Hrabcová, Klára ; Zukerstein, Jaroslav (advisor) ; El-Ahmadieh, Jakub (referee)

Also, this revolution have had a crucial impact on the foreign policy of the new regime. Under Khomeini's regime, the diplomatic relations with the United States were cancelled. Also, the Islamic revolution led to the deterioration of relations with Iraq, whose leader Saddam Hussein undertook a military intervention to Iran in September 1980. The United States had supported the Iraqi regime from the beginning of the conflict. The main question of this thesis is what reasons led the U.S. to support Hussein's regime, which was seen by the U.S. as hostile regime until the outbreak of this war, and what were the main intentions of the US foreign policy during the conflict. Impact of the USA on the EU's actorness in the Iran negotiation
Rosenheim, Adam ; Weiss, Tomáš (advisor) ; El-Ahmadieh, Jakub (referee)
Impact of the USA on the EU's actorness in the Iran negotiation A. Rosenheim, LS 2018/2019 1 Abstract In 2006 an extensive negotiation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and a wide international coalition (P5+1) was established to discuss the Iranian nuclear programme that has become the main priority regarding Iran after the revelations made in 2002. Most of the time during the course of this negotiation, the European Union performed a leading role of the entire P5+1 group that includes other major players in global politics. Using criteria of actorness defined by Lynne Dryburgh, this thesis evaluates the EU's concrete political actions taken within this complex process and analyses the potential U.S. influence on the EU's actorness through a comparison of the character of EU's actorness in two given periods (2006-2016 and 2017-2018). The analysis of this thesis is based mainly on EU's official documents (conclusions of the Council of the EU and the European Council) and statements of other entities' representatives involved in the negotiation. By means of evaluation of the chosen criteria, this thesis concludes that while the changed approach of the American administrative has influenced some aspect of the EU's position, the Union's actorness towards Iran has remained intact.

Dvořáková, Eliška ; Hornát, Jan (advisor) ; El-Ahmadieh, Jakub (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with effectiveness of development cooperation and democracy promotion of United States of America in Iraq. The US provides the most resources for development cooperation in the world at face value. Annually, they define a few tens of billions of dollars from their federal budget. It is a highly debated and controversial topic, whose effectiveness is constantly argued by both politicians and economists. The region of Middle East and North Africa is among the largest recipients of US cooperation. When Iraq and US are debated, everyone imagines the US invasion in Iraq, but they also provide a very voluminous development cooperation. But the question that remains is its effectiveness and its impact on Iraq's development. The first part of the thesis focuses on the basic terminology and types of cooperation, its main theories, motivations and objectives of states for providing development assistance and the basics of democracy support. The second part is devoted to American development support - a brief history of its delivering and attempts to reform it. It also contains a sub-chapter about US institutions through which development cooperation and democracy promotion in the Middle East is delivered. The last chapter contains a case study on effectiveness of US development...

Concretely reactions from Saudi Arabia on these policy decisions with chronologic analysis and emphasis on movement of world oil prices. Core of these thesis could be divided into three parts. First on eis fall of oil prices which took place against the backdrop of the Global Financial Crisis. Second is period of stable oil prices between 2009-2014 with huge tight oil development. Last one is fall of oil prices after June 2014. Each of these periods had its own impact on US-Saudi relations. This analysis shows change in Saudi traditional role as swing producer between 2008 and 2014. Main reasons were behaviour of producents like Ira nor Russia in 2008 downcycle and mentioned development of tight oil production in US, which both were perceived as a threat by Saudi Arabia. Analysis also shows that although president Obama to some extend managed to achieve american energy independence on imported oil it does not solve american energy security issue. Main security threat stays american incapability of controling world oil prices.

The thesis concentrates on what was the reason to ignore this risk in the second Gulf war when it was taken into consideration during the first one, regarding the fact that both administrations had very similar personal and political basis.
