Gestures and Face Expression in Different Cultures

Následující práce se zabývá problematikou neverbální komunikace v různých kulturách a to především jejími dvěma druhy - gestikou a mimikou. Největší pozornost je soustředěna na analýzu toho, jak je v česky publikované, původní i překladové odborné literatuře pojat výklad o vybraných neverbálních prostředcích v různých kulturách. Práce se zaměřuje převážně na to, nakolik jsou v příslušných publikacích zohledněna kulturní specifika příslušných prostředků, na které kultury je pokládán největší důraz a jaké informace jsou o daných prostředcích sdělovány. Nejprve je popsán samotný pojem neverbální komunikace, poté její druhy, ve stručnosti jejich charakteristika a stěžejní částí celé práce je právě ona zmíněná analýza vybraných publikací, kde bylo primárním úkolem zjistit, jakou měrou se čeští i zahraniční autoři zabývají mezikulturními rozdíly v problematice neverbální komunikace, a co o nich pojednávají. Bakalářská práce Pupils, Language, Communication Attitudes of secondary school pupils towards Standard and Common Czech language Lenka Josífková Abstract This thesis focuses on attitudes of secondary school pupils towards Standard and Common Czech language. The thesis is based on the sociolinguistic theory of attitudes to language in English literature and on the theory of attitudes in Czech linguistics. Key terms for this thesis are theory of language culture, its development and criticism. Those terms lead to the definitiv of the relationship between Standard and Common Czech. Part of the theoretical foundation of this thesis is description of the methods and techniques which are then used in the empirical research. The second part describes the research, which was divided into two parts: the realization of the questionnaire research and follow-up interviews with the pupils. Feedback in Czech Language Courses for Foreigners

This thesis explores teacher's feedback, its definition, types, and is specifically focused on feedback moves in context of teaching Czech as a foreign language. The aim of this thesis is to present current research on the feedback in the context of teaching a second/foreign language and describe how the feedback is used in Czech language courses for foreigners and what instruments teachers use for such purpose. The first part is focusing on the feedback as part of the educational dialogue and communication in the language classroom; introducing some concepts and hypotheses of second language acquisition in which feedback figures. We also provide a description of feedback, both positive and corrective, and we present current studies concerning feedback within language learning. The empirical part carries out conversational analysis of transcribed recordings of participant observation in Czech courses for foreigners, in which we focus on feedback moves of lecturers. The thesis includes glossary explaining relevant terms translated into Czech. Developing socio-cultural competence of students and selected textbooks of Czech for foreigners

The presented thesis focuses on the analysis of selected Czech for foreigners textbooks in terms of socio-cultural competence. In the first three chapters the term of socio-cultural competence is explained and its definition in the Common European Framework of Reference and in the descriptions of reference levels A1, A2, B1 and B2 for Czech is examined. Chapter four deals with a chosen research method - criteria catalogue. In chapter five selected textbooks (Česky, prosím I, Čeština pro cizince: Úroveň B1, Čeština pro cizince: Úroveň B2, Čeština pro středně a více pokročilé, Čeština pro život, Čeština pro život 2, Mluvme česky) are analyzed separately and in chapter six individual results of previous examinations are compared with regard to how the publications contribute to the development of socio-cultural competence of students. 1
Integration of the Vietnamese in the Czech Republic

This thesis deals with the integration of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic which has its specifics and significantly differs from the integration of other foreigners living in the Czech Republic. The characteristics of the Vietnamese community are for example the high percentage of those who live here on the permanent residence permit, then very low unemployment and at last the majority of the community is doing their own business on the trade licence. The other important part is the issue of the acquisition of knowledge of the Czech language. The theoretical part of the thesis firstly defines the number of Vietnamese living in the Czech Republic, historical development of this community and their characteristics. The dissertation deals with the issues of student assessment, namely classification by means of marks and verbal assessment. As a form of student assessment an approach based on the synthesis of both forms is also considered. In the theoretical part of the dissertation assessment in general, school assessment and its special characteristics, positive and negative assessment, types and functions of assessment are defined. The dissertation is mainly concerned with the issues of forms of assessment, their benefits and negative aspects. When discussing verbal assessment, the possibilities of its use are described, its different forms are distinguished, attention is paid to the question of formulating verbal assessment. Russian-speaking community in the Czrech Republic

This master thesis explores the process of integration of the group of 5 russian- speakers in the Czech republic. In the first part of the thesis the theoretical terms connected with the integration of foreigners are introduced. The migration policy of state, bias and stereotypes or language aspect of integration is mentioned. The second part of the thesis contains the report of the research. At first chosen methods of language biography and follow- up interview are characterized here. Their analysis and interpretation of particular speakers follows. At the end of the thesis the results are sum up and the integration tendencies of speakers are decribed here.

This thesis deals with the way of use of children and children elements in commercials, promoting products for children, services that children can use and the products used to care for them. For this purpose, the advertising material was systematically collected. Subsequently, it was analyzed with focus on selected thematic areas: use of cartoon (animated) characters, animals and toys in advertising, use of child in advertising, specifics of the language of advertising and the strategies of communications in advertising. The theoretical part of this thesis first briefly deals with advertising in general terms. However, with regard to the aim of the thesis, it is focused on children's recipients of mediated communication as a specific target group. In the second part of the thesis, the analysis of the collected advertising material is processed. Specific characters and specific roles of the participants, communication methods and strategies of advertising creators are identified in detail. All statements referred in this thesis are verified on the particular examples of advertising. Key words: children, advertising, media education
