Simple Experiments with Naturally Occurring Materials in ChemistryEducation: Support of Empirical Method and Development of Related Competences
Böhmová, Hana ; Martínek, Václav (advisor) ; Smrček, Stanislav (referee) ; Vasileská, Marie (referee)
173 Summary The doctoral thesis is focused on the problem of gaining empirical knowledge in chemistry education, on the acquirement of related competences, and on the activities which would contribute to the improvements in chemistry education in this area. The aims set in the first part of the thesis were fulfilled. I have confirmed the insufficient level of the competences acquirement among the Czech students, such as formulation and verification of a hypothesis, planning and carrying out a simple experiment, interpretation of collected data or drawing conclusions. Main cause of this problem could be insufficient opportunity to develop these competences in school chemistry (or science) education at ground and high school level. Experimental activities of individual students are rare in Czech chemistry lessons. The teachers quote that the main problem responsible for this situation is missing equipment for practical activities in their schools and absence of suitable school experiments reflecting the given safety directives. Considering these findings, I have created a set of simple chemistry experiments utilizing natural products and substances The experiments are suitable for the individual work of students and for chemistry education even at schools without a laboratory or special science classroom....

Czech grammar schools, their students and teachers, 1867-1918
Řezníčková, Kateřina ; Hlavačka, Milan (advisor) ; Lenderová, Milena (referee) ; Rýdl, Karel (referee)
This thesis examines the development, character and routine of an ordinary day of Czech middle schools. The first chapter outlines the changes in middle school education throughout the 'long' 19th Century. The summary of these changes begins at the end of the 18th Century, the time of the educational reforrns introduced by Maria Theresa and Joseph II, and is followed by a brief summary of the changes in the first half of the 19th Century. Detailed research has been done into the history of middle schools, from 1848 (from Bonitz-Exner Outline, a fundamental document which influenced changes in the educational system for many years) until the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The main focus is on the period from 1867; this year was the catalyst for the major development of Czech middle schools. Briefly mentioned are the changes and restrictions caused by the First World War; there is also a section dedicated to middle school education for girls. The second chapter concentrates on specific areas of middle school education, such as: who studied, and on what terrns; programmes of study; the curriculum of individua! subjects. The structure of the school year and the daily school time-table is also examined. Detailed study has been made of marking and the context and demands of final exams. Furtherrnore,...

Crosscurricular aspects in Physics seminars
Čípová, Magdaléna ; Lustigová, Zdena (advisor) ; Mandíková, Dana (referee)
The thesis opens up the current topics and recent results of both experimental and theoretical physics in a connection to other disciplines belonging to so called natural science (biology, chemistry) and also information and communication technologies. It uses an attractive and understandable form of learning objects - students' projects, worksheets, or lists for teachers. The thesis involves the theoretical part with explanation of two education methods - inquiry-based learning (IBL) and problem-based learning (PBL) and also practical part with 5 topics - 3D vision, LCD monitors, luminiscence, microwave and pi-water. All of them are composed of information for teachers and of the worksheets for students. It is addressed to high school students.

Educational project for popularization of chemistry at secondary school
Šedivá, Renata ; Zákostelná, Barbora (referee) ; Šulcová, Renata (advisor)
Charles University in Prague - Faculty of Science Department of Teaching and Didactics of Chemistry Prague 2010 Bachelors Thesis Educational project for popularization of chemistry at secondary school Renata Šedivá Submitted thesis is proposal for Educational project for popularization of chemistry at secondary school. It should inspire and motivate teachers of chemistry to file such project into the education and help them with preparing and realization of the project. The proposal consists of time and content schedule of the project and of ten chosen experiments, to which were created protocols. Every log sheet contents list of chemicals and laboratory aids, work procedure, principle of the experiment, notes and recommendations. The thesis is completed with the photos and video documentation of realization of the project which takes place on DVD in appendix. The project is intended for students interested in chemistry or school chemistry workshops. The product of the project is presentation of experiments to younger students, who should be motivated to study chemistry.

Pests of greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes - informative and educational database
DOUL, Lukáš
Diploma work is based on constructing of electronic informative system about greenhouse growns damaging pests - growtheal vegetables, concretely forced on forwarding cucumbers and tomatoes. The aim of diploma work is to make out the given information system with division of pests according to kind of the growth, place of damage and integrated locator of pests based on their Czech or Latin title, eventually based on information about pests and bioagens. The system contains detailed information about individual pests, their bionomii, enlargement and protection, including the biological protection. A part of this informative system is a large number of photographs of individual pests, biological preparations or injured plants with apparent symptoms.
