior of Bubbles in Slot Channels.

We present the results of laboratory experiments investigating the dynamics of air bubbles rising in stagnant or co-flowing liquid (water) in inclined channels of rectangular crosssections. The experiments were conducted in a basic Plexiglas channel (1300 x 240 x 20 mm, in length (L), width (W), and height (H), respectively). Different channel geometries were obtained by insertion of suitably varied plates into the basic channel. Channel inclinations were ranging from alfa = 5̊ (almost horizontal) to 90̊ (vertical). Measurements and data analysis were carried out with the use of a high speed video camera system and image processing technique providing information on the bubble shape (bubble length LB and volume VB) and bubble rise velocity UB. The specific impact of channel geometry and inclination on the shape, stability, and velocity of rising bubbles was studied and discussed.\n

In our study, we focused on substances with inhibitory (antibiotic) and estrogenic (endocrine disruptors) activity to assess the unpredictable risk to the soil environment associated with the usage of sewage sludge as a fertilizer in agriculture.

Changes in Sub-micron Number Size Distributions at Czech Rural and Urban Background Stations in the Last Ten Years.

In this work, not only total concentrations are evaluated, but also particle number size distributions (PNSD) are compared in the last decade at the two stations, and possible explanations for the change in concentrations and PNSD changes are looked for. Additionally, also the change in the frequency and strength of the NPF events is evaluated.\n

Properties of Biochar Produced by Slow Pyrolysis of Stabilized Sewage Sludge.

Direct application of stabilized sewage sludge on agricultural soil is currently a big concern because of its significant content of detectable organic micropollutants. Proper sludge treatment should suppress its negative features and produce material suitable for soil amendment. Slow pyrolysis is one of such treatments. We studied the influence of pyrolysis temperature (400-800 °C) on material and energy balances and on elementary composition of the pyrolysis solid residue (biochar). Pyrolysis at higher temperatures resulted in lesser biochar yield and promoted gas yield. The macronutrient content of biochar increased with an increase in pyrolysis temperature (except for nitrogen).
