Relationship of poverty and conflict in international affairs
Gabriel, David ; Dubský, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Druláková, Radka (referee)
This master thesis focuses on a relationship between poverty and conflict. The aim is to analyze poverty as a potential cause of internal conflict. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part discusses the multidimensional character of poverty, the nature of a nexus between poverty and conflict and introduces modern concepts of economic causes of conflict. The second part tests if higher personal income reduces the probability of internal conflict to emerge. Both phenomena are transformed into a simple mathematical function in order to test their nexus. Characteristics of both regional and universal nature of their relationship are scrutinized. Finally, poverty is not universally believed to be a major cause of civil conflicts. However, poverty is suggested to be a major cause of internal conflicts if personal income is not high enough to satisfy basic human meets. The level of violence, under which conflicts are likely to emerge, is believed to be set at the level of 2$ (of daily income). #English version of the thesis is available per request.#

Modelling of flow over a backward-facing step in streams with various turbulence level
Příhoda, Jaromír ; Sedlář, M.
Turbulent flow over a backward-facing step in streams with a various turbulence level was numerically simulated using software ANSYS CFX-5. Numerical solution carried on with the two-equation SST model and/or with a k-omega based Reynolds stress model was compared with experimental data obtained for three different values of free-stream turbulence level. The predicted length of the recirculation region corresponds well with experimental data but the dependence of the ratio xr/h on free-stream turbulence level is smaller.

My bachelor's dissertation is mainly focused on mapping the possibilities of implementing activities in the field of employment support for handicapped people in the small region of Opočensko, which is situated in the Královéhradecký region. I analyze current needs of handicapped people expressed through other social and educational service providers and also the state of the local social service market. I map the state of community and strategic planning of the towns Dobruška, Nové Město nad Metují, Opočno and the Královéhradecký region. The summary of its present progress and outputs concerning mainly the state and planned development of social services is further used for more specific definition of the activity of Dílny Tvořivosti nonprofit organization branch in the small region and for framing a draft of a proposed project directly addressing the local situation. In this way I have reached, as I firmly believe, a qualified decision that Dílny tvořivosti can offer its present experience in the field of supporting integration of people threatened with social exclusion and contribute to the solution of current issues of the region in this field.
