Claude Debussy: Piano Works and its Utility in Primary and Secondary Levels of Art Education
Panchartková, Petra ; Kopecká, Věra (advisor) ; Tichá, Libuše (referee)
This work deals with the life and work of French Impressionist composer called Claude Achille Debussy and its utility in primary and secondary levels of art education. The first part focusses on the life and work of the composer and gives more details about his piano work. The second part, using the surveys and interviews of the teachers of elementary music schools, examines the use of Claude Debussy's work and Impressionism in teaching at elementary music schools and Conservatories. We can also find there the section with fully cited interviews with an elementary music school teacher who uses Claude Debussy and Impressionism works in her lessons and with a pupil who, under her direction, interpretes a compositon of Claude Debussy. There are eighty examples of the musical compositions by Claude Debussy attached and as well as the recording of an elementary music school pupil interpreting Debussy's Arabesque. KEY WORDS Claude Debussy, piano, piano composition, interpretation, utility in teaching, elementary music school, the Conservatory.
Analysis of Time-Varying Spectrum of Pianos
Smělý, Pavel ; Rajmic, Pavel (referee) ; Jirásek, Ondřej (advisor)
This work focuses on an analysis of a time-varying spectrum of pianos. The beginning of the work deals with the gradual evolution of the piano, aiming at timbre and design, and it analyzes in detail its individual parts and their influence on the sound spectrum. The theoretical part also concentrates on the issue of harmonic analysis in both the musical conception of timber and the usage of mathematical signal processing methods that make this analysis possible. Another part deals with practical tasks of the work such as a description of an application and functions created in the interface of MATLAB for exploring the time-varying spectrum of tones, description of the method and procedure of the measuring of three concert grand pianos. The work also analyzes, by supporting it with practical examples and by comparing the measured pianos, the most important acoustic phenomena that originate from the production of tones in the instrument; it describes the timber of individual instruments, and it gives recommendations.
Audio synthesizer in FPGA chip
Tomko, Jakub ; Pristach, Marián (referee) ; Bohrn, Marek (advisor)
This thesis analyses methods of sound synthesis. Advantages and disadvantages of application of individual methods in music synthetizers are evaluated. Based on piano sound analysis, the suitable method for synthesizer's design is chosen. Synthesizer has been implemented in FPGA of Spartan-3 Development Board.
Conversion of Piano Recording from WAV to MIDI
Bednařík, Jan ; Černocký, Jan (referee) ; Szőke, Igor (advisor)
The aim of the thesis is to propose a system capable of automatic conversion of polyphonic piano recordings from the audio format WAV to MIDI. The thesis describes problems related to single tone recognition in music recordings and proposes a solution based on a probabilistic model that uses the Probabilistic Latent Component Analysis method. Recordings of isolated digital piano tones were used to train the system. The proposed system was tested on classical recordings of the Classical Piano MIDI database and on recordings of a Korg SP-250 piano and evaluated using a variety of metrics. The conclusion part contains the results of recognition success rate and their comparison with other existing systems.
Design of Digital Piano
Sikora, Halina ; Sládek, Josef (advisor)
This master’s thesis deals with the design of a digital piano. This increasingly popular musical instrument offers possibilities not available in an acoustic piano (outputting sound into headphones, utilizing sample libraries, recording, use of sheet music in digital form and more). From technical standpoint, it attempts to closely mimic the qualities of traditional instruments, both in its tactile feedback and sound quality. The aim of this work was to design a solution which would starkly differentiate from the very conservative classical design without being overly extravagant. The main focus is therefore on aspects of visual appearance, with emphasis on ergonomics, and an outline of the technical solution.

Musical and pianistic contribution of the sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti
Vrtiška, Karel ; KASÍK, Martin (advisor) ; LEICHNER, Emil (referee)
The goal of the work is to amplify the volume of respectable academic work dedicated to the pieces and life of Domenico Scarlatti which is not, even nowadays, much abundant in the Czech language. The author's effort was also to help other interpreters of Scarlatti's sonatas, who might be reading this work in the future, to familiarize with pieces of knowledge on the sonatas which has not been widely known and to get valuable and inspirational stimuli that may help them when practising. The work is focused on the form of the sonatas and on solution of technical difficulties, which, considering the period of their origin, are much unprecedented. It were these analyses that help the author elucidate the thematic field that can be also found in the title of the work - musical and pianistic contribution of the sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti.
