Rhytmical system of indian classical music as a source of inspiration for western composers
Reindl, Tomáš ; BARTOŇ, Hanuš (advisor) ; HOŘÍNKA, Slavomír (referee)
In this work, the author addresses how, in different ways, western composers can be inspired and influenced by the concepts of the rhythmic systems used in both North Indian (Hindusthani) and South-Indian (Carnatic) classical music. Numerous examples are given in the text from the works of various European, American and Canadian composers who received inspiration and creative material from Indian rhythms in different ways. Among these illustrations are classics of 20th century music composed by luminaries such as Olivier Messiaen, Miloslav Kabeláč and Philip Glass (among others) - for whom the highly advanced systems of rhythm from India became a major impetus for the development of their musical language. The author himself is a long-term student and performer of Indian classical music, and in this text, through examples from his own compositions, he reveals and explains different compositional techniques influenced and inspired by the systems of rhythm in Indian music.

The Bass as a Manifestation of Periodicity in Music
Esterle, Vojtěch ; MRKVIČKA, Luboš (advisor) ; HOŘÍNKA, Slavomír (referee)
This paper defines the function of the bass as the basis of harmonic hierarchy at first. After that the different forms of the bass in particular
periods of time are followed. Then the problem of suppressing a bass in avant-garde music of the 20th century is brought forward; its new comeback is found in the minimal and the spectral music. The thesis is based on the concept of the affinity of principles which are responsible for the harmonic and the rhythmic hierarchy; this is the reason why the bass function can emerge also in a form of the rhythmic pulsation.

Introduction to rhythm System of indian classical Music
Reindl, Tomáš ; BARTOŇ, Hanuš (advisor) ; HOŘÍNKA, Slavomír (referee)
This work is focused on explanation of principles, concepts and forms of rhythm system of indian classical music. On this topic there haven´t been written any other autonomous work in czech language before. The work itself is divided into two parts concentrated separatelly on north-indian (hindustani) and south-indian (canatic) system. Both of them are born from same roots but there are remarkable differences too. For both of these traditions there is explanation of different rhytmical forms and their analysis, indian rhythm cycles (tála), their counting systems and its practical usage. For India there is typical way of recitation of rhythms using special sylables (bol). For their comprehension there is necessary to explain basics of indian tabla playing and its traditional repertoir. Autor himself was long term devoted to this musical system which he studied deeply with indian masters. As a tabla player he is playing this music regularly and as composer he is often inspired by these sophisticated rhythm principles

Janošík, Michal ; Kučera, Václav (advisor) ; Hořínka, Slavomír (referee) ; Zouhar, Vít (referee)
This thesis tries to solve some questions connected with the aesthetics and structure of diatonic music language in the context of modern artificial compositions. Each of the four chapters is focused on different aspects of diatonic composition and its use especially in the field of so-called minimalist music. The chapter called Music Means and its Effect summarises the aesthetic views on the development and further direction of modern music language. It deals with the kinaesthetic aspect of music and its direct influence on the audience via sound frequence, dynamics, colour, time, repetitiveness or monotony, dissonance and consonance etc. There is the summarisation of practical professional experience from the point of view of different genres and styles. This chapter also studies the possibilities to use particular music means within modern music. The chapter Diatonics analyses and theoretically explains the structure of pentatonic, diatonic, chromatic and pandiatonic tone system and thinks about the use of diatonics in the field of minimalist music. The chapter Diatonics in Own Compositions solves the particular compositional problems connected with the use of diatonics in own compositions. Finally, the chapter called Interpretation of Minimalist Music is about practical experience with interpretation of minimalist compositions and its specific features.
