The core of the work is to provide a deep insight into organizational and personal structure of the party and to analyse party's policy statements. The 1979 ended Labour Party's government performance for a long time. The aim of this work is to observe organizational as well as ideological changes by which the party reacts to its own unsatisfactory electoral results. Finding the reasons why approved modifications did not help the party to win general elections is absolutely crucial. The period before 1979 including the description of international situation and electoral change is described in the opening part to outline initial conditions of further observed stretch of time. Afterwards particular periods between general elections are presented themselves. A full image of problems pursuing labours between 1979 and 1994 is given by analysing manifestos, organization of the party, development of pre-election campaigns and public opinion. The one of the main cause leading to the long-term lack of success was voter's displeasing experience with the last government of the Labour Party. Economic problems profoundly connected with the stagflation, repeated strikes and culminating into...

Influence of unemployment to electoral results of extremistic parties: Southern Europe vs. Central Europe
Zoul, Zdeněk ; Rod, Aleš (advisor) ; Čermáková, Klára (referee)
Thesis examines influence of unemployment on the electoral results of extremistic and radical parties in parliamentary elections in several European countries from 2000 to 2010. By using fixed effects model on panel data collected on regional level it was found that in Czech Republic, Hungary and Spain higher levels of unemployment lead to higher elactoral success of radical and extremistic parties. However in Greece and Slovakia such a influence turned out as insignificant. Also hypothesis of typical voter of such parties was tested. It is commonly accepted that typical voter of extremistic parties is young man with lower education. This hypothesis can't be confirmed in any of examined countries.
How unemployment affects the behavior of voters?
Kdolská, Veronika ; Lahvička, Jiří (advisor) ; Brožová, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis deals with the influence of unemployment on the voting behavior of citizens. It mainly focuses on the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of Czech Republic in 2006 and 2010. The fixed effects method was applied to the panel data using 133 territorial units. Through the application of models I found that the increase of unemployment by 1 percentage point will increase the share of votes for left-wing parties by 0.23 percentage point within the valid votes cast, while the increase of the proportion of votes for right-wing parties is 0.48 percentage point. Unemployment decreases the share of votes for the centerist and small parties. That indicates that unemployment polarizes electorate towards large parties. The results show that the unemployment is slightly more advantageous for the right, but has no significant effect on the election results. Its effect on voter turnout was not proven. Other results indicate that "nicer" weather during elections diverts electorate from small and centrist parties.
