Teaching English as a foreign language in selected alternative primary schools

This diploma thesis deals with the teaching of the English language at alternative primary schools. The theoretical part focuses on the development of alternative schools and then on the analysis of the selected ones, i.e., Montessori, Waldorf and Jenna school. For each school, their main philosophy and approach to foreign language education is explained. The practical part is conceived as qualitative research that took place at three selected alternative schools using the method of observation and interview. The aim was to find out and describe the approach to teaching English at selected schools, focusing on four areas, namely the role of the teacher, the use of foreign language during the lessons, the used materials and aids and the approach to the development of reading and writing.
Youth media literacy and media use as percieved by teachers

The Master's thesis deals with the view of teachers on complex issues related to the media literacy of adolescents and the concept of media education. The first part of the work provides the necessary theoretical background, on which the empirical part stands and defines key terms related to the topic. The first chapter outlines the approaches by which it is possible to understand teacher's personality and identity. Among other things, the importance of the role that teachers play in the educational process is emphasized here. The second chapter narrows its focus to the concept of media literacy and media education. The third chapter of the thesis deals with the way how young people use the media and deals with related risks that they may encounter. The thesis includes an empirical study as well, which was realized among teachers working at elementary schools. The aim of the survey was primarily to find out and describe how teachers perceive the usage of media and how they evaluate the level of media literacy of their pupils. The discussion and the conclusion of the work then summarize the findings.
The role of a teacher in low-threshold courses of Czech for Foreigners

The thesis deals with the subject of the role of the teacher in low-threshold courses of Czech for foreigners provided by The Centre for Integration of Foreigners (CIC). The thesis is divided into a theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part is divided into three main parts. The first chapter explains the term "low-threshold", which is later put into context of foreign language education organized by the state or non-profit organizations. We focus mainly on NPK CIC. We cover how the courses are built, what is their content and what are the specific of (large) heterogenous classes. The second chapter focuses on adult education in general. We cover the basic of adult education and introduce the key competencies that are developed at NPK. The third chapter covers the adult's teacher. It defines who the teacher is and what his competencies are. We also compare the demands that the teacher has to meet in schools or when they are a teacher at NPK. The chapter covers the role of the teacher and analyses the usage of these models in the environment of NPK. Attention is also paid to team teaching. Language teaching on French Institute of Prague

This bachelor thesis aims at analytical description of French language education at the French Institute in Prague. Firstly, it describes development, function and organisation of the French Institute in Prague and its affection by important historical events during 20th century. Furthermore, the thesis thoroughly describes several French language courses, which are currently being taught at the French Institute in Prague and their development. Next part focuses on training and education of French teachers and simultaneously refers to useful pedagogical materials. Important part of this thesis is a description of educational methods at the French Institute in Prague, introduction of teacher's role and lecture's flow. In this context, an interest is given to demands of the French Institute in Prague on their lecturers and integration issue of new members to the lecturer's group at the French Institute. Lastly, the thesis covers a summary of language certificates issued by the French Institute. Factors influencing relations between the German language and high school students

The thesis deals with factors which could influence a relation between high school students and German language. It surveys factors influencing the choice to study German as foreign language and also factors affecting their relationship with the subject. One of the topics is a classification of German in the language system and describing forms of its occurrence. Between the particular factors impacting a decision which language should be studied is for example the possibility to utilize this language in a future career or living in the German speaking countries included. It also delves into the influence of the common history between Czechs and Germans. The student can be affected by a teacher, not only in the positive, but also in the negative way during their school years. The thesis also studies how the difficulty of the German language impacts its learning process and compares the effects to English. These two languages are also compared at the primary school and high school levels, while the focus is primarily on the length of the schooling and the achieved language level.
