Colour Grading on the Apple Macintosh platform

This thesis deals with principles and practices of digital colour grading of cinematic images on the Apple Macintosh platform in Final Cut Pro and Color. It attempts to include all important aspects of the digital image that have to be known ahead of it's colour grading. The paper describes the correct working environment setup given by various technical standards, as well as with regard to human visual perception. It introduces tonal and colour correction tools such as lift, gamma, gain, masks etc., and explains their application. Further on, it practically explains the procedures of primary and secondary colour correction. Finally it turns attention to a specific method of colour grading in Final Cut Pro developed by cinematographer Marek Jícha AČK used by him to teach Colour Grading at FAMU, as well as in his professional life.

Modern technologies in today's film production

This thesis is trying to equip the reader - producer with broad enough technological knowledge and overview for responsible choice of technology for every part of the audiovisual production process. The first section describes principles of individual technologies emphasizing their potential same as the restrictions. It starts at capturing, continues with compression and data storage and ends up with display technologies. Next section describes individual steps of the production process showing possibilities and influence of modern technologies. Stress is made on today's available choices in relation to the needs of the job respecting the budget boundaries. Postproduction technologies section presents main manufacturers and products available today in the main postproduction houses. Final section describes the digitalization of the traditional movie distribution - cinemas.
