Pupils' perception of maps

The diploma thesis focuses on pupils' map perception and its main objective is to characterize how sixth-grade pupils perceive visuals that resemble maps in their appearance or characteristics, or are defined as maps according to commonly used definitions. The theoretical part of the thesis explains in detail the concept of maps in foreign and Czech literature, but also in geography textbooks for the sixth grade of elementary schools. An important part of the theoretical part is also the description of mental map schemata, which were presented in detail by the American geographer A. MacEachren in his book How Maps Work. A total of 22 respondents from three elementary schools participated in the research. The selected pupils took part in approximately fifteen-minute interviews, in which they first described what they think a map is, and then decided whether the presented visuals were maps or not, providing their reasoning for their decisions. A total of 15 visuals were presented, which were selected based on the previous analysis of the literature. The results of the research showed that the used geography textbook and the teaching style of the teacher influence how pupils perceive maps. Pragmatics Aspects in Czech Language Textbooks for Elementary Schools

The topic of this thesis is communicative competence and pragmatic aspects in Czech language textbooks at elementary schools. Education aims to achieve six key competencies, including communicative competence. The thesis's theoretical part focuses on defining concepts such as pragmatics, gender, politeness, cooperative communication, dialogue, argumentation, and manipulation. In the practical part, the thesis analyses five third-year Czech language textbooks and examines to what extent pragmatic aspects are included in the textbooks. The research has shown that although pragmatic aspects are included in the textbooks, their level is not sufficient in most cases, and it is necessary to supplement these topics with additional supporting materials. The outcome of this work could be useful for Czech language teachers at the first level of primary schools who intend to focus on developing their pupils' communicative competence and improving their pragmatic communication skills. The presented bachelor thesis deals with the topic of creating teaching texts and textbooks. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses the methodology of creating textbooks, including the views of several experts on the creation of text-books. The practical part deals with the creation of a textbook for professional mechanical training in the field of programming CNC machine tools. The construc-tion of the textbook is derived from curricular documents. Then follows the crea-tion of materials, pictures and the creation of the teaching text itself. As an appen-dix there is one prepared presentation and one chapter for teaching one topic.

This bachelor thesis is focused on the comparison of the teaching of industrial geography at the lower secondary level in the Czech Republic and England. The theoretical part provides an overview of educational systems and educational documents of the Czech Republic and England with emphasis on the role of geography at lower secondary education. It also outlines a basic theoretical overview of the geography of industry and new trends in this topic, which are addressed by a research of literature. The practical part is focused on the analysis of 6 geography textbooks for lower secondary education by using two partial analyzes. The first analysis observes didactic equipment of textbooks. The second analysis is the content analysis split into the analysis of thematic units of industrial geography and the analysis of concepts from the field of new trends in industrial geography.
Adjectives and pronouns in textbooks for the second stage of primary school

The topic of this bachelor thesis is comparing the educational contents on adjectives and pronouns in the current Czech language higher primary school student books. The objective of this thesis is to identify the potential differences in didactic application of the above-mentioned parts of speech and their acquisition at higher primary school. The introductory chapters will be dedicated to the basic terminology. They will be followed by the anchorage of the topic within the curricular documents of the Czech educational system. The following part will analyse and compare the content of adjectives and pronouns. The theoretical base point consisted of the chosen current works from the area of didactics and Czech grammar. The thesis will use both, the empirical-analytical approach as well as the comparative method.
The Role of Visual Components in English Language Teaching Textbooks and in Teaching Methods from Diachronic Point of View

This thesis is concerned with visual components in English language teaching textbooks. The theoretical part presents basic types and functions of visual components and also deals with four language teaching methods, their development, principles that they are based on and techniques which are used during lessons. On the basis of findings from the theoretical part there are analysed four books. Each of them corresponds with one of the language teaching methods mentioned in the theoretical part. The analyses are supported with typical visual components from the textbook. The goal of this thesis is to evaluate to what extent is the typical usage of visual components from each method beneficial for teaching languages nowadays.
Inventarization of breeding textbooks for lower secondary schools

This thesis analysed didactic quality and compared the content of textbooks on cultivation which are currently used in teaching of the subject at lower secondary schools. Based on a questionnaire survey conducted at schools, 12 textbooks were included in the research.
Lower-secondary students' drawings as a tool for finding their knowledge about external and internal constitution of fish body

The aim of the diploma thesis is to analyse drawings of internal and external constitution of fish bodycreated bylower secondary students atselected schools in South Bohemia. A total number of 127 respondents from four schools and one grammar school were involved in the research. The questionnaire with three parts was used to collect data. First part was focused on demographic data about the respondent. Second part included a task for students to draw the external structure of the fish's body, while paying attention to the correct location of all fins. Third part of questionnaire contained pre-printed silhouette of a fish (carp), where students tried to correctly sketch pre-selected organs (heart, brain, stomach, intestines, liver, kidney, gas bladder, gills and lateral line organ). There was found in the analysis of the second part of questionnaire that the carp was the most frequently sketchedfish species. Most students had difficulty with drawing correct number of fins and placing them correctly. In third part of questionnaire, brain was the most often drew and correctly located organ. On the other hand, liver was the least drawn and kidney the most incorrectly drawn organ. Activities which could help with teaching this topic in biology lessons were designed based on the collected data. Three selected activities were introduced to lower secondary school teachers in order to get their feedback. Based on this information and pilot testing of two activities the methodological recommendations were written and some activities were slightly modified. The contribution of this diploma thesis can be considered in the practical use of theoretical knowledge of this topic and also activities which can be used by biology teachers at lower-secondary level. The results of the diploma thesismay be useful for the professional community as well as general public. They can become the basis not only for improving teaching this topic, but also for follow-up research using drawing as a tool for investigating the level of students' knowledge. The diploma thesis deals with an identification and formation of subordinate clauses in upper-primary schools and in appropriate grades of grammar schools. The theoretical part describes complex and compound sentece, the classification of subordinate clauses and graphic illustration of sentences. A theoretical part also deals with the analysis and comparison of this issue in textbooks of Czech language. The practical part is about checking of this issue in upper-primary schools and in appropriate grades of grammar schools.
