The evolutionof the picture of interpreter in selected international and Czech medias

The thesis focuses on the image of interpreter and interpretation in Czech printed media from 1990 to 2012. It aims to explore how interpreters present themselves in media, how journalists present interpreters and whether that image is accepted or not by the public. The thesis consists of two parts. The theoretical part focuses on methods of media and discourse analysis, definition of interpretation, formation of interpreters and professional associations in the Czech Republic. Empirical part analyses more than 800 articles about interpretation and analyses the discourse of Czech media during the period of twenty years. Analysis showed that the discourse changes constantly and the point of view of interpreters on their profession is different from the discourse created by journalists. Empirical part contains a survey which showed, that public opinion on interpreters is different from observed discourse of the media.
Political party TOP 09 and Karel Schwarzenberg

This diploma thesis focuses on relations between a candidate and a political party and how these relations are influenced by political marketing and media. Political party TOP 09 and its leader Karel Schwarzenberg are studied during the political campaign preceding Czech legislative election in May 2010. The study is based on TOP 09's documents and interviews of Karel Schwarzenberg in Czech media. Theoretical part of this thesis is dedicated to concepts of political marketing, influence of media and models of communication. Content analysis compares themes and ways to speak about them used by the party and by Schwarzenberg. Qualitative analysis asks if the party can make use of Schwrazenberg for its own campaign and how strength and what sort of are relations between TOP 09 and its leader.
The presidency of the Council of the European Union. Comparison of Czech and French presidency.

The presidency of the Council of the European Union is a prestigious institute, who applies administrative, representative and political functions. This thesis should define the Council and its presidency and propose some theoretical hypothesis about the presidency of large and middle-sized countries. The practical comparison use as an example France and Czech republic. These two countries have ensured their presidencies successively recently. The main goal is to point out the measure of influence of political systems, duration of the membership, roles of personalities and above all size of the country.
