The process of the establishment of national Lithuanian historiography in the 19th century

The Process of Constituting National Lithuanian Historiography in the 19th Century Until the 19th century, Lithuanian historiography was understood as provincial, the national identity of Lithuanians had not been defined yet, and the formation of the modern Lithuanian nation had practically not begun yet. Lithuanian national culture, influenced by the dominant Polish culture, had to gradually develop in the 19th century. The first Lithuanian-written national history was written by Simonas Daukantas. The main work "Būdas senovės lietuvių, kalnėnų ir žemaičių" was published under a pseudonym in St. Petersburg only in 1845. Daukantas can be considered the founder of modern Lithuanian historiography in the national sense. As Vilnius University was closed after the defeat of the uprising in 1832, the center of higher education of Lithuanians moved to Russian universities. One of this next generation of intellectuals was the main thinker of the Lithuanian national revival, Jonas Basanavičius, who in 1883 became the founder of the first Lithuanian enlightenment magazine Aušra. The debate on the meaning of Lithuanian history and its exclusion from Polish historiography took place at the end of the 19th century more on a journalistic level. The world without borders in S.T. Kondrotas work

Diploma work is focused on the work of a contemporary Lithuanian prose writer Saulius Tomas Kondrotas (1953). His tales and novels are placed into the Lithuanian and world literary context. The impact of magic realism and surrealism is confirmed; an inspiration is found in the work of other authors as F. M. Dostojevskij or W. Faulkner. Kondrotas is appreciated for individual style and topics common for his work, such as a phenomenon of death, detailed recitation, border crossing of common life perception, colourful description. The tales and especially the structure of novels are full of not only biblical, but also pagan and mythy motives.

Novelistic Worlds of Ričardas Gavelis and Milan Kundera: A Comparative Analysis

Key Words: Comparatistics, Intertextuality, Essayism, Esem, Milan Kundera, Ričardas Gavelis, Laughter, Kitsch, Vulgarity, Carnevalism, Thanatos, Sexuality This comparativist thesis discusses the intelectual novel of the end of the 20th century. The study objects chosen for this paper were the works of Ričardas Gavelis and Milan Kundera. Due to the differences in the poetics of the works, it was chosen to analyze four works of each writer's large prose. In the case of Gavelis they are as follows: Vilnius Poker (Vilniaus pokeris, novel, 1989), Vilnius Jazz (Vilniaus džiazas, novel, 1993), The Last Generation of People on Earth (Paskutinioji Žemės žmonių karta, novel, 1995) and Six Ways of Suicide (Septyni savižudybės būdai, novel, 1999). From Kundera's works we picked out The Farewell Party (Valčík na rozloučenou, novel,1972), The Book of Laughter and Forgetting (Knihou smíchu a zapomnění, novel, 1978), The Unbearable Lightness of Being (Nesnesitelnou lehkostí bytí, novel, 1984) a Immortality (Nesmrtelnost in french, 1990, in czech 1993). The handwritten dictionary of lithuanian language from 1st half of 19th century from the Library of the National Museum

Anna Tollarová; The handwritten dictionary of lithuanian language from 1st half of 19th century from the Library of the National Museum Abstract The intention of this work layid on processing, exploration and press-preparation (at least partially) of the handwritten relic, deposited in the Library of the National Museum. This archival document is possible to date to the first half of 19th century and connect it with lithuanistic legacy of František Ladislav Čelakovský. To understand the genesis of this lexicographic project was necessary to compare this dictionary with other work - Wýpisky o gazyku litewském. 1833 (sign.: IX E 4). The defined purpose solved (at least partially) these tasks: 1. To validate or refute authorship of F.L.Čelakovský. Incorporate this handwritten relic to the context of lexicographic and baltoslavic interests of the author. 2. To explore the disposition of Lithuanian dictionary: main intention, role of the dictionary, scope of lexicon, thematic range. To compare notification of the first half of 19th century to knowledge of contemporary lithuanistic. 3. To define the main source used for writing of this lexicographic work. This work continued in modest previous exploration and wants to make a contribution to release this relic to the scientific awareness.
