Horký, Petr ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Mikuláš, Peter (referee) ; Hádková, Jana (referee)
Media Presentation od Miroslav Zikmund and Jiri Hanzelka in the years 1947-1969 Abstract Author: Petr Horký Department: FSV UK, Department of Media Studies Supervisor: Prof. MgA. Martin Štoll, Ph.D. Miroslav Zikmund (1919-2021) and Jiří Hanzelka (1920-2003) were Czech travelers who, in the years 1947-1967, realized two great journeys together with the original plan of circumnavigating the globe. Their motivation was not only to get to know foreign countries, but to present and defend the commercial interests of Czechoslovakia, also to offer Czechoslovak goods and to establish new business contacts for their country. Already during the first journey, however, there was a communist coup in Czechoslovakia (1948) and most of the prearranged agreements were cancelled. However, because they sent engaging reports from their travels, and after their return their books and films received phenomenal success, soon this pair, known by the abbreviation H+Z (or Z+H), became one of the best-known public figures alongside athlete Emil Zátopek. At the time of the Prague Spring, i.e. until 1968, they performed publicly and openly, even some people could Jiří Hanzelka nominat for the presidency of the republic. After 1970, by occupying Warsaw Pact troops, the communist regime did everything to silence the two travelers....
Vít Klusák's films - manipulation or author's originality?
Šipanová, Marie ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Horký, Petr (referee)
The thesis deals with Vít Klusák's documentary movies. Klusák is currently among the most prominent documentarists in the Czech Republic and is also a pedagogue at the most prestigious Czech film school, FAMU. Several main characters of his documentaries, social actors, accused him of manipulating them into talking or acting in a way they would not normally perform. In the past, several journalists opened the topic of manipulation of social actors. Moreover, it is also a topic of the commentary section in the Czech and Slovak online movie database (ČSFD) and in Czech Television iVysílání (online streaming platform) discussions. The aim of this thesis is to find out what makes Klusák's work this specific and whether we can claim that he manipulates social actors, or if it is the author's original and unique approach to documentary movies. To describe the specifics of Klusák's work, I will make a qualitative content analysis of six films that he directed or co-directed (Klusák usually co-directs with Filip Remunda). The focus will be on the director's work with social actors as well as theme inspiration, sound work, and others. The analysis will show what features are typical for Vít Klusák and whether any of them can be called manipulation.

This analysis will also compare the change in the attitude of the media and also the attitude of the military towards the media. This approach will be compared to previous conflicts, which include the Vietnam War, and will shed light on the possible changes that have occurred over time. The thesis will aim to introduce the reader to the conflict itself, presenting a comprehensive view of the selected contemporary press, focusing on Czech and American sources. Analysis of media coverage in selected Czech media concerning The War on Terror
Hlosek, Alexander G. ; Horký, Petr (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
My bachelor thesis focused on the Afghanistan withdrawal of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces. Veterans of this conflict heavily criticized the process of withdrawing troops. However, some politicians, including the American President Biden, labelled the withdrawal as a success. The purpose of my thesis is to determine how the Afghanistan withdrawal was portrayed in the Czech Republic. I selected two news websites (iDNES.cz and Novinky.cz). Due to the amount of content, I focused my analysis on a specific time period: 08.25.2021 - 08.31.2021. With the use of key words, I determined if the majority of content was positive, negative or neutral. My findings show that negative content exceeded positive content. The negative key word "chaos" was used most often on both news websites. The analysis is not focused on the withdrawal of Czech troops. The purpose is to analyze content concerning NATO. Content concerning the withdrawal of Czech forces was considered as neutral. Apart from the analysis I studied all content concerning the Afghanistan withdrawal on news websites iDNES.cz and Novinky.cz published during August and September 2021. Furthermore, I have observed the Afghanistan war and been in close contact with combat veterans, constantly receiving their opinion on the withdrawal...

Šťastná, Zuzana ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Horký, Petr (referee)
The bachelor thesis called Starting Televize Seznam - A New Internet Media Distribution Channel is dedicated to the newly established TV channel which was launched in 2018 by Czech internet company Seznam.cz. The entrance of internet company to the field of television broadcasting is not very usual. In the age of digital technology boom, the process of media expansion is in most cases opposite. More often, TV stations launch their web versions and social networks on which they provide content that is the same as in broadcasting or in some way enriched. This results in the media convergence, changes in media production and also in media professions. At present everyone is online almost continuously on a mobile phone, it is more important for media companies to offer users more diverse content anytime, anywhere. The audiences have undergone significant changes mainly due to a network media. The users can choose what to watch or read anytime in the day. In addition they can interact with the content or even produce it. The thesis reflects on why Seznam.cz launched the so-called old media, when according to some lay estimates the television will soon cease to exist. It answers the question of whether this is an unusual step took by the Czech internet leader, or if it complies with the modern...
