New trends in the treatment of diabetes
Vodrážková, Tereza ; Vopršalová, Marie (advisor) ; Melicharová, Ludmila (referee)
Diabetes mellitus is the name for the group of chronic diseases, which are manifested as malfuction metabolism of saccharides. It's one of the oldest global disease. 200 milions people, both sexes and all age bracket suffer from it. Diabetes is dividing in DM I.type, which attack 7% of patiens, and DM II.type, which rises from a lot of stress, unhealthy food and absence of sport activities. The objective of diabetes treatment is early diagnosis, which can prevent the expansion of severe insulin deficiency, resistence of insulin and other metabolic disorders. Diabetic treatment includes pharmacology treatment - with insulin and peroral antidiabetics, and unpharmacology treatment, which cooperate with drugs in reducing morbidity and mortality. My dissertation specializes in new types, new production technology and new styles of aplication insulin to the body. It's also targeted the description of new groups of peroral antidiabetics, especially their development and clinical testing. Treatment of diabetes also involves transplantation of pancreas and therapy by steam-cells, which is still only in phase of clinical trials. To good compensation of DM contribute phytoterapy, diabetic diet and recommended sport activities.

Children Running Away from Facilities Providing Institutionalized and Protective Child Care
Houfková, Aneta ; Čedík, Miloslav (advisor) ; Zelinková, Olga (referee)
Numbers of cases of children running away from children care and protective care institutions in the Czech Republic have increased over past years. However, not enough attention is given to the topic of runaways. The goal of this paper is to introduce running away in broader theoretical perspectives and to explore methods of work with runaway children. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the definition of running away and presents the model of runaway process, types of runaways, consequences of runaway behavior, and recommended intervention methodologies. It also presents a brief characteristics of children in children and protective care institutions and legal framework of the system. In the research part of the paper contents of 11 semi-structured interviews with workers and representatives of children and protective care institutions were analyzed, coded and grouped by topics and categories. Coaching - the part of professional development
Říhová, Jana ; Bahbouh, Radvan (referee) ; Wagnerová, Irena (advisor)
This work deals with subject of coaching as a part of the professional development. The first part is devoted to the theoretical initial data of the coaching. There are summarily described definitions that can be found in specialized literature. A strong attention has been given also to historical and philosophical principles of coaching. Having presented this essential information the work defines coaching compared with its related branches as consultancy, training, mentoring or psychotherapy. In a separate chapter, the process of coaching, its principles, stages and basic models have been treated. Two main types of coaching are mentioned in brief. A more extensive chapter has been dedicated to the personality characteristics of a coach and his function depending on his position in the company. Conclusion of the first part is focused on questions of ethics in the coaching process. The second half of this work is represented by a practical part describing two research studies - a qualitative and a quantitative. In the course of the qualitative research there have been obtained information and opinions on coaching in semi-structured interviews from the leading Czech coaches. The quantitative research is focused on analysis of efficiency perception of the coaching as a method by persons that took use of it in...

People versus cormorants
Ulrychová, Michala ; Haluzík, Radovan (advisor) ; Lhota, Stanislav (referee)
Great Cormorant belongs to those animal species, whose feeding habits are in conflict with economic interests of humans. As predator feeding entirely on fish, Great Cormorants in Europe had been nearly hunted to extinction in the past and therefore classified as endangered species in 20th century. Because of conservation efforts and other positive factors involved, its numbers increased unprecedented and its distribution expanded across all Europe. From the early eighties ideal conditions for breeding were found also in Trebonsko Protected Land Area (PLA) in Southern Bohemia. Trebonsko is not only PLA but has been also known as center of Czech pond culture for many centuries. Appearance of Great Cormorant stirred up conflict between conservationist and fishermen, who suffered a financial loss. Purpose of this work was to approach background of this conflict and to present attitudes and opinions of all concerned parties. The study starded with media search and a set of questionnaires was completed by different groups as professional fishermen, conservationist, game fishermen, local citizens and tourists visiting the PLA. These questionnaires were qualitatively analyzed afterwards. Results revealed that the problem is not simply the controversy between fisherman and conservationists if the Great Cormorant...

Prevention of Cervical Cancer
Kafková, Simona ; Šafář, Petr (advisor)
Cervical cancer is a disease characterized by an abnormal growth of cells in the uterine cervix. It is caused by an infection with a range of high risk oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) and it is now accepted that more that 99 % of the cervical cancer is initiated by the HPV infection. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted viral disease. Most of the HPV infections are only temporary and human organism can destroy the infection with its own immune response. A persistent infection can lead to the malign transformation and an uncontrolled cell proliferation. There are more than 10 years between an epithelial infection and cervical cancer. Prevention of cervical cancer includes an HPV protection, an early diagnosis and a treatment. In spite of the fact that there has been enormous progress in the area of the cervical cancer prevention when vaccination against the most common HPV types was discovered, an early precancerous diagnosis through the use of the full-area screening still remains an essential precaution. The screening still needs to be provided not only to unvaccinated women but also to the immunized ones because current vaccines protect only against 80% of the oncogenic HPV types. Because of the prolonged absence of clinical symptoms in precancerous stages, the cytodiagnosis is the only method...

Steps towards the development of an in vitro assay of early endosome fusion
Švédová, Lucie ; Kučerová, Marta (advisor) ; Čečková, Martina (referee)

Complications in gynaecologic endoscopic surgery - prevention of complications
Balíčková, Miroslava ; Kučera, Eduard (advisor)
This thesis submits retrospective analytic study evaluating peroperation and early postoperation complications of laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH). The aim of this thesis was to find out: what peroperation and early postoperation complications of LAVH occur on patient file to analyze individual types of complications on patient file to compare the results of retrospective study with national indications (with the help of national register of complications of gynaecological laparoscopy) discuss possible prevention of the most severe complications of LAVH The text part is devoted to indications and contraindications of laparoscopic operation, and complications that may occur during operation and describes the execution of laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy. The information necessary for the thesis is based on operation records of patients operated in the years 2000 - 2004 in ÚPMD. Data shown are processed with the aim to answer to the questions mentioned above. Further in the thesis there are presented the results of the study and their evaluation. The peroperation or early postoperation complications occurred in cases of 154 (39%)...

Gentrification: Particularities and Intricacies of the Process in the Case Study of Harlem, New York City
Grünová, Gabriela ; Calda, Miloš (advisor) ; French, William Giles (referee)
The quantitative and qualitative analysis of gentrification in the neighborhood of Harlem in New York City revealed the complexity of the whole process. The process of gentrification in this case study is not a coherent transformation of a neighborhood. Similarly, gentrifiers of different races and classes arriving in the area cannot be denoted by one term of middle-class or affluent people because of the variety of their backgrounds and origins. The process of gentrification in Harlem has so far occurred in three successive waves. The first wave can be characterized by small numbers of urban pioneers arriving in Harlem and making the neighborhood more attractive for further newcomers. This wave of the late 1970s and early 1980s was described in the study of Schaffer and Smith. However, given the insignificant amounts of urban pioneers acting as gentrifiers in the area, they seriously doubted the possibility of gentrification reaching its momentum in Harlem. Yet, after two decades, more precisely in the late 1990s, the second wave of gentrification took place in Harlem. The quantitative analysis of the census data concerning housing and racial composition of the neighborhood proved why the tentative conclusions of this particular study do not apply. One of the predictions of Schaffer and Smith insisted on...

The case of weirs: Media discourse analysis
Vaňhalová, Adéla ; Kabele, Jiří (advisor) ; Vodáková, Alena (referee)
The author was concerned with the media discourse of the theme of weirs on the river Labe in newspapers MF Dnes and Ústecký deník during the period of ten years. The used methods were quantitative and qualitative content analyses. Emphasis was placed on the types of arguments used in the discourse and also on the means of argumentation [Schopenhauer 1991, Weston 2001]. Analysis discovered two basic kinds of discourse: expert and emotional. To both of these discourses were linked special kinds of means of argumentation. The expert discourse was constructed as a pure and fair argument. The emotional discourse was constructed as an insidious argument. The main conclusion derived from the analysis was about the game frames [Goffman 1999] of two sides in discourse: advocates and opponents of the weirs. To the advocates was ascribed expert economic discourse which created their dominant game frame. The advocates persuade the public about their truth through economic discourse. The opponents were first constructed as dominant in the game frame of expert ecological discourse. During time their ecological game frame was redefined by the advocates and lost its persuading power. The opponents found new game frame: "petition" political discourse. "Petition" political discourse is till now the dominant game frame of the...
