Filipová, Tereza ; Vařeka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mikeš, Ondřej (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the connection between incorrectly adjusted nutrition, obesity and the values of glycemia and glycated hemoglobin. Aim: The aim of this thesis is to confirm the effect of nutritional education on diet modification, and thus on weight reduction and body composition adjustment in obese individuals with diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and without diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. Methods: For the purposes of the research were selected clients of Centrum výživy s.r.o. situated in Prague 2 with overweight or obesity. The total research group consisted of 42 probands, 32 women and 10 men. All of them were older than 18 years have BMI above 24,9 kg/m2 . Initially, all probands were subjected to bioelectrical impedance analysis on a Tanita BC-418 MA to analyse body composition and actual body weight. Subsequently, the waist circumference was measured with 150 cm long tape. Laboratory testing was performed on all probands. During the 60-minute long consultation were discussed probands current eating habits and their current healt situation, physical acitivity and prefered foods were obtained using a questionnaire survey. Based on this informations were made nutrition recommendations for each of the probands, which he has to follow for next 6 moths. Once a month were performer...
Utilization of modern technologies in diabetology
Navrátilová, Vendula ; Matoulek, Martin (advisor) ; Vařeka, Tomáš (referee)
Introduction: The main goal of the diabetes mellitus type 1 (DM type 1) therapy is the achievement of the best compensation of this disease. One of the tools to attain this compensation is the correctly carried out self-monitoring, from which can be the right dose of the Insulin derived. To estimate the correct dose of the Insulin is the essential knowledge of the actual dietary records, especially the amount of the carbohydrates. The thorough dietary record is in this case another tool how to significantly improve the compensation of DM type 1. Objective: The main objective of this thesis was the description of the influence of the dietary record for the compensation of DM type 1. As the evaluating parameters were set the value of HbA1c before-and-after the observation and the glycemia variability during the observation. The observation had been provided during one month where in the beginning of the observation all patients took part in the educative stay. Methods: The examined sample included in total 34 persons, but 2 of them were excluded for health reasons. The final examined sample was consist of 32 persons, out of them 18 females and 14 males, which suffer from DM type 1. The average age of these patients was 36,6 years ± 12,6, where the average lasting of DM type 1 was 14,9 years ± 9,9. In...
The comparison of drinking regime of obese and non-obese type 2 diabetics
Görnerová, Lucie ; Vařeka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Škrha, Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on topics of type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity and drinking regime from the point of view of nutritional therapist. Objective of the bachelor thesis: Comparison of drinking regime in obese and non-obese type 2 diabetics. Methodology: The practical part of the bachelor thesis compares the drinking regime of obese and non-obese patients with type 2 diabetes. It monitors the quality and quantity of the proband drinking regime. There were 16 patients with type 2 diabetes approached in Diabetic Outpatient IV. of the VFN's internal clinic. 8 probands completed the research and their results are presented in the bachelor thesis. The participants filled out a form for seven days before and after the training seminar. They wrote down the quantity and type of drunk drinks. Prior to the training seminar, they filled out questionnaire number 1 focused on the patients' awareness about drinking regime in type 2 diabetes. After this seminar, they completed questionnaire number 2 examining the difficulty of monitoring compliance with this drinking regime. Questionnaire no. 2 tried to find out whether probands had thought about their drinking regime when putting it down and how they were motivated to take part in an educational seminar. Research of the ability of retention information from verbal education in nutrition mode and the effect of this education by overweight middle-aged people with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Šilerová, Tereza ; Vařeka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Křížová, Jarmila (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the disease diabetes mellitus. The theoretical part describes the characteristics of this disease. It describes typical symptoms, classification and diagnostics. It also outlines and explains the complications that may occur as a result of the disease and that may be avoided or whose inception and development may at least be delayed. Depending on their type and extent, these complications may significantly reduce quality of life as well as overall life expectancy. It is therefore essential to ensure that patients are properly educated in the right therapy. Education itself is covered in the section of the chapter devoted to treating diabetes mellitus. The practical part of the diploma thesis is devoted to research, focusing on the ability to retain information following verbal nutritional education of patients with diabetes. The aim of the research is to determine the percentage of information that patients gain from education on diet therapy, thus confirming or rebutting the established hypotheses. The research thus serves to determine the effectiveness of education in the care of diabetics. Keywords: diabetes, education, information retention, diet therapy

Patková, Barbora ; Matoulek, Martin (advisor) ; Vařeka, Tomáš (referee)
Introduction: Type 1 diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune disease, which often disrupts normal regime during the life of the patient. During the day there are fluctuations in blood glycaemia levels, so a very important part of therapy is so called self-monitoring, in which the individual is continually monitors his own blood sugar level. Using self-monitoring of blood glycaemia can demonstrably improve diabetes control. With the advent of new technology, such as sensors, insulin pumps and others patients are, in their cooperation, enable to optimize the regime during normal life. Objectives: Monitor glycaemia at patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus in the last trimester of pregnancy and after childbirth. Determine the change in HbA1c during pregnancy and after childbirth, compared to previous years. Identify, describe and evaluate situations and errors of the patient that affect the blood glucose fluctuations and monitor insulin requirments. Furthermore, closely monitor three days before and two days after childbirth, depending on diet and physical activity. Methods: Data were collected using records from sensors in the program CareLink® Personal of company Medtronic, from diet regimen of program Kalorické tabulky and exercise activity from program Evito.cz and informations about HbA1c were...

First, probands diets' were analyzed and dietary changes were recommended. To evaluate the effect of interventions following methods were used for data collection: monitoring changes in eating habits, measurements of body weight, waist circumference and blood pressure and biochemical parameters of glycemic control (blood glucose levels, glycated hemoglobin). Results: Evaluation of results before and after the intervention shows that non-obese patients had lower energy intake and better diets than obese. The effect of nutritional intervention and compliance of framework diet was apparent as 11 respondents showed decreased body weight and waist circumference. Weight loss was on average 1,29 kg and...
