Analysis of residual stresses in arterial wall
Novák, Kamil ; Fuis, Vladimír (referee) ; Burša, Jiří (advisor)
This thesis deals with computational modeling of the influence of residual stresses in idealized geometry of blood vessels and subsequent application of acquired knowledge to abdominal aortic aneurysm. In the terms of quality of the computational model, we reduced the uncertainties that are included in the computational model without considering the influence of residual stresses. The basic assumption of homogenization significant peaks of the stress between inner and outer vessel wall was met for each level of the computational model Methods that have been used are: deformation method (opening angle method), inverse mechanics of large deformations, fictitious temperature – for linear elastic material and hyperelastic material defined by the constitutive model. Numerical verification was carried out using program ANSYS.
Influence of residual stress on pressure vessel part fatigue life
Boleloucký, Václav ; Vincour, Dušan (referee) ; Létal, Tomáš (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis deals with the impact of a residual stress, caused by an applied cyclic pressure, on fatigue life of a pressure vessel part (flat end–cylinder connection). Bachelor’s thesis includes the design of the pressure vessel according to CSN EN 13 445 regulations, analytical solution in Maple software, from which stresses and deformations are determined. Then the results of the analytical approach are firstly verified by a FEM modelling in ANSYS Workbench software and secondly compared to each other in graphs and discussed. From the values of stresses in FEM, analysis fatigue life expectations are calculated with the respect to CSN EN 13 445 regulations, for two cases. First one, where a pressure test is applied and second one, where the pressure test is not applied before the pressure vessel is put into service. In the conlusion the obtained results are discussed.
Reliability Analysis of Steel Columns with Encased Web in High Strength Concrete under Compression
Puklický, Libor ; Krejsa,, Martin (referee) ; Melcher, Jindřich (referee) ; Kala, Zdeněk (advisor)
The presented paper deals with a theoretical analysis of the ultimate limit state. The results of experimental research carried out at the Institute of Metal and Timber Structures headed by Assoc. Prof. Karmazinová and Professor Melcher were applied. The geometrically and materially nonlinear solution based on the Timošenko’s solution is verified by the FEM model in the computer programme system ANSYS. The random influence of initial imperfections is taken into consideration. The FEM model also includes the influence of residual stress. In the parametric study, the influence of residual stress on the cross-section plastification is researched into, its influence on the load carrying capacity limit is, together with the influence of other imperfections, the subject of the stochastic analysis, applying the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS). Further on, the study proves a direct effect of the concrete part of the cross-section (combination of materials steel-concrete) on the decrease of load carrying capacity limit of the beam caused by influence of the residual stress of steel. With regard to the importance of time dependent phenomena of the concrete creep for the load carrying capacity, the studies given in the Ph.D. thesis are oriented in this respect. The parametric studies of the influence of the concrete creep having applied the Standard Eurocode 2 provide both a comparison of load carrying capacity limits when using common and high-strength concrete types, and also the variability of load carrying capacities. It follows from the comparison of the statistical analysis outputs according to the design reliability conditions of the Standard EN1990 and of the approach of Eurocode 4 that the Eurocode 4 can be recommended for dimensioning of this member type. According to the studies which we carried out, the design in compliance with Eurocode 4 can be evaluated as the reliable one. A larger set of experimental data is necessary to determine the economy.
Description of the residual stresses in polymer pipes
Poduška, Jan ; Majer, Zdeněk (referee) ; Hutař, Pavel (advisor)
This thesis is dealing with the issue of residual stress present in the wall of a polymer pipe and the influence on its lifetime. Experimental data obtained by the ring slitting method are evaluated and the tangential residual stress in the wall of polypropylene pipe is determined. The evaluation is carried out using a new methodology based on the curved beam theory. The method is verified using numerical simulation. 3D numerical model is used to verify the behavior of the pipe, when there are both tangential and axial residual stresses present in the pipe wall, because the presence of axial stress causes a rise in the magnitude of tangential residual stress. A correction of the tangential stress values corresponding to the pipe length is then proposed. It is shown, that the distribution of the tangential residual stress does not depend significantly on the dimensions or ma-terial of the extruded pipe and a general equation is proposed to describe the distribution. This general distribution is then involved in the calculations of the pipe lifetime that are carried out using a method based on the linear elastic fracture mechanics. A significantly lower lifetimes are obtained when taking the residual stress into account.
Sensitivity analysis of stability problems of steel structures
Valeš, Jan ; Vičan,, Josef (referee) ; Kučerová,, Anna (referee) ; Melcher, Jindřich (referee) ; Kala, Zdeněk (advisor)
The doctoral thesis is focused on evaluation of global sensitivity analysis of load-carrying capacity of steel hot-rolled beams. These beams are subjected to lateral-torsional buckling, weak axis buckling and strong axis buckling. Very comprehensive computational models which were both geometrically and materially nonlinear were created in Ansys software using solid finite elements to calculate the load-carrying capacity. The computational models allowed modelling of random initial imperfections such as initial curvature, deviations of cross-section dimensions and steel properties. Sensitivity analysis quantified their influence on the load-carrying capacity. Simulation runs of random imperfections were generated using the Latin Hypercube Sampling method. Since the evaluation of sensitivity analysis of load-carrying capacity of all finite element models would cost an extreme amount of computer time, the thesis aimed at developing a meta-model (also known as surrogate model) based on approximation of FEM model. The approximation polynomial then facilitated the evaluation of sensitivity indices using a high number of simulation runs. At the end, the relationships between the slenderness and the first and second-order sensitivity indices are plotted in graphs. Those random input imperfections that influence the variability of load-carrying capacity the most are pointed out.

This research describes the optimization of the stress-relieving of high-strength stabilizer bars. The influence of process parameters on tensile strength, yield strength, residual stresses and stress corrosion cracking is investigated. This project describes production processes for stabilizer bars. Different techniques of the measurement of residual stresses are presented.
Influence of production stresses on the safety of cylindric pressure vessels
Krakovský, Andrej ; Profant, Tomáš (referee) ; Burša, Jiří (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with influence of production stresses on the safety of cylindrical pressure vessels. Pressure vessels are made by sheet rolling. In this process the yield strength is exceeded, which leads to creating residual stresses. These stresses can influence final safety of vessels, if any heat treating isn’t done. In this thesis residual stresses are analytically calculated for cylindrical pressure vessel of wagon tank and for theoretical thick-walled vessel. After that safety with and without residual stresses are compared. The last part of this thesis describes method of removing these stresses.
