Intelligibility of Lexical Units in the Extracts From Reading-Books for Pupils of Lower Secondary Schools

This bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of comprehensibility of lexical units in examples from reading-books for lower secondary school pupils. The work is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part deals with lexicology and individual concepts that relate to this linguistic discipline and the subject of research. It also includes a discussion of writing style, current research, the concept of teaching the Czech language and the relationship of RVP to teaching vocabulary. The practical research part presents and interprets data obtained from quantitative and qualitative research conducted at two schools. The research was carried out using a questionnaire survey and subsequent interviews with pupils of the 6th and 9th grades of lower secondary school. The questionnaires contained the highlighted lexemes under study in excerpted sentences selected from the reading books intended for the respective classes. The aim of the research was to find out whether the pupils understand the words listed in the questionnaire, whether they can explain them or replace them with synonyms or whether they can derive their meaning from the context of the sentence. Development of Vocabulary in Elementary School Pupils

The master's thesis focuses on developing pupils' vocabulary and the current didactic perspective on how to contribute to its highest level. The theoretical part primarily addresses the professional view on language acquisition in children and the specifics of speech and vocabulary development in different age periods before and during school age. The theoretical section also presents the research results on the speed of vocabulary acquisition in children and pays attention to vocabulary learning. In the practical part of the thesis, a research study was conducted to determine the vocabulary level among 5th-grade pupils using the Type-Token Ratio (TTR) index. Two main research questions were formulated for the study. The first research question examined whether the richness of students' vocabulary improves after they engage in text exercises and didactic games aimed at vocabulary practice. The second research question focused on differences in vocabulary richness between girls and boys. The results were compared with existing research studies. The research findings emphasise the importance of long-term and regular enrichment of vocabulary and highlight the role of teachers in supporting active word usage and communication in the teaching process. Vocabulary development on the 2nd grade of primary school
The thesis focuses on the level and development of vocabulary of upper primary school pupils, primarily in the 6th and 9th grade. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and empirical part. The aim of the theoretical part is to define the discipline of lexicology, the vocabulary and its individual elements. The empirical part of the thesis describes the research methodology and summarizes and further contrasts the results of a questionnaire survey conducted among pupils from three different primary schools.

The Linguistic Analysis of Selected Podcasts

This bachelor thesis deals with a relatively new phenomenon of the journalistic genre - the podcast. The aim of the work is to determine its language specifics. In the theoretical part, the podcast, as a new genre, is introduced and specified. Related terms are defined in this part too. Furthermore, selected podcasts are introduced in this section. The practical part is central to the thesis. It is based on linguistic analysis of specific speeches. The analysis focuses mainly on linguistic variations, peculiarities and shortcomings. For the best possible clarity, it is divided into subchapters according to linguistic levels. After the pilot survey podcasts that can be classified as educational were selected for the bachelor's thesis. Despite their similarity, they are diverse. In addition to the analysis itself, the result of the thesis is an evaluation of typical features, placing in a theoretical framework and drawing a conclusion in which the results of the research are confronted with hypotheses. Linguistic Analysis of Football Slang in the Colloquial Functional Style

The topic of the thesis is the linguistic analysis of colloquial football slang. The thesis is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part deals with slang and its classification within the Czech language. At the same time, the onomasiological procedures used in the creation of slangisms are presented. It also focuses on functional styles, especially the colloquial style. In the practical part, the excerpted material collected from discussions on the Internet is analysed mainly in terms of morphological, lexical and syntactic, but also semantic and etymological aspects. The thesis also includes the analysis and evaluation of a questionnaire survey aimed at finding out whether the knowledge of slang expressions differs across generations.
Lexical creativity during pandemic
This Bachelor's thesis aims to analyze excerpted sample of neologisms in French related to the Covid-19 pandemic. The theoretical part describes word-formation procedures used in French. The practical part deals with analyses of neologisms excerpted from the Néoveille platform and subsequently examined in the corpus Araneum Francogallicum Novum MMXXI Quadruplex.
Issues of archaisms and historicisms in the teaching of the Czech language at the 2nd level of elementary school

The diploma thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with the basic findings of lexicology. The thesis focuses on the general characteristics of lexicology - its history, general lexicological approaches, and its division. The idea of Czech vocabulary is elaborated in detail with the emphasis on vocabulary limited by time validity. It also focuses on curricular documents where vocabulary learning is embedded. The practical part is concerned with questionnaire survey, which first maps out the knowledge of concepts and understanding of archaic and historical words by pupils of middle school. It also points out how much attention is paid to teaching about archaism and historicism in the lessons of Czech language and literature.
Neologisms in the time of the "coronavirus crisis". Comparison of Czech and Spanish.
This thesis deals with the ways of formation of neologisms during the coronavirus crisis in the years 2019-21. After the initial introduction of neologism context and word-formation processes that occur in language, the thesis will focus on certain vocabulary connected with the coronavirus which occurs in the regular discourse of Spanish and Czech speakers.
