Ilienko, A. Factors that influence unemployment rate in Ukraine. Bachelor thesis. Brno: Mendel University, 2023. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to identify the factors affecting the unemploy-ment rate in Ukraine. The factors are identified based on theoretical knowledges and experience of other countries, mainly those with economies in transition. Next, the labor market in Ukraine, the state of the economy and factors that may affect the unemployment rate are investigated. The peculiarities of the Ukrainian labor market are also taken into account, such as a large part of the shadow economy, a high level of corruption, regional unemployment and labor forces migration. The influence of the average amount of unemployment benefits, corruption index, population aged 15-70 employed in the informal sector, minimum wage, GDP growth, FDI incoming, inflation index on the unemployment rate in Ukraine was tested. Statistically significant turned to be such factors as Corruption Index, Popu-lation employed in the informal sector, Minimum wage, and incoming FDI. The impact of the 2014 amendment of the Directive 92/85/EEC in the presence of women in the production sector
Caria Fernandes Ferreira Nunes, Madalena ; Nekola, Martin (advisor) ; Mysíková, Martina (referee)
As with many other public policies, the 2014 amendment of the Council directive 92/85/EEC, concerning the introduction of measures to encourage improvements in the safety and health at work of pregnant workers and workers who have recently given birth or are breastfeeding, may have unintended consequences, beyond its original purpose. Thus, this research aims to study if the aforementioned amendment caused some disturbance in the participation of women in the labour market, differentiating by production sectors. To do this, a sample of OECD countries was used to employ a differences-in-differences methodology, where the treatment group was the set of EU Countries subjected to this law. In addition, the model is extended to control for country-specific variables allowing for a descriptive analysis of the influence of the selected variables on the share of women in the different sectors. Although the effect of the amendment on the share of women in the analysed industries was found to be statistically insignificant using the differences-in-differences methodology, the covariates model offers interesting insights on the topics of fertility, education, maternity leave and employment protection. A brief analysis of variance has also shown that the countries that implemented women-specific legislation...
The impact of the coronavirus crisis on zombie companies in Slovakia
Bosáková, Diana ; Geršl, Adam (advisor) ; Teplý, Petr (referee)
The thesis examines the effect of Covid-19-related financial support on companies in Slovakia in 2020 with a special focus on zombie firms. We examine changes in the number of employees, the average wage and the total costs for companies after receiving financial support. The cross-sectional and fixed effects models are used to determine the effect of the subsidy. Our dataset covers 6,771 large firms from which 7.6% are zombies and 2,547 SMEs in the period 2019-2020. The analysis showed that around 56% of large firms in the sample, both zombie and non-zombie firms, received a subsidy. The results suggest that companies which received the financial support had on average poorer job retention, lower average wage and the effect of the total costs of the company was not statistically significant. Nevertheless, currently available data brings a limitation to the construction of the control group. The thesis contributes to a better understanding of how the pandemic affected zombie companies and the efficiency of Covid-19-related measures on them.
