K 231 in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s Lucie Šlesingerová Abstract Bachelor thesis deals with a group of former political prisoners, who have established Club 231 and stayed in Czechoslovakia after the occupation in the year 1968. It aims to desribe their lives, the extent of interest and oppression by the state, especially in relation to the State security and state propaganda. The text is divided in two parts, the first briefly explains the conditions leading to the creation of K 231 in connection to the course of action taken by the communist party towards the internal enemies. The second part deals with the changes after the end of the so called Prague Spring and their meaning for the former political prisoners. The goal is to define the club's political role in the normalization period in Czechoslovakia until the year 1980, when it was replaced by new opposition movements. The forced labour camp Dolní Jiřetín

The Forced Labour Camps were one of the first forms of mass extra - judicial persecution in Czechoslovakia after the assumption by the communists in February 1948. The law which officia1ly caused their establishment was carried on 25th October 1948 and it started to operate on 17th November 1948. The first camps were prepared before the law started to operate but their function started only by the end of 1948. The first camp started to operate in Kladno - Dříň and the second one was opened in Dolní Jiřetín and it is the theme of this work. The Forced Labour Camp in Dolní Jiřetín was established by the ministerial order from 7th December 1948. By this time there was a commander and eleven guards started to work. The location was prepared several weeks ago by the employees of SHD (the Mine - company in the north Bohemia). The first people were sent there by the end of December 1948 but only a small number. Many more people came after the camp moved from the place nb. 43 to place nb. 24 at the end of January 1949. Both these camps arose during the second world war and their technical state wasn't very good. The intemees started to work for SHD. The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate transformation of the Czechoslovakia penitentiary system in the years of 1945-1952. Examples of the individual personal histories of the prison officers are utilized in this research. The influence of their work environment is analyzed. Social and political origin of these new prison officers, the issue of their education and motivation for their service entry into the Prison Guard Force is addressed. I am also investigating the behaviour differences of the prison guards considering their treatment of the individual prisoners. Finally, the individual penitentiary facilities are commented on as well. Key words: Communism, penitentiary system, prison officers

This Bachelor thesis focuses on a life story of Albína Palkosková-Wiesenbergerová (1908-2002), newspaperwoman, writer and a political prisoner of the 1950's. The thesis describes Albína's life based on her written memoirs and confronts these with the archived documents to create an appropriate view of her life. One part of the work focuses on the life style of female political prisoners in communist labor camps.
