The relationship between banking sector development and innovation activities in countries in the European Union from 2010 to 2020
Le, Doanh Tuan
This paper examines the influences of EU banking sector development on innovation activities with the empirical evidence taking from 24 selected EU countries in the period of 11 years from 2010 to 2020. The sample of data is collected as secondary data and inserted into the linear regression model under the form of a dynamic short panel data. The chosen research method is called the two-step system GMM. The findings reveal that the growth of an EU country’s banking system supports its innovation activities. Moreover, this research also extends the positive impacts of an EU country’s financial markets development on its innovative-related activities.
Determination of Factors Affecting Wage Differentiation in the EU Countries
Kocurová, Tamara
This thesis aims to identify the determinants of wage differentiation in the EU countries using panel data analysis. The literature review provides an overview of the theoretical background of the topic, previous studies on wage differences, the current situation of wage differentiation in the European Union, and the potential determinants and consequences of wage differentiation. The analysis reveals that wages are influenced by various potential variables. However, the application of factor analysis led to the identification of significant factors, namely the economic strength of a country, the level of digitization and working conditions, investment, and the unemployment rate. These findings are consistent with the existing literature. The conclusion offers recommendations for increasing wages based on the research results.
Fiscal Decentralization and Economic Growth in EU Countries: Role of Institutional Mechanisms
Ting, Ka Yee ; Young, Mitchell (advisor) ; Bruno, Randolph Luca (referee) ; Svoboda, Karel (referee)
In the past three decades, there is a growing trend of conducting fiscal decentralization in both transition countries and developed countries. The primary reason for this interest is the theoretical prediction that fiscal decentralization could promote economic development through enhancing or improving the efficiency of the public sector. Despite general acceptance of the contribution of fiscal decentralization to economic growth in theoretical literature, none of the previous fiscal decentralization studies have been successfully verified the growth effect of fiscal decentralization. Moreover, a majority of the empirical research analyzes the relationship without taking institutional factors into consideration, which may result in a biased conclusion. Utilizing fixed effects panel data regression models, this thesis is dedicated to examining the impact of fiscal decentralization on economic growth across 27 EU countries over the period 1995-2015. It first analyzes how the effect of fiscal decentralization on economic growth could differ in Western European (WE) and Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries. Then, it examines the complementarity between fiscal decentralization and well-established institutional mechanism in enhancing economic growth in these two groups of EU countries by...
Nerovnosť v príjmoch obyvateľov ako determinant ekonomického rastu krajiny
Kocurová, Tamara
In this bachelor thesis is examined the dependence of economic performance and economic growth of the country on income inequality, based on data collected upon EU countries. The literature overview describes the income inequality, its causes, development, impact and possible solutions to its reduction. Regression and cluster analysis was used to determine the dependence. The thesis shows that income inequality has a negative impact on the country’s GDP, but its impact on economic growth is not clear.

Lešková, Tereza ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Vykoukal, Jiří (referee)
The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to find out the impact of access of the Czech Republic to European Union on the Czech international trade. At the beginning the work describes the development of foreign trade in terms of commodity structure and also of territorial structure. In the case of commodity structure, goods are divided into SITC groups. Next part of the thesis focuses on the development of trade with major trading partners from European Union countries. It also describes the trade relations of the Czech Republic with the original members of the EU, with the subsequent members and third countries, as a part of this chapter there are described most of the tariff, non-tariff and contractual tools of Czech trade policy before access to the EU. The next chapter describes common EU trade policy, which the Czech Republic had to implement. Regarding the trade of Czech Republic with BRIC countries, the work describes mainly the development of trade relations and its impact on the trade balance of the Czech Republic.
Comparison of mortality in the Czech Republic and in other countries of the European Union
Tětěruková, Šárka ; Fiala, Tomáš (advisor) ; Miskolczi, Martina (referee)
The theme of the bachelor thesis is comparing the mortality in the Czech Republic to other countries in the European Union between 1960 and 2010. In the introductory part fundamental indicators and calculations related to the mortality are described. An important part of the bachelor thesis is focused on the analysis of infant mortality evolution (without distinction of gender) and life expectancy at birth, at the ages of 25 and 65 (with the distinction of each gender). States are divided into 4 observed groups -- "west", "north", "east" and "south". This division of European states was acquired from United Nations (UN), which uses it for statistical purposes. The main source of data for processing the graphs is the Human Mortality Database, missing data is completed from the Eurostat's database. Finally, a prediction of life expectancy at birth is carried out up to the year 2080, based on the projection of population development from Eurostat's database in 2013. The thesis provides comprehensive information about the dissimilarity of mortality in the defined groups of states.

Deliberation of the final state accounts in selected countries: Study 1.208
