Mlnářík, Vojtěch ; Květoň, Viktor (advisor) ; Ježek, Jiří (referee)
This thesis contributes to the currently frequent topic of economic geography and explains the processes for the creation of new companies in the Pilsen and Zlín regions between years 2009-2011. The choice of these two regions reflects their similar structural characteristics within the firm sector and their different horizontal position. The aim of this work is to find out through which processes in the monitored regions new companies are being created within the manufacturing industry and to which extent these processes affect the subsequent economic performance of companies during the first five years of existence. For this purpose, a typology of the creation of new companies based on their initial characteristics was designed and processed. These initial characteristics reflect both the regional dimension in terms of the origin of the key resources for the creation of a new company relative to the hosting region and the consequent different competencies and possibilities of newly created companies. Despite the initial assumptions, the results showed that the compared regions are practically the same within this issue. In both regions, new companies are mostly created through internal processes (branching of activities from existing regional base), followed by a creation without a link to the...

Jirman, Martin ; Blažek, Jiří (advisor) ; Horák, Petr (referee)
The thesis deals with the analysis of Nachod and Tachov regions' economic structure. The aim of this work is to discover the range and character of differences between these regional economic structures within a national innovation system. Regions showing approximately similar vertical geographic position were chosen for the analysis deliberately, however they differ in various actualities, such as, for instance, their position in terms of west-east gradient, or more precisely horizontal geographic position. Based on the analysis of the relationship between the suppliers and consumers, manufacturing programmes, and not least ownership structures, the basic typology of the economic subjects from the manufacturing industry was executed. The results of this analysis point out significant dependence of the Tachov region on the activities of foreign investors and underdeveloped entrepreneurial environment. Nachod region reports, in the interregional comparison, better results in assessing the economic structure and features clearly more endogenous regional development than Tachov region. Key words: global production network, regional innovation system, manufacturing industry, economic structure

We also focues on estimation of panel data by classical approaches (least squares, fixed effects, GMM) and bzy robust techniques. The first part of dissertation focuses on analyzing determinants of FDI in Czech manufacturing industry. The aim is to estimate a model where the stock of FDI is expressed as a function of several economic factors (K/L, profit per worker, R&D, Balassa index and others). We estimate these models by OLS, fixed effects and GMM. With regard to ambiguous results we used least trimmed squares as a diagnostic tool for detection of outliers. Elimination of two polluting industries out of the data set brings certain improvement in significance of some factors. The second part of dissertation we focus on an estimation of models of employment and net production in 28 European countries for small businesses as a function of economic and institutional variables by special technique of estimation.
