Analysis of the Price Convergence of CR towards EU
Havrlant, David ; Pánková, Václava (advisor) ; Mandel, Martin (referee) ; Singer, Miroslav (referee)
The price level convergence of the transition economies towards the reference economies is linked to the relative price of nontradables, which is explained by the total factor productivity differentials in tradable and nontradable sector. Basic concept is offered by the Balassa Samuelson model and its modifications. Testable equations are derived from these models, and the panel data approach is applied for their estimation. The results indicate faster growth of the relative price of nontradables in transition economies as succession of higher growth rate of the total factor productivity in tradable sector. Hence estimated models confirm the price level convergence of transition economies towards the reference economies. The analyses of price dynamics of the complementary field, i. e. of the tradables, follows, and the basic concept is represented by the rational bubble hypothesis. The stress is putted on the impact of the word prices on the price levels of the Czech Republic. After a cointegration analysis of the time series is carried out, the influence of the word prices of tradable commodities is estimated within a vector error correction model and regression analysis. This cost factors analysis is afterwards related to the export dynamics of the Czech Republic, and models suitable for quantitative analysis of export dynamics as well as its prediction based on vector error correction model and regression analysis are evaluated. Their forecasting ability is assessed within a simulation of ex-post forecasts and a root mean squared error. The aim is to consider the relationship between the price levels and the export dynamics, for the relation of both variables evaluated within the Granger causality seems to be less straightforward then the standard export equations suggest, and the estimated equations confirm significant influence of the export dynamics on the price level.
The Impact of Foreign Investment on the Economic Development of Selected Countries in the CEE Region
Polívka, Martin ; Černá, Iveta (advisor) ; Kalínská, Emílie (referee)
The thesis examines the impact of incoming foreign direct investment on the economy of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland between 1993 and 2007 through the prism of three macroeconomic indicators: the gross domestic product, the rate of unemployment and exports. The thesis is structured into four chapters. In the first chapter, the term FDI is defined and categorized. The second chapter describes thoroughly direct and indirect impacts of FDI on the GDP, the rate of unemployment and exports of the host economy. The third chapter offers an analysis of FDI flowing into the Central Eastern European region and the four countries in question after 1989. A special emphasis is put on economic policy towards FDI, the sectors and regions which attracted it the most. The fourth chapter examines the impact of FDI on the above-mentioned three macroeconomic indicators in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland using a simple linear regression. The chapter closes with a few thoughts on the impacts of FDI in the long-run, especially taking into account the sectors foreign investors preferred the most in CEE.

Salíni, Linda ; Plchová, Božena (advisor) ; Nigrinová, Lenka (referee)
This thesis provides an overview of the importance of exports for the Czech economy and the main instruments used for support of exports by state and private institutions. It also presents new export activities of a non-state institution - International Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic (ICC Czech Republic), which is the general public not sufficiently aware of. The work contains opinions and positions of entities being directly affected by state export promotion in the Czech Republic - particularly small and medium enterprises, large exporters, and commercial banks - and also their specific requirements for the content of state export strategy. Their opinions are derived from various surveys and analysis and based on the information obtained from ICC Czech Republic. To create high-quality export strategy, it is necessary for the Ministry of Industry and Trade to cooperate with all relevant subjects such as EGAP, Czech Export Bank, Czech Chamber of Commerce, ICC Czech Republic, but especially with the business community. The strategy also needs to include the consolidation of state export promotion services, the allocation of sufficient funds for the Czech Export Bank and EGAP, the involvement of commercial banks in foreign trade finance and enhancement of international competitiveness of Czech exports. Thus can only be increased its contribution to individual subjects of foreign trade and the State itself.

Innovation policy as the support of the Italian´s export
Procházka, Ondřej ; Gullová, Soňa (advisor) ; Klosová, Anna (referee)
The problem of the Italian economy of last years is the low economic growth and international competitiveness crisis of it's productive system. In already so belated europian train is the Italian economy among the lasts wagons. The main aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze Italian innovation policy and it's impact upon export. First chapter describes the term "innovation" and introduces the innovation policy in general. The second chapter analyzes contemporary economic characteristic of Italy in order to understand further issues, especially the development of essential macroeconomics indicators, the structure of Italian economy, the typology of firms and the anticrisis measures with the prediction of the further economic development. Third charter chapter analyzes contemporary main features of the Italian innovation policy: expenditures on reconstruction and development much like on education, describes human and risk capital, patents, scientific publications and technological balance of payments. It focuses also on the impact of the financial crisis upon the innovation activity, on the role of the government in the innovation policy, on it's evaluation with other europian countries and on the upcoming innovation strategies. The last fourth chapter concentrates on the analyze of influence of the innovation policy on the Italian's export. It focuses on the main govermental institutions concerned with export much like on the contemporary development of the Italian's commodity and territorial structure of export. The diploma thesis points out that Italy, as one of the moderate innovators, is not doing enough to become an innovation oriented economy. However Italian innovation policy is the most important instrument to reach this long term goal. Nevertheless Italy has maintained many reforms in its institutional basis or education system, there are still many shortcomings e.g. there is a strong need of evaluation of some old programs and further strengthening of innovation activity of small and medium sized enterprises, the same way as the increase of the government expenditures on all sectors of the innovation policy. The diploma thesis shows clearly that the innovation policy is one of the most important topics not only for Italy, but also for the rest of the world.
