Theatre as a home

The aim of this thesis is to show theatre as a space of personal and professional growth, a place where one can respond to pressing issues that emerge from the world and its events. The name of this thesis is Theatre as Home with subtitle Identity, Memory, and Space. The first chapter, Theatre and Alchemy, describes an internship with Min Tanaka, and deals with theatre?s transforming potential, with movement and its development from traditional cultivation of land all the way to the stylised dance movements of butó, where body and landscape reflect each other. This dance technique stems from a specific cultural memory and particular historical situation. It is a concrete demonstration of the idea that a connection between life and dance is not just a dream: it can be an instrument of discovering identity.

Czech Commercial Photography During the Era of Normalization

The thesis is presenting the specific situation of Czech commercial
photography during the era of normalization. It tries to analyze the
production of photographers working for the companies oriented toward
the export. The text explores functionality of these companies, the
assignments policy, censorship and honorary politics. It also
investigates relationship between advertisement for the foreign
markets and organization the local fine art scene. The thesis lists
the photographers working for these companies, interviews with some
of them and illustration of visual style of the period.

The Change of Reality Depending on Lighting

This thesis discusses the changes in perceived reality that occur depending on the specific lighting of a given place. These photographic principles are demonstrated and described through the examples of six authors (Léonard Misonne, Emila Medková, Bernd a Hilla Becherovi, Magdalena Jetelová, Jan Pohribný a Jiří Šigut). The main theme of these photographers is the landscape or cityscape in the context of natural daylight. This thesis is also concerned with the socio-cultural perception of light, its spiritual aspects and it considers physical categories as well. Part of this work also constitutes a dictionary of terms. The dictionary tries to describe the meaning of some terms that are connected to the theme of light.

Photography and Memory - Karel Absolon

The object of my work is the personality of Karel Absolon (1877-1960), researcher from Brno. Among other things, Absolon carried out research work of the Moravian karst region. The main interest focuses on Absolon´s descents to the bottom of the Macocha abyss, and particularly on his photograpic and popularizing activities, unprecedented in the then society. Soon he came to understand the role and possibilities of the photographic medium which he used with the aim of promoting not only his research work, but also himself. Absolon did not perceive himself as a photographer but rather a scientist, however his photographic work reached a very high level, both technical and artistic. He was also able to use the potential of the new medium to its full extent. Absolon´s photographic pictures became a sensation. Their scientific and romantic nature held the attention of the audience and gave them the feeling of sharing the adventure of discovering the unknown together with the author. However, Absolon´s enthusiasm about photography was directly related
to his research work, and thus it is necessary to understand his legacy in this context.

Hella Heyman/Hammid

Ve své teoretické bakalářské práci jsem se zaměřila na americkou fotografku Hellu Heyman/Hammid. Hella Hammid za svůj život vytvořila nespočetné množství dokumentárních fotografií s dětskou tematikou, které mají velký sociální i sociologický přesah. Její knižní ilustrace jsou důkazem toho, jak precizně zvládala zakázky, ale i svoji volnou tvorbu. Vypovídají o její schopnosti komunikovat s dětmi, ale i o její úžasné invenci a tvůrčí práci.
