The one of them was the intention to examinate the possibility of destruction by the fire, which is indicated in pope list as well as the susceptibility measures of construction parts originated from this building, later on used on the actual church building. In dependence on the older construction and archaeological point of views the possibility of pre-allocated habitation on the place of current town was newly revised in the work. The part of the...

Studeník, Jan ; Scholz, Stefan (advisor) ; Kuthan, Jiří (referee)
Name of thesis Convent Rosa Coeli - the eldest noble foundation in Moravia This interdisciplinary thesis is focused on Rosa Coeli, the Gothic ruin, located in Dolni Kounice near by Brno. It is the oldest female Premonstratensian monastery in Moravia, which is at the same time example of the oldest noble foundation which is dated back to 1181. The thesis is based on a solid Heuristic analysis of the various written sources, which are additionally confronted with the various scientific disciplines. The first part condenses an overview of current research developments which includes inventory of various sources. It is followed by a architectonic description of the monastery and by the hypotheses about its development. It is continued by analysis of three (previously) unreleased documents, which provide particular insight into the development and construction of the monastery. The very fundamental source is the Pope Boniface's document which was issued in 1390. It states that the construction of the monastery had to happen after the year 1390 so it do es not coincide with the analysis of some architectural fragments -this conclusion is still open. The second part is based on a critical genealogical analysis of the monastery supporters, the House of Pulín. It corrects some wrong conclusion of the earlier...

Vácha, Jiří ; Scholz, Stefan (advisor) ; Kuthan, Jiří (referee)
I. Název bakalářské práce: Foundation and building history of St. Nicholas Church in the period of top and late Middle Ages and early modern period in the town České Budějovice1 II. Anotace: In my work I deal with not only the oldest period of building of St. Nicholas Church in the town České Budějovice in the 13-th and 14-th century, but I include new information into regional and church- administrative context. According new connections from literature written and non-written sources and new information I devide the building history into 3 periods connected with economical power and policy of town and reformatory transformation of the Church. The first period defines years 1265-1279, i.e. beginning of building the Church and date of it's interruption of money shortage. Maybe before 1297 was consecrated not finished. The second period defines years 1297-1335 and during this period was building of the Church. Last period is after 1335. And since that we have big source fund showing us Church area, altar beneficious and stay of clergy. We can see, that these historical periods are connected with economical and political power, which after 1265 looked for it's home. In the next part of my work I deal with foundation of town rectory, which was consecutive created besides much older, non-town rectory. The...
Sculpture in Vienna of 3th quart of the 14th century in the Middle-European context
Srovnal, Filip ; Ottová, Michaela (advisor) ; Kuthan, Jiří (referee)
The thesis discusses the most importants works of sculpture in Vienna in the 3rd quarter of the 14th century, sculpture of the "Herzogswerkstatt" in the St. Stephan's cathedral, whose commission and conception is related with the Austrian dukes Rudolf IV. (1358-1365) and Albrecht III. (1349-1395). It concerns the sculpture of the so called "Fürstenportale", two gisants on the Cenotaf of Rudolf IV. and three sovereign couples in the exterior of the church. A crucial section of the thesis is the analysis of Duke's portals. Beside questions concerning original localisation, iconography and function of the portals, the aim is to point out the genesis of the style. The last two chapters deal with Rudolf's cenotaf and sovereign couples. In contrary to recents theses of the scolars Schmidt and Schwarz I find the stylistic origins of Vienna's sculpture in the Middle-European art - the most important influence constitutes parlerian sculpture of South Germany and Prague. The main part of this group was finished during Albrecht III. reign.
The Church of St Mauritius
Bartová, Veronika ; Kuthan, Jiří (advisor) ; Homolka, Jaromír (referee)
1 SUMMARY Church of St Mauritius The Bachelor's thesis on the Church of St Mauritius pursues the history of the Sušice region and the associated reign of the Counts of Bogen, the medieval communications in South-West Bohemia, history of the village of Mouřenec, description, architectonic and historical study of the Church of St Mauritius, as well as ground-plan disposition analogies to the church of St Mauritius in Bavaria and Upper Austria. The Counts of Bogen significantly influenced the history of the Czech Kingdom and mainly the history of the Sušice region. This noble family was close-knit with the Premyslide dynasty, both by marriages and assistance in armed conflicts. During their rule until their die- out in 1242, the Counts of Bogen built up a considerable territory that became one of the most important basis for the territory ruled by the Wittelsbachs. We can learn more about the Šumava paths since the 11th century, from where origin the first verified records. According to these written records, the oldest paths across the Šumava Mountains are the St Vintíř Path and the Golden Path. These historical paths connected Bohemia with the Danubian regions around Regensburg (St Vintíř Path) and around Passau (Golden Path). The Church of St Mauritius is situated on a perch above the Otava River near the...
"Porta coeli" convent in Předklášteří u Tišnova and west portal of its convent church
Prokůpková, Eva ; Mudra, Aleš (advisor) ; Kuthan, Jiří (referee)
"PORTA COELI" CONVENT IN PŘEDKLÁŠTEŘÍ U TIŠNOVA AND WEST PORTAL OF ITS CONVENT CHURCH The Tišnov convent Porta coeli ("gateway to heaven") was probably founded in 1232 by the Czech Queen Konstancie, daughter of the Hungarian King Béla III and widow of the Czech King Przemysl Otakar I, who was greatly supported by her sons - the Czech King Wenceslas I and Moravian Margrave Przemysl. Of the church notables it was particularly Robert, bishop of Olomouc, who rendered his support during the construction of the convent. The building progressed quickly, sponsored by the prominent figures of the Przemyslid state. Earliest core of the convent was constituted by the convent church and convent buildings, cloister and chapter house, enclosing wall with a moat and defensive towers, a residential building by the entrance gate and St Kateřina's Chapel in the northwestern part of the courtyard (torn down just before the convent was closed by the Emperor Joseph II in 1782), which was finished at very earliest stage. Most important buildings of the medieval convent were built in the years 1232 - 1240. The early Gothic complex of buildings which survives basically intact today, ranks among the most valuable architectural works built in the Czech state in the second quarter of the 13th century. The convent church on...
The Church of Our Lady in Nürnberg and her sculpture
Srovnal, Filip ; Homolka, Jaromír (advisor) ; Kuthan, Jiří (referee)
English summary: The Church of Our Lady in Nürnberg and her sculpture The church of Our Lady in Nürnberg was founded by Charles IV (1316-1389) in 1355 when he returned from his crown-journey to Rome. So it was his first "emperor-foundation". The church was built probably between 1352 and 1361 as well as the sculptural decoration. We can follow up an extensive iconographic programme especially on the west facade which was supposedly ordained by Charles IV himself. This type of state-representation-scheme anticipate the further famous iconology of St. Vitus Cathedral. Some scientsts suppose that the author of this monument is Peter Parler, master builder of St. Vitus Cathedral because of high parlerian character of the architecture and sculptures and by virtue of the chronology (Peter Parler came to Prague in 1356). However we can't agree this hypothesis, because the style reasons are too general for this proposition, they don't smite a personal style of Peter Parler. For all that we regard the best pieces of the sculpture group on the west front of the church as individual manifestation of early Parlerian style. We can see the nearest affinity in the prophets at south-chorus portal in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Nürnberg - Parler - Charles IV. - gothic sculpture - gothic architecture
