Změny krajinného krytu na území Národního parku Podyjí
PĚNKA, Tomáš
In this diploma thesis, I studied land use and land cover changes in the territory of Podyjí National Park during a period of almost 80 years. The background data were obtained from black-and-white aerial pictures from 1952, 1974 and 1989 further supplemented by two vectorized layers from 1938 and 2014. The main trends in the studied areas were a substantial growth of forest areas, decrease of permanent grasslands, and the agricultural areas. Analyses using landscape metrics showed that closed forest cover increased from 66% to 75% between 1952, 1974 and 1989. Moreover, during the same time period the area of open woodlands decreased by 3% (from 10% to 7%). The obtained results also indicated the gradual homogenization of the landscape, with changes in forest management having the greatest impact. Such trend might be dangerous especially for rare species associated with open forest habitats.

Vnoučková, Kateřina ; Konrád, Ota (advisor) ; Olšáková, Doubravka (referee) ; Šimková, Pavla (referee)
The dissertation deals with cross-border contacts and transfers between South Moravia and Lower Austria in the field of environment. The thesis traces this topic from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. During this time, the global de-escalation of tensions between East and West enabled the development of cross-border contacts already in the era of the closed border and subsequently after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Thus, the thesis draws on the transnational history of late socialism and the transition period and extends this research to include a regional perspective. The aim of the thesis is to show which role the environment played in cross-border contacts between the examined border regions. The thesis follows this aim in three levels of research. Firstly, it addresses the question of whether 1989 was a significant turning point in cross-border contacts, or whether there was continuity between developments in the 1980s and 1990s. Secondly, it examines the relationship between central and local developments and how they affect each other. Thirdly, the thesis focuses on cross-border transfers and the question to what extent asymmetry and different living standards discouraged or created opportunities for these transfers. The thesis answers these research questions in three thematic chapters - the...

Action plans and protection of ground squirrels
Novotná, Kristýna ; Matějů, Jan (advisor) ; Reif, Jiří (referee)
Unfortunately, the number of endangered species is still increasing, in most cases due to the human activities. The main aim of the protection of species is to provide conditions for survival of endangered species in nature. However, for some species the common instruments of protection (such as protection of habitat) are not sufficient and it is necessary to use some special methods. For these species are organized so-called action plans. Among such species belongs the European Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus citellus). We can find also other endangered species within ground squirrels from the tribe Marmotini Pocock, 1923 as well. These species need the special protection methods, like captive breeding, repatriation and translocation of individuals or special management of the habitat. In this work are processed data about protection of genera Cynomys, Marmota and Spermophilus, especially White-tailed Prairie Dog (C. leucurus), Utah Prairie Dog (C. parvidens), Alpine Marmot (M. marmota), Vancouver Island Marmot (M. vancouverensis), Idaho Ground Squirrel (S. brunneus), European Ground Squirrel (S. citellus), Franklin's Ground Squirrel (S. franklinii), Speckled Ground Squirrel (S. suslicus) and Washington ground squirrel (S. washingtoni). Actual status and cause of endangerment are given for each...
