TV show Ulice as the first czech daily soap opera

The aim of the submitted thesis "TV show Ulice (The Street) as the first Czech daily Soap opera is to analyze TV Nova's daily series Ulice. The first part of the thesis defines soap opera as a genre, it's history, development and definition. It defines characteristic elements of genre. Then the thesis concerns with TV show Ulice. It describes creation of the show, production, environment and characters of the show. Ulice is compared with British shows Coronation Street and EastEnders throughout the thesis.
Reproduction of Gender Roles in Kindergarden and Family

The diploma thesis deals with the gender-differentiated attitude to which children are exposed from birth. The aim of ethnographic research, which was carried out in the kindergarten environment, was to find out how parents and teachers socialize pre-school children. Another aim was to find out whether gender stereotypes were reproduced in a kindergarten. For this purpose, I conducted an observation in the kindergarten class, which I then supplemented with interviews the parents of the children and also with the teachers of the kindergarten. An experiment was also part of the research. The thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part introduces the basic concepts and arguments related to the research question. The empirical part of the work is devoted to methodological procedures, further it consists of analysis of interviews with parents, teachers, but also analyzes of the observation in kindergarten and experiment with children of preschool age.
Gender analyse of female heroes developement in Walt Disney animation

The thesis addresses analysis of stories and narrative in relation to the subject of gender. This analysis primarily deals with fairy tale The Beauty and the Beast by Disney. The first part is about general theoretical basis for my thesis and about the most important authors in this field. Archetypes and logocentrism topics are dealt with partially as well. The foundations of the first part are however literary and motion-picture feministic theories, also the concept of the myth of beauty. In the practical part sequences of the The Beast and the Beauty are studied. Findings described in theoretical part is utilized here and the marked and subtle influence of androcentric culture on style and content of the story is shown.
Talent show Got talent as television format and its cultural differencies: comparative study of four global versions

This thesis deals with talent show Got Talent and through this television format compares four culturally different adaptations. This comparision is based on analysis of these four shows: Česko Slovensko má talent, America's Got Talent, Britain's Got Talent and China's Got Talent. Content of the shows is different in many respects thanks to distincts in television histories and diverse culture in each territory. The theoretical part focus on culture and development in television broadcasting in selected countries. Another chapter describes the market with licenses for television formats and differencies in local adaptations of shows and series. Content analysis itself was based on comparison of selected series of the show Got Talent and particular episode. It was found that worldwide television formats differ in many respects. Rules of the show, roles of the judges, dramaturgical structure of episode and casting of contestants are adapt to local culture and lifestyle. There are some common features in shows on the other hand: emphasis on personal life stories of the contestants and effort to create integrated story for whole episode through specific structure of the episode. We can say that television shows has influence on culture and culture affects content of the programme.

The purpose of my thesis is to analyse watching medical dramas by professional medical stuff. This thesis is composed of eight chapters, each of them dealing with different aspects of medical dramas and audiences. Chapter one is introductory describes the influence of media on society. Chapter two is focused on the relation of media and audience. The chapter consists of five parts. Part one focuses on the definition of audience. Part two talks about randomly and purposely aggregated audiences. Part three addresses the issue of communication activity of audience. Part four investigates the relation between media and audiences. Part five describes four stadiums of evolution of audience. Chapter three is subdivided into four parts and characterizes analytical approaches to audience and analysis of audience. Part one looks at behavioural structural approach. Part two focuses on structural approach. Part three talks about cultural approach. Part four focuses on analysis of audience. Chapter four concentrates on the topic of fandom. This chapter is divided into six parts. In the first one I talk about fans in basic. The second part defines the term "fan" and third part defines "fandom". Ordinary people in the area of media constructed reality (reality show Prostřeno)

The aim of the thesis is to understand the behaviour affected by social distinction contained in the environment and conversations of participants of a reality television show. The current media scene is flooded with reality television shows, which in numbers never seen before, uses sections of various media consumers for its own purposes. The basis for the work was the concept of Demotic Turn of Ordinary People, ie those groups of consumers of media content who are not considered to be experts or celebrities and are not deemed to be interesting by the media or engaged in the media, and during the program they enter into a media-constructed reality. Using analytical concepts in examining lifestyles and class distinction, I qualitatively analyzed the content of a selected sample of the reality television show Prostřeno! I used the principles of grounded theory and on the theories based on the work by Pierre Bourdieu. The theoretical part is focused on the concept of class and habitat. A Comparison of Approaches to Gender Socialization in the Sluníčko Magazine in 1977 and 2012

The diploma thesis Comparison of methods of gender socialization in the Sluníčko magazine in 1977 and 2012, focuses on the topic of gender in printed magazine for the youngest children. Specifically, it examines and compares the methods for portraying female and male characters in the text and illustrations in the Sluníčko magazine in 1977 and 2012. It analyzes the ways gender is viewed and considers its impact on gender socialization of children. The research consists of a quantitative part, which aims to evaluate the frequency of the representation and of qualitative part, which aims at content analysis and interpretation of the meanings hidden in the text and illustrations. For the analysing texts and illustrations were selected of two areas, family relationships in the private sector and relationships at work in the public sphere. At the theoretical level were used sociology, psychology, feminist theory and gender studies theories. The way-out of this research is the assumption that aesthetic and educational ambitions of Sluníčko magazine combined with aging readership of this magazine is a important element of gender socialization of children and, therefore, the aim is to find out whether the gender socialization is implemented in a gender-sensitive way.

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na téma homosexuality a LGBT diskurzu v 90. letech v ČR prostřednictvím analýzy časopisu Promluv. V teoretické části jsou představeny stěžejní koncepty a teoretická východiska, která při zkoumání konceptu homosexuality obecně není možné z genderového hlediska opomenout. Dále je téma zasazeno do historického kontextu. Empirická část zahrnuje kromě popisu metodologie také diskurzivní analýzu časopisu Promluv. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda a jak se časopis Promluv vymezoval převládajícím diskurzům týkajících se politiky identit, sexuality a feminismu. Analytická část je rozdělena do pěti oblastí výzkumu. Factors of success of TV Chefs-"Cooking showorthiness"

There is only little attention payed to cooking shows in academic world. Mostly only mass media and public give their opinion on this topic. Due to many shows that exist and their spread, it is sufficient to concentrate on them also in academic writings. This diploma thesis tries to define cooking shows as genre. In analytic part it concentrates on one important aspect of cooking shows - their chefs. At first this thesis gives theoretic ground to cooking shows. It describes theories which are dealing with food. Then it takes a look on theories describing processes in contemporary culture. It is followed by chapter about reality TV and reality shows. History part about cooking shows contents also description of most important cooking shows and their chefs, both foregin and Czech production. At the end of theory part the position of cooking shows as TV genre is stated. In this thesis, new and unique term was created - TV chefs' values. It describes set of factors, which are important for TV chefs' to have to suceed. These factors are natural acting, sense of humor, loving food and vocational education in the field. The reseaarch was based on watching three cooking shows and interviews with people responsible for choosing chefs to these cooking shows.
