Social project case study focused on migrants
Kalinová, Klára ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Mazák, Jaromír (referee)
In this thesis, I am focusing on the integration of Christian refugees who were transported to Jihlava in the Czech Republic thanks to the endowment fund G21. In the theoretical part of my theses, I am dealing with the issues related to migration and integration of refugees in the Czech society and I am focusing, in particular, on the Czech legislation dealing with this subject and on migration politics at the municipal level. Furthermore, I am dealing with particular resources used by the endowment fund 21 to integrate refugees into society. In the second part of my thesis, I included interview with the organizers of this project, reasons why the above mentioned refugees are provided with help and lastly real-life accounts related to the adaptation of refugees in Jihlava. The goal of this thesis is therefore to offer a comprehensive view of the matter of integration of refugees in a smaller city such as Jihlava and raise awareness of potential issues related to it and to find out what specifically would have to be done in another way so that the integration process is successful in this case.

Šimůnková, Petra ; Sládek, Jan (advisor) ; Mazák, Jaromír (referee)
The goal of this bachelor thesis is to show, how does the tourism industry affects social and culture aspects of local communities and how it affects life at those places in general. For analysis, I have chosen three destinations - Venice, Barcelona and Iceland. Venice is an exemplary case which shows us how much can sociocultural problems escalate. In a case of Barcelona and Iceland we can find different approaches in dealing with this phenomenon and also ways how do these problems emerge. Despite culture differences of those places, we can find some similar patterns - for example mobilization and activation of local civil society. The second part of the thesis is based on results of the survey, which reveals opinions on mass tourism in Prague city centre. Key words: tourism, mass tourism, touristification, authenticity, travel, sociocultural problems, Venice, Barcelona, Iceland, Prague.
Carnism as an invisible ideology: We do (not) have a choice.
Dupláková, Alexandra ; Vandrovcová, Tereza (advisor) ; Mazák, Jaromír (referee)
This thesis deals with the concept of carnism. Carnism is an invisible ideology that allows people to eat only some animals that are artificially presented to them as edible (the remaining are not edible), and that helps them overcome the unpleasant feelings caused by the consumption of these animals in order to secure its place in society. Author of this paper first examines the historical and socio-cultural context of evolution of the perception of meat in society and reveals predominantly cultural and religious influences on the clasification of animals as edible and non-edible. In the next chapter she explains character of carnism, of which main features are universality, use of violence and invisibility. Author finds that by using these and other defensive mechanisms, carnism, as a dominant ideology, replaces values with its own. Finally, author addresses the risks that carnism may cause and analyzes solutions that could improve the situation in the society. Key words: carnism, meat, edible and non-edible animals, cognitive disonance, defense mechanisms, ideology, veganism, society
Attitudes of Czech public towards smoking regulations
Pavliš, Vít ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Mazák, Jaromír (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to analyze the attitudes of Czechs towards the justifications of smoking regulations in general and towards the specific smoking ban in restaurants. General attitudes were examined through a questionnaire survey based on liberalist theoretical concepts of J. S. Mill, R. E. Goodin and T. M. Pope. This created the framework for a more thorough interpretation of the attitudes towards the smoking ban in restaurants, effectove since the end of May, 2017. The results can help us understand the limits of the conflict between personal freedom and public health policies as well as help us describe public opinion not only on the existing ban but also on potential further regulations. Smoking restrictions can be justified in the attitudes of Czechs by the general understanding of the harm principle. Consent on personal freedom limitation increases if smoking causes harm to someone else. Medical findings point to the loss of autonomy of smokers caused by the addiction. However, Czechs tend to rather disagree. Disagreement with smoking restrictions also relies on rejecting the restriction of personal freedom to smoke or not to smoke as well as the freedom of enterprise. Therefore, the main finding is that there is a need for a comprehensive understanding of attitudes towards...

Comparison of Juvenile Delinquency in the Czech Republic and Germany
Mazák, Jaromír ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Buriánek, Jiří (referee)
This Master thesis explores delinquency of juvenile Czechs and Germans from seventh to ninth grade based on quantitative data. The data comes from an International Self-Report Delinquency study (ISRD-2), which is anchored primarily in the Social control theory (Hirschi, 1969/2002) and the General theory of crime (Gottfredson, Hirschi, 1990). Therefore, in the first section, attention is paid to these and other selected criminological theories; the other theories are mainly the strain theories and the cultural deviance theories. In the second section, the thesis deals briefly with the socio- cultural differences and similarities between the Czech Republic and Germany. The core of the thesis is the third, analytical section, which presents the findings of statistical analysis. A conclusion is reached that the theories studied are by far less contradictory than what the authors of the social control theory and the general theory of crime claimed them to be. It rather seems that the individual theories are complementary and often lead to the same predictions. Hypotheses are confirmed that some characteristics of the pupils` relation to their school are related to delinquency: Pupils who like going to school are somewhat less delinquent than pupils who do not. Pupils who play truant are substantially...
