The paintings in the cloister of St. Wenceslas Church in the context of wall paintings at the turn of the 16th century in Olomouc
Haragová, Vladěna ; Ottová, Michaela (advisor) ; Royt, Jan (referee)
The first part of the paper deals with the mural paintings on a Christological theme decorating the northern and eastern walls of the High Gothic ambulatory, which is a part of the National cultural monument Přemyslid Castle. Last Judgement, Annunciation, Adoration of the Magi and Adoration of the Shepherds are depicted on the northern side of the cloister. On the opposite wall between the windows there is a representation of two donators. The eastern front of the ambulatory is decorated with scenes depicting the Crucifixion, Lamentation, Resurrection and Christ with the Arma Christi. Paintings are dated successively from the late 15th century to the first two decades of the 16th century. The different dating of paintings, of course, demonstrates various inspirational sources. The study also reflects many recent discoveries that reveal the origins of the decoration of the cloister. These paintings were probably commissioned by members of the Olomouc Chapter, who were in close contact with Humanistic Societas Maierhofiana. Further the paper focuses on the wall paintings in the John the Baptist' Chapel, where the scenes adorn not only the walls, but also the vault of the eastern field. The frescos were probably created between 1493 and 1517 by the hands of several painters.

Gothic Fashion in the Czech Lands in the 14th Century. Development of Clothing Features in the Czech Lands in the Years 1330 -1410
Kuběnová, Veronika ; Sládková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Těšínská Lomičková, Radka (referee)
1 ABSTRACT This thesis presents a study of a field of everyday culture - medieval fashion and its development during the reign of Charles IV of Luxembourg and his son Wenceslas in the Czech lands in the years 1330 - 1410. As these fashion trends and changes were exhibited primarily through the clothing of nobility, this thesis focuses exclusively on the environs of the aristocracy and royal court. In addition to written sources and archaeological finds, the fine arts also serve to advance our knowledge of Gothic fashion trends, whose works authentically capture the contemporary clothing styles and changes in all of Europe. This thesis therefore examines, through a methodical analysis, how wall paintings, panel paintings and book illuminations of Czech provenance reflect changes in clothing fashions and tastes in courtly environs during the period of time known as Luxembourg Gothic. This study of primary iconographic sources in authentic historical buildings and galleries was further aided by the creation of an extensive photo archive. This thesis presents a representative sampling of the works from this archive which documents a basic transformation of Czech clothing culture and the creation of a Bohemian style of Gothic fashion, culminating at the turn of the 14th and 15th century and enriching European...

Murals in the church of the Holy Cross in Ronov – continuation
Všetečková, Zuzana
Wall paintigs in the church in Ronov (Protivany) published by M. Stránská in the 1983. Problematic of her commissioned by Světlík of Lichenburk has mentioned as doubtful Jan Urban in 2003. The iconography of murals showes probably inspiration of some monk of cistercian monastery (for example: St Bernhard of Clairveaux, St Dionysius, Martyrdom of Ysaias, St George, standing on the body of the Emperor Dacian. Georg is depicting as knigt in the sens miles christiani.). The culture influences we can see in circle of Sibyla of Křižanov, who is coming to the Czech countries with the Queen Kunigunde of Staufe dynasty, the wife of King Wenceslas I. of Přemyslid, in early 13th century. Stylistic viewpoint of the figures show analogy with the art of late romanesque art, probably of the early of 13th century. Maybe murals were painted in conection with Crusades, they were supported also by Bernhard of Clairveaux.

Origin, composition and stability of copper pigments in wall paintings
Švarcová, Silvie ; Bezdička, Petr ; Hradil, David
Blue and green copper pigments occur in a wide range of chemically close, although mineralogically different species, which makes their proper identification nontrivial. Furthermore, they can be of various origins – natural, artificial or formed as a result of corrosion of another copper pigment. The degradation of copper pigments is a serious problem in case of artworks exposed to corrosive environment, such as wall paintings or exterior stone polychromes. In this paper, we document the variability of copper pigments used in history on examples of selected wall paintings. The problem of origin and stability of copper pigments in wall paintings is solved using advanced microanalytical investigation of paint layers together with the laboratory experiments. Microanalytical features documenting natural or artificial origin of copper pigments as well as their secondary changes caused by corrosive environment are shown and discussed.

The history, reconstruction and use of culture monument (The case study of the auditorium Gymnázium Benešov)
Pokorný, Matyáš ; Heřmanová, Eva (advisor) ; Tyslová, Irena (referee)
Gymnasium Benešov is a very significant educational institucion in the city. Its history is closely linked to the order of piarists, who came into the city in the early of the 18th century. They established a colliage here and started a school teaching. The existence of the order then played a very important part in cultural development of the city and its inhabitants. In 1907 a new neo-renaissance building was constucted for this institucion, because the number of students was ever growing. One part of the new building was a baroque chapel with seccesion wall paintings. During the last century these paintings met a very complicated but remarkable history. The central themes of these paintings were strongly religiously oriented and were therefore in conflict with political power, which came after the Communist revolution in February 1948. So it happened that they were painted over and for several decades disappeared from the world. They disappeared, but were not lost nor completely forgotten, under a layer of white paint they only rested, waiting patiently for the day of their re-discovering. It eventually took place in the reconstruction of the chapel, which was carried out in the school year 2006/2007 on the occasion of the building's centennial celebrations. Let us now together in the footsteps of the reconstruction, let us examine what preceded it, what diffficulties it met and what results it finally brought.
