Coal-fired power plants: cheap electricity vs. clean environment
Krydl, Ondřej ; Loužek, Marek (advisor) ; Kozák, Jan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the importance of coal-fired power plants on the market of electric energy, with emphasis on aspects that fundamentally affect their production. Coal-fired power plants belongs nowadays among socially unpopular source of electricity. In recent decades intensively growing interest groups that support state intervention and regulation of the energy sector. This is essentially a massive promotion of renewable energy sources at the expense of fossil fuel plants. Analysis of individual power sources shows that despite the current restrictive measures imposed on power plants burning fossil fuels, and especially coal-fired power plants, electricity produced from coal resources is still competitive, despite some drawbacks has many positive qualities. Coal-fired power plants produce higher amounts of greenhouse gases and other pollutants than other types of power plants. On the other hand, they are able to provide a stable supply of electricity to transmission network, and thus partially offset the high volatility of electricity supply from renewable energy sources. The price of electricity from coal-fired power plants could be considered as relatively low in comparison with other energy sources. The analysis shows that in terms of practical economic policy is not economically justified to reduce the proportion of coal-fired power plants in the total production of electricity.
Modern Technologies for Family House Heating
Vidlák, David ; Brázdil, Marian (referee) ; Lisý, Martin (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor´s thesis is to outline the basic knowledge of modern heating methods of family houses. The first part of this thesis describes the history of heating and gives a basic information about heating systems. The second part is dealing with the most frequently used heating systems. The last part of the thesis evaluates the way of heating a particular family house and suggests the possibility of using different heating methods.
Solid fuels boilers
Sitek, Tomáš ; Kracík, Petr (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on solid fuel heating of a detached house. The first section describes most common solid fuels, their composition, characteristics and combustion principle. Following section is about solid fuels boilers with their operation description and most common designs and types. In the end economic and user aspects of four selected boilers are described, such as acquisition and operation costs, operation comfort etc. The resulting graph of total costs over fifteen years can be used for general comparison of selected boilers.
Actual State and Potential of Renewable Sources Utilization in the EU
Kubín, David ; Radil, Lukáš (referee) ; Macháček, Jan (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis named Actual State and potential of renewable sources utilization in the EU offers a detailed summary of the current and future utilization of renewable resources in each member state of the European Union. The opening chapters briefly introduce the term renewable resources and the legislation relating to this issue. The following chapter is devoted to a detailed background research of actual renewable energy utilization in all twenty seven member states of the European Union. The countries are ranked by their dates of accession to the Union in ascending order, in each chapter alphabetically. All information and data are obtained from reliable sources such as annual energy reports of ministries or institutions which are concerned with energy issues. This chapter contains a great amount of charts and tables taken from annual reports and which are revised for the needs of this thesis. The chapter named Potential of renewable energy utilization in the EU offers an insight into the assumed future utilization of renewable resources up to the year 2020. This chapter draws from so-called National renewable energy action plans (NREAP) in which each member state presents its plan leading to higher renewable sources utilization in the near future. The reader is therefore able to familiarize with plans concerning renewable sources in each member state. The chapter named Complex evaluation familiarizes with some pros and cons concerning renewable sources and their utilization. Further the author presents his point of view on renewable sources and some recommendation leading to a better integration of renewable sources into energetics.
Boilers for house heating
Grepl, Martin ; Štelcl, Otakar (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of small boilers for solid, liquid and gas fuels for heating houses. Its introductory part describes types of fuels, their basic classification, characteristics, and environmental impact during combustion. Various types of boilers suitable for domestic heating are described in its second part. It shows classification according to the type of combustion fuel, advantages/ disadvantages, and also basic parameters of these boilers. The last part of this thesis focuses on calculation of selected boilers in terms of their parameters and cost.
