Inventure of the City Center ? Brno – Veveří – Žerotínovo náměstí
Holá, Martina ; Chládek, Pavel (referee) ; Hybská, Bohumila (advisor)
The main subject of the thesis is a revision of current area framing northwest part of Žerotín Square, that nowadays consists of so called White house (center for children health care and a seat of a medical school). The design is based on theoretical situation concerning the removal of White house and therefore it uses the newly existing place as a subject for new architectural solution. The solution emphasizes the completion of current block of buildings with large courtyard and corner between Žerotín Square and Veveří street, which is very important for traffic. The thesis is focusing on finding the right form, scale and functional content which would reflect the importance of the location, especially focusing on the Brno’s ring road that goes directly to Denisovy sady and accessibility of this city’s part. It also respects the design of the back side of the Red Church. The design uses the newly existing place as a location for new apartment building that reflects the scale of similar buildings in Marešov and other nearby streets and it also proposes administration building as an architectural solution for this location, which would be used as a seat for both municipal and national institutions.

TRANSFORMATION OF BRONX IN BRNO
Najvarová, Lucie ; Karasová, Miroslava (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
The strategy reacts to social exclusion of inhabitants of the Cejl district. It supports employment and intends to build a dynamic public space, that is missing in the area. Social urbanism focuses on the interaction of inhabitants between each other and with the spaces, and creates conditions for new workplaces. The massive broken block gets the order. The park defines a system for future development and opens up new possibilities of usage. Thanks to its low cost construction, the park can work immediately. The order created by the park allows the future objects to emerge freely and spontaneously. The design is not definitive, but it works in every phase or combination.

Historical Houses Jihlava
Vymazalová, Tereza ; Kafková, Tereza (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the issue of "Jihlava historical houses" (hereinafter JHD), which primary use today is for a permanent housing with unsatisfactory characteristics. Most apartments consist of a studio apartment with minimal or shared sanitary facilities. This condition arose due to the layout changes during the 18th and 19th centuries, when a large part of the spacious Renaissance and Baroque palace houses were transformed into intensively used apartment buildings. Given the situation persists to this day, it is necessary to think about changing the nature of such houses as part of the city's development. The diploma thesis addresses the location of the southeastern tip of Jihlava's Masaryk Square, which has the ambition to soon transform into a cultural HUB of the city and includes seven JHD. As more than half of these houses were already discussed at the faculty, the university have already prepared a plan of changes in the houses` nature. It is nonetheless necessary for a comprehensive overview of changes in the locality to prepare a study of the last two JHD, which are adjacent to one another. The objective of the paper is to address the functional characteristics of these houses regarding their placement within the city. Consideration is given to the studies and planned changes within the area - the reconstruction of Masaryk Square and the ongoing reconstruction of the house Masaryk Square 21, which bound to become the center of culture, education and tourism. The houses No. 22 and 23, which this paper addresses, are now enclosed by the future cultural and social house and the existing Vysočina Regional Gallery - this location thus significantly affects their use in the future. House No. 23, which is characterized by its large inner hall with a porch, is directly adjacent to the Regional Gallery of Vysočina, which faces the lack of a representative entrance facilities for visitors and insufficient space for a permanent exhibition. In terms of functionality, the house No. 23 is suitable for cultural purposes and so the existing Vysočina Gallery Area merges with it and its main entrance is moved. House No. 22 retains the function of a permanent housing, primarily due to its good layout, but is more up to the standards of Jihlava. The mentioned four houses influence the adjoining accessible courtyard, which is transformed into a new attractive public space. The outcome of the paper is not only an urban and architectural study of two addressed houses and the adjacent courtyard, but also an evaluation of the overall functional change of the site in the future, including other JHD. Primarily, the monofunctional nature is removed from the addressed location, which now finds itself unsuitable for housing, and a new functional characteristic are proposed that support the development of the southern tip of Masaryk Square, but at the same time respect the essence of the housing, which should always be primarily based upon the customized needs. The paper is an overview of the future functional development of this locality and discusses the possibilities of how the city of Jihlava could manage the historical houses within the area and thus significantly affect life in the city.
NEW ON THE „OLD“ – Brno, Bratislavská - Stará Corner
Janíček, Vladan ; Sochor, Jan (referee) ; Františák, Luboš (advisor)
NEW FOR OLD project addresses the corner of two streets of Brno and Bratislava old. According to the assignment, there should be designed multi-functional building with 60 percent of the residential areas and 40 percent of other functions. In my case, it is only in residential and commercial functions. The house has two floors garage, two floors of commercial stalls and up above them in the form of small solitary building performs the function of housing. Materials of construction are mutually traced from protruding mass at the flush passage to a detached house on the northern border. The whole building is to some extent a paraphrase of the concept of yin-yang.
5-Minutes Neighbourhood
Šrubařová, Jana ; Bukolský, Martin (referee) ; Menšíková, Naděžda (advisor)
The territory is located in the city of Brno, district Trnitá on the embankment of the river Svitava. The subject of the diploma thesis is the architectural study of the design of the urban spatial structure with intensive use of city urban area, designed in pre-diploma project, which preceded diploma thesis. The design will allow mixing of greater amount of different functions on a relatively small built-up area, which will reduce the requirements on transport and provide the inhabitant with various forms of housing, services and employment. The shape of object's ground plan is based on area, which is connected from three sides to access roads. The mass and spatial solution respects the surrounding buildings and uses existing bike trails and sidewalks in the southeastern part of the area. The basic matter of object is divided by three axes passing through the building, into three blocks linked by common internal block. This creates a square with a tree-lined atrium with seating under the trees. The shape of these three blocks is further formed by removing of the mass, which results into forming of atriums, terraces and balconies, which brings natural light into the interior while allowing illumination of the patio and surrounding buildings within the territory. This spatial structure is horizontally divided by functions. Designed here are underground public garages, passages with shops, services, administration / commerce and housing. Despite the diversity of functions, for the facade was chosen a unified character of white horizontal lines contrasting with the dark gray lines of windows and facade cladding.
NEW ON THE „OLD“ – Brno, Bratislavská - Stará Corner
Feňo, Radomír ; Mutina, Petr (referee) ; Jura, Pavel (advisor)
The designed site is situated in cadastral area of Brno Zábrdovice. The land is located in an opened housing estate with two plain gables and the parcel now serves as a parking site. A primary school and a grammar school is located nearby. Opposite the parcel there is a children’s theatre called Radost. In Zábrdovice there is a lack of public sites and municipal parterre. Majority of buildings has residential function and shops, administrative offices and services are missing. The building resolves the situation by adding street line and closing the block with broke through corner, which creates a space for a garden in the inner area and for a square in front of the theatre. The building in Stará street is designed in harmony with the original style of the street. Profile of the street reflects the height of the ledges on the opposite side’s buildings. To the square, contrarily, the two large building are directed and together with the theatre they create quite a lot of space. In the inner area a long and low courtyard balcony house is situated. The edifice creates three areas each with different level of privacy and also with different function. A public building with offices, ateliers and a café, while majority of the flats are oriented to the inner area and home for elderly people to a peaceful garden.
The GAP in Brno
Hobzová, Petra ; Jourová, Drahoslava (referee) ; Palaščák, Michal (advisor)
The subject of my bachelor's thesis is the design of a multifunctional building in a selected gap in the center of Brno in Jezuitská Street. The main idea was to create a multifunctional house that will be suitably designed into a cramped and deep gap and will combine several functional units. It is primarily civic amenities with services, administrative functions and mostly student housing. On the ground floor there is a shop and a cafe. In my work I deal with the material connection to the surrounding buildings of the place and I respect it. In the cramped narrow gap, which has a given area, it was necessary to divide the building plot into 2 masses due to sufficient sun exposure of all spaces. The main mass, which closes the street line on Jezuitská Street and the second, which closes the gap in the park of Danuše Muzikářová. In the central part there is a smaller courtyard with vertical communication with a singlearm staircase and a barrier-free solution - an elevator. The horizontal communication consists of balconies, which connect the two materials on each floor and from them there are accesses to individual apartments and offices. In the proposed multifunctional building, there is a passage from Jezuitská Street through the courtyard with greenery to Danuše Muzikářová Park on the ground floor.
