The phenomenon of writers committing suicide
Bechyňová, Laura ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor) ; Najbrtová, Kristina (referee)
This bachelor thesis discusses the phenomenon of writers commiting suicide. Firstly, the theoretical part describes suicide as a psychological phenomenon and presents the risk factors and forms of suicidal behaviour. Great attention is given to the relation between creativity, mental disorders and suicide. Viewegh's concept of bilance suicide among writers is also presented, followed by various research projects focusing on the possible causes of writers taking their own lives. Various studies show that there is a higher percentage of suicide among writers, and especially among poets, than among other artistic careers. The key question of this thesis is whether or not is this "suicidal language" of writers displayed in their works. The psychological analysis of a literary work (e.g. linguistic predictor of suicide) is dedicated to finding answers to this question. Lastly, the limits of previous studies are presented at the end of the theoretical part of this thesis. The empirical part presents a proposal of a research project which aims to replicate previous study on prose texts. Possible limits of this research design as well as possible further research proposals are presented in the discussion. Keywords: suicide, creativity, mental disorders, writers, linguistic predictor of suicide

Title of the Bachelor's Thesis: Hamburg, a culture city Abstract: My bachelor thesis focuses on Hamburg, the second biggest city of Germany, from the cultural point of view. The thesis is based mainly on the studying of the professional literature, some information I also found on the internet. A great help for me were also the interviews with experts, workers from the Czech Republic or Germany, which are to some extent involved in the Hamburg theater scene. They gave me useful advices. Photographic documentation I made during a visit to Hamburg. In my thesis I thoroughly analyzed the cultural scene in Hamburg and I came to the conclusion that the city plays in fields such as literature, media, theatre, music or education a very important and irreplaceable role not only in Germany but also in the whole of northern Europe.
