Statue, location, relation - Bohemia in 80's of the 20th century
Péčová, Kristýna ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Prahl, Roman (referee)
As a subject to my bachelor's thesis I chose the sculptures and installations made by Czech artists during the period of 1980s, which were created with the aim of exterior placement, out of the traditional exhibition spaces represented by museums and galleries. The keynote of my work will be the relation and interactions between a piece of art and its surroundings as well as the concept of space itself and its overlooked qualities that art may help to reveal. I decided to focus on the exhibition known as Malostranské dvorky, which took place in Prague in 1981. The idea that has led to the organization of the exhibition and its specific circumstances will be my main interest alongside the description of the particular works of art displayed and their destiny during and after the official end of the exhibition. Furthermore, I will compare the exhibition held in the intimate and unique atmosphere of the old Prague quarter with art that was produced in the same period of time within the official state commissions for newly constructed housing estates and public buildings, such as department stores, hospitals and more. Last but not least, both phenomenons of Czech outdoor sculpture will be compared in more global context with site-specific artworks. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Primitivism in the Czech art. From the fifties of the 20th century
Straková, Adéla ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Winter, Tomáš (referee)
This work can not cover all forms of primitivism in the late 20th century, and precisely define the category, despite the fact that in some way, of course, trying to do so. It can only be seen as one way of looking. In the last century the concept of primitivism faced accusations of ethnocentric perspective and evaluation. But it turned out that ethnocentrism can not from a position of European science completely removed, as the science of art history is a product of Western thinking. Primitivism also still struggled with negative connotations, although it succeeded in broad artistic and intellectual spheres connect the concept of "primitive" or "primitiv's" with the value in the sense of value in art. But it is still possible to say that the negative connotations of primitivism is struggling especially among unskilled public. We can talk about primitivism's effects in the second half of the 20th century, we should separate the intuitive behavior and instinct unconscious primitivism as conscious primitivism , which can generally be understood as meaning of a conscious regression, a return to "originál" cleaner. We can perhaps say that from the beginning of the history of mankind is bound up with what is called "regression". In the minds of the Roman philosophers appears deprecation newer and more efficient...
Jan Kotík 1916-2002 - A Monograph
Mladičová, Iva ; Wittlich, Petr (advisor) ; Klimešová, Marie (referee) ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (referee)
1 Abstract A monograph on Jan Kotík (1916-2002) introduces both his art and theoretical work, it deals with a historical and cultural context of the now-defunct Czechoslovakia. Kotík's - an artist's, theoretician's, published author's, educator's - artwork enjoys a prominent position in the context of Czech art of the second half of 20th century. An art-historical assessment of artwork was based on Kotik's artwork inventory and on all the documentation on Kotik's life and art work archived in the Documentation Department of the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences of the CR and in private archives in the CR and Berlin. The study is based on a method of organic combination of biographical data and art-historical data with quotation of Kotik's theoretical texts. An evolution of artist's work is demonstrated chronologically with the context to Czech and world art. The monograph includes chapters: "Father Pravoslav's Art Studio and Study Years", "Art Group 42", "Possibilities of Applied Art", "Painting-Object", "Stay in Berlin", "Returns".
The Cobra Movement in the Context of Art of the 40s and early 50s.
Strasserová, Anna ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Rakušanová, Marie (referee)
This work deals with the experimental art group Cobra which united artists of three countries - Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands, after the World War II. Although this movement was active only between the years 1948 and 1951, the beginning of this group can be traced in the pre-war period when the future members of the group were influenced by the mainstream art movements. Similarly, we cannot see the year 1951 as the end of the importance of this international art formation. Despite the short duration, the group united number of artists from different countries who then influenced many of future artists and art movements. This work therefore mentions the activity of Cobra members before the actual establishment of the group, attempts to describe in detail its work during its existence, and lastly, it indicates its further heading. A special chapter is dedicated to the connection of the group Cobra to the Czech art. The artists of Cobra drew their main inspiration from the work of arts of specific groups, such as that of children, mentally ill, so called primitive nations, or from the folk art. Alongside that, the artists created their own unique style based on collective and spontaneous work and liberal art expression. The plurality of their art expression and their relationship to other art...
Matti Suuronen and plastic architecture of the sixties
Opěla, Jan ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Biegel, Richard (referee)
The main topic which the bachelor's work deals with is plastic architecture of the sixties. The aim of my endeavours was to underscore the body of work of finish architect Matti Suuronen paying greater attention to his most famous building dubbed Futuro. Additionally I made effort to put this kind of architecture into the proper historical context and once again to point to the importance of some features this comprises of. Among these traits we count especially variability, mobility, prefabrication and also shape predetermination issued from the substance of the plastics themselves. Besides Suuronen's ones, some resembling buildings are mentioned.

Mgr. Zuzana Horvatovičová The Italian movement Arte Povera, Czechoslovak Nová citlivost and Czech - Italian relationships around Jindřich Chalupecký and Jiří Padrta ABSTRACT The main theme of this thesis was to compare two artistic phenomena of the sixties of the 20th century: the Italian movement Arte Povera (Poor Art, 1967) and the Czechoslovak avant-garde concentrated around the group exhibition New Sensitivity (Nová citlivost, 1968). It also focused on the network of contacts and principal organizers of Italian exhibitions especially in Prague and Czechoslovak exhibitions in Italy. Long research in archives and collecting of documentary material, catalogues and reviews led to very interesting results. Arguments of the thesis are based on the comparison of the constructivist work of the New Sensitivity artists with the group of Arte Povera and with the kinetic work of Arte Programmata. Much more shared elements were found to exist between the Czechoslovak circle of the New Sensitivity and the Italian artistic tendency Arte Programmata than between the artists and art works of exhibition New Sensitivity and the group Arte Povera. Italy and Czechoslovakia maintained a different art and "parallel" culture, although they came to a rather close contact in the "revolutionary" sixties.
Stage design of Josef Svoboda in the Theatre and Grand opera of 5th May
Frydlová, Veronika ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Klimešová, Marie (referee)
Josef Svoboda is one of the few stage setters well known in the Czech Republic and also abroad whose work is appreciated by general cultural public. He and also František Tröster and Vlastislav Hofman brought themselves to theatergoers' notice. Laterna Magika audience can still be fascinated by his creative invention and his visual and technical talent (light experiments and usage of two-way mirrors). Josef Svoboda is known mainly as a Laterna Magica stage setter. Not many people know that he started his career in opera-house Velká opera 5. května. He worked here as a very young, beginning artist till the year 1948 when the theater was canceled. He was a stage setting director. He met here a group of young and creative actors and directors and together they created a unique type of a theater which changed established opera stereotypes. Josef Svoboda participated in this process by creating novel stage settings, always in accordance with the style of each inscenation. He always started from the essence of the story, for example in production Hoffmanovy povídky, Prodaná nevěsta, Tosca (still could be seen in the original form in Státní opera) and Výlety pana Broučka. He never followed stereotypes used by his predecessors and he created his own new stage space. In my work firstly I have tried to summarize the...
Mirko Hanák (1921 - 1071) in the context of contemporary illustration
Fulíková, Anna ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Stehlíková, Blanka (referee)
Children's book publishing was a part of the state-controlled system after 1945 and several movements can be recognised within it. The development and illustration requirements, changing during the 1950s and 1960s, can be mostly inferred from contemporary literature by writers Stehlíková and Holešovský, the Zlatý máj magazine or submissions to the 1972 Brno symposium exploring the relationship between literary text and its visual art interpretation. After outlining the principal relationships, this work focuses on a more detailed exploration of the illustrations by Mirko Hanák, whose work originated during the 1950s and 1960s before being terminated by a premature death in 1971. Hanák freed himself of the compulsory realism during the 1950s and chose a path towards symbolism, which helped him achieve a respected creative status in the 1960s. Hanák's talents chiefly manifested themselves in his wildlife illustrations for adventure books, where he employed the watercolour technique. He took inspiration from Chinese ink painting, with which he became familiarised thanks to the many exhibitions taking place in the context of the contemporary cultural exchange between Czechoslovakia and the People's Republic of China. Both working with the originals of Hanák's illustrations and a comparison between individual...
Activation of seniors with the help of yoga
Klimešová, Marie ; Leontovyčová, Jana (advisor) ; Chittussiová, Lenka (referee)
My final work is aimed at the activation of seniors with help of yoga. The purpose of this work was to describe theoretically the benefits of yoga and of physical activity in senescence. With help of a questionnaire, we proved the effects of yoga in practise. The theoretical part describes movement and it's features, the philosophy of yoga, which is fundamental for the practise. The practical part is divided in two parts: a sample lesson for seniors and a questionnaire-survey. The survey is aimed at elderly people who have been exercising yoga for a long time. In the conclusion we confirmed our two hypotheses concerning the activation of seniors with the help of yoga.
