Making data in PhD dissertations reusable for research

How can an academic library contribute to make data submitted together with PhD dissertations useful for further research? Our paper provides some recommendations for information professionals, based on a review of studies and projects and on empirical evidence from a content analysis of data sources and types from 300 print and digital dissertations in social sciences and humanities (1987–2013) and a survey on data management conducted with more than 300 scientists and PhD students in April and May 2015 on the Lille campus.

Legal aspects of primary scientific results

This contribution focuses on the legal aspects of raw grey literature that is understood as yet to be published, interim or incomplete scientific results like raw primary data or drafts of scientific articles. Specifically the contribution deals with two problematic areas: 1) liability for damages resulting from inadequate (or even forbidden) use of the results and possibilities of limitation thereof; 2) ownership of such grey literature and contractual possibility to dispose therewith after it has been offered to official publication (i.e. the copyright issues of pre-prints, post-prints and publisher’s edition).

OA to scientifi c publications and research data in Horizon 2020

During presentation titled “OA to scientific publications and research data in Horizon 2020” reasons for introducing obligation on OA to scientifi c information in Horizon 2020 will be presented together with description of steps on how to fulfill the said obligation. Speaker will also talk about relevant legal aspects of OA as well as OA news and updates as seen from the speaker´s perspective acting as national contact point for legal aspects of Horizon 2020 and national point of reference for scientific information.

Repository workflow for interlinking research data with grey literature

Publishing data is more and more considered as part of the research process. While funder mandates and journal policies demand the disclosure of research data at the time of article publication there is still a lack of guidelines and workflows to reference data from grey literature. Based on multidisciplinary examples found in our repository “PUB” we present a user friendly generalized framework for interlinking research data with grey literature. This way, we are not only increasing the number of “grey” non-textual research outputs – including data publications – but also foster awareness of its sharing and re-use in scientific communities.

GreyForum 3.1 – Policy Development – the Pisa Declaration

Workshop GreyForum 3.1, ISTI-CNR Italy, Pisa 5. - 8. 4. 2014, Itálie. Za NTK se workshopu zúčastnila PhDr. Petra Pejšová z oddělení 46, která v rámci "Participant Showcase" session prezentovala projekt EOD. Workshop se zabýval politikou rozvoje šedé literatury směrem k open accessu, open data, open standarts, open science, jejímž výsledkem bude – the Pisa Declaration. Workshop byl spolupořádán s OpenAIRE - databáze, která je podporována Evropskou komisí pro ukládání výstupů z ní dotovaných projektů. Na workshopu byla příležitost prodiskutovat politiku OpenAIR v souvislosti s NUŠL. Dále zde byla příležitost osobně oslovit přednášející na podzimní Konferenci o šedé literatuře a repozitářích, kterou pořádá NTK.

Enhancing scholarly communication: National initiatives to manage research data in the V4 countries

The publication describes the project Enhancing scholarly communication: National initiatives to manage research data in V4 countries. The main goal of the project was a survey about state of research data management, repository contents, services and archiving policies in colleges, universities and research institutions on national levels. The survey was conducted in Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Poland.

Evaluation Report of Conference on Grey Literature and Repositories 2014

Národní technická knihovna (NTK) uspořádala 7. ročník Konference o šedé literatuře a repozitářích. Prostřednictvím této akce je zajištěna českému publiku prezentace informací a aktualit o šedé literatuře v ČR i v zahraničí a příbuzných tématech. Konference se uskutečnila 22. října 2014 v Ballingově sále v Národní technické knihovně v Praze. K získání informací o názorech a spokojenosti účastníků konference vyl opět použit evaluační dotazník (viz. Příloha č. 2). Výsledky z dotazníků byly využity ke zhodnocení této akce a ke zlepšení přípravy, organizace a obsahové náplně příštího ročníku konference.

Enhanced publications in the Czech Republic

The aim of this article is to introduce the notion of enhanced publications to the Czech audience. Enhanced publications are a new type of scholarly publishing. This concerns extra materials linked with electronic publications, such as research data, models, algorithms, figures, metadata, postpublication data (e.g. commentaries) and other items. The article includes a presentation of a survey of the state of enhanced publications in Czech research institutions.

Survey of Enhanced publications in the Czech Republic

The poster presents survey about the state of enhanced publications in the Czech Republic. The goal of this survey was to find out situation of enhanced publications at research institutions in the Czech Republic. What research data arise? How are they stored and archived? To whom they made available? Are there the real enhanced publications, i.e. research publications linked directly to research data? 113 Czech research institutions were contacted with online questionnaire during 11th September to 7th October 2013. The poster will show the results from 65 Czech research institutions which filled in the questionnaire.
