Application of virtual reality in upper limb therapy in patients after a stroke
Hnátková, Marie ; Machač, Stanislav (advisor) ; Šembera, Martin (referee)
The theoretical part of the thesis deals with stroke from the medical and physiotherapeutic point of view with respect to movement deficit of the paretic upper limb. Specifically, the diagnosis of the disease, therapy and incidence including risk factors are mentioned. The practical part deals with 7 case reports of patients who underwent rehabilitation using virtual reality 2-3 times a week over the course of 8 weeks. The aim of these case studies is to determine the influence and evaluate the effectiveness of virtual reality therapy on functional deficit of the upper limb in different patients after stroke. The purpose is also to monitor practical aspects of therapy of specific patients after stroke, which will be taken into account in cooperation with the developers for future improvement of rehabilitation systems using VR. The Frenchay arm test, the modified Frenchay scale and the Visual Assessment Score of the Hand Functional Task are used to objectify the function of the upper limb. The evaluation is complemented by the quality of life questionnaires EQ-5D-3L and Short Form-36. The measurement further evaluates the momentum of the paretic upper limb, in particular the joint extent and the rate of spasticity using the modified Ashworth scale. All examinations are performed both at the initial...
The relationship between morphology of abdominal wall muscles and back pain in elite floorball players
Kramperová, Adéla ; Machač, Stanislav (advisor) ; Šembera, Martin (referee)
The diploma thesis evaluates the morphology of the abdominal wall muscles focusing on the assessment of lateral symmetry in elite female floorball players and its relationship with the occurrence of back pain in these players. The theoretical part of the thesis includes an overview of the physiological mechanisms of postural stabilization in comparison with deviations in patients with back pain and describes the principles of sonographic examination and its use in physiotherapy. The theoretical part is also focused on the imagining of the abdominal muscles and the summary of specific findings in floorball players and other athletes, with a predominant one-sided load related to the biomechanics of movement in these sports. Methodology: A total of 20 female players of the highest floorball competition in the Czech Republic participated in this research. The linear parameters of the abdominal muscles (m. RA, m. TrA, m. OI and m. OE) and the whole lateral abdominal muscles were measured in players on both sides at rest using sonography. The participants also filled in an electronic questionnaire evaluating back pain. Results: Significant lateral asymmetry of linear parameters of abdominal muscles was demonstrated in the work (p = 0,017; d = 0,52). The relationship between the lateral asymmetry and the...
Variables predicting the effects of surgery in patients with low back pain
Hollasová, Sára ; Kavka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šembera, Martin (referee)
Variables predicting the effects of surgery in patients with low back pain Abstract The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the knowledge about pain and its types, especially chronic pain. Than we focus on low back pain and currently used approaches in the treatment of this syndrome. In this work we summarize the influence of central sensitization and adverse life experineces and posttraumatic stress disorder on pain (especially low back pain). In the practical part, we investigated the effect of central sensitization and adverse life events and posttraumatic stress disroder on the effect of spinal surgery in low back region. The results were obtained using Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI), PTSD Cecklist dor DSM-5 (PCL- 5) a Life Event Checklist (LEC-5 Standard), Short Form 36 Helth Survey Questionnaire (SF- 36), NASS Lumbar Spine Questionnaire. The obtained data were statistically evaluated and processed. Higher scores of CSI and LEC-5 (more adverse life events) were both statistically significantly correlated with worse low back surgery outcomes. At the same time, a statistically significant relationship between PCL-5 (checklist of PTSD symptoms) and CSI was confirmed. Keywords Pain, central sensitization, adverse life experiences, adverse life events, PTSD, posttraumatic stress disorder,...
Aerobic fitness and physical activity in children with primary ciliary dyskinesia
Šembera, Martin ; Procházka, Michal (advisor) ; Smolíková, Libuše (referee)
Primary ciliary dyskinesia is a rare hereditary disorder with impairment of cilia characterized by chronic cough with sputum, bronchiectasis or pneumonia. Regular exercise training should affect pulmonary function, promote mucociliary clearance and improve quality of life. The aim of this thesis is to compare the aerobic fitness of patients with PCD with a control group.
