The effect of migration on electoral geography of populist-nationalist parties: the case of Freedom and Direct Democracy - Tomio Okamura party
Suchánek, Jonáš
Analytical research of a migrant's presence in a certain location on election outcomes of populist-nationalist parties is a relatively new phenomena in the field of electoral geography. Media and political interest in migration and refugees has risen rapidly in the last few years and offers a broad opportunity for relevant scientific studies. This thesis stems from existing literature, that have studied such relation and focuses on the case of The Freedom and Direct Democracy - Tomio Okamura Party (SPD) and on the possible influence of the share of migrants on SPD's electoral support at two different scale levels (municipalities with authorized municipal offices and individual municipalities) during the 2017 parliamentary elections. Analysing the most important groups of migrants and additionally a formed group of migrants coming from countries with either dominant or significant Muslim native population can be considered as innovative. The main goal is to discover whether the election outcomes of SPD, which stands strongly opposed to migration, differ based on the share of migrants in a certain area, or if migration does not play any role at all. Furthermore, the electoral geography of SPD is compared to the of Tomio Okamura's former party - Dawn of Direct Democracy, whose rhetoric did not focus...
Amount and differences in snow accumulation in the Šumava region
Procházka, J. ; Šustková, V. ; Tesař, Miroslav
The Šumava Mts. (Bohemian Forest) represents the most extensive mountainous range of the Czech Republic and due to its area and altitude it catches the substantial portion of the winter precipitation in the snow form. Unfortunately, the more continuous information on snow characteristics from the highest and remote regions of the Šumava Mts. has been in effect missing till recently. From this reason the activities focused on the more detailed expeditionary field measurements of the snow depths and snow water equivalent. The space analysis of point snow cover measurements the appropriate tools were used: ArcGIS (ESRI), orographical interpolation, LLR methods and the methods of ClidatDEM used in the Czech Hydrometeolological Institute.
Analysis of the party effect within the coalition candidates in the 2021 Czech parliamentary elections
Křivohlávek, Tomáš ; Hasman, Jiří (advisor) ; Pink, Michal (referee)
This master thesis aims to present a new theoretical concept called the party effect. The party effect describes the situation when the voter gives preferential votes according to which party within the coalition nominated the candidate. This effect is examined in the case of the parliamentarian elections in the Czech Republic in 2021. Thanks to the success of two pre-electoral coalitions, these elections represent an ideal opportunity to analyse the party effect within the coalition candidate list. The author is not aware that this aspect of preferential voting within pre-electoral coalitions has been addressed before. In addition to presenting the concept, the aim of the thesis is also to propose a methodology for its measurement. This methodology is subsequently applied for empirical verification of the presence and strength of the party effect in the individual parties of the SPOLU coalition and the PIRÁTI a STAROSTONÉ coalition. In the analytical part of the work, it was found that the party effect is present in all investigated parties. The strength of the effect varies not only across parties but also across space. It is primarily a methodological work, the goal of which is not a detailed analysis of each individual finding.
Spatial analysis of participants in world men´s championships in selected team sports
DŘEVOJAN, Filip
This bachelor thesis deals with spatial analysis of the world men´s championship in selected team sports, namely handball, volleyball, rugby, and floorball. The thesis consists of two main part - theoretical and analytical part. Theoretical part researches cultural geography, geography of sport, as well as the history and an overview of the world championships given by the sports. Analytical part contains spatial analysis participants of world championship of individual sports, which is the main goal this thesis. Data drawn from official websites international federations are used in map parts and comparations. The results of bachelor´s thesis brought survey, that handball and volleyball seem like sports, where more states compete between themselves, however the biggest number of states comes from Europe. Rugby and floorball are sports, which has their participants less concentration around the world, participants of world championship in rugby have connection with Great Britain and its colonization, participants of world championships in floorball have link to ice hockey.
Spatial analysis of carpooling in the Czech Republic
OLIVA, Petr
The thesis is focused on the spatial analysis of carpooling in the Czech Republic. Specifically, it monitors Facebook groups dealing with this phenomenom. These groups are used to for sharing offers and proposals concerning carpooling in the Czech Republic. The main goal of the thesis is the spatial analysis of carpooling in the Czech Republic. In the theoretical part, the thesis deals marginally with spatial mobility and other alternative modes of transport. However, the thesis mainly focuses on carpooling itself. It describes the history of carpooling, its forms and its types. In the analytical part, the thesis examines data about carpooling in the observed groups according to specified parameters such as number of members, number of posts per month, distance and other. Futhermore, the analytical part of the thesis deals with spatiotemporal variability and concentration of posts in carpooling groups. The results of the thesis revealed that the largest groups and the most members are associated with the largest cities in the Czech Republic, especially Prague. The largest concentratration of offers and proposals for carpooling was found on the routes between these cities. The evaluation of spatiotemporal variability and concentration of posts determined that greatest concentration and the highest numbers of posts were in the morning and evening hours in days Monday, Friday and Sunday.
Prostorová analýza městské hromadné dopravy v Českých Budějovicích
SAUEROVÁ, Kristýna
The Bachelor's thesis focuses on spatial analysis of urban transport in České Budějovice. First, the thesis introduces the theoretical concept of urban transport and sets it into a geographical context. Next, it also presents trends in urban transport. Subsequently, the thesis deals with the current arrangement of urban transport in České Budějovice using data from annual reports. The practical part contains outputs based on the author's calculations and data provided by the Transport Company of České Budějovice on the movement of passengers on individual lines of urban transport.
Prostorová analýza účastníků světových šampionátů mužů ve vybraných kolektivních sportech
DLUGOŠ, Theodor
The bachelor thesis is focused on the spatial analysis of participants in the World Men´s Championships in selected team sports, specifically basketball, soccer, cricket and field hockey. The aim of the work is the spatial analysis of all participants in all World Championships in the already mentioned sports. The work is divided into two main parts - theoretical and analytical. The theoretical part is focused mainly on cultural geography and the geography of sport, but also contains a brief overview of each World cup. For the analytic part, data on participants from official websites of international federations or associations are used. These data are the used in map works and comparisons. The results of the bachelor's thesis brought, among other things, the finding that basketball and football are sports in which a larger number of states compete and their focus is mainly in Europe, but also in the rest of the world, these sports are fairly evenly distributed. While cricket and field hockey are concentrated primarily in South Asia and Australia, this is especially true for cricket. There are also several countries from Europe at the top level in field hockey, but the countries of South Asia and Australia predominate.
Visualization of public transport in České Budějovice using GIS
VONDRUŠ, Pavel
Literal research at the beginning of the thesis describes the foundation of geograph-ical informational systems (GIS) and describes its most used programs and the spatial analysis. Further on in the thesis, there are basic information about České Budějovice, especially about public transport in this city. The practical part of this diploma thesis is concerned with visualization oh the public transport in České Budějovice. There has been made a map of public transpor-tation in České Budějovice by using the ArcMap program. Further on the thesis in-cludes more detailed research of the selected tracks by using Tracker for ArcGIS. These data have been evaluated. The detailed analysis of selected tracks includes an evaluation of passengers' quantity and delays of each track. The analysis has been affected by the pandemic situation due to covid-19.
Motorcycle transport in the Czech Republic in the geographical perspective
TÁBOŘÍK, Tomáš
This bachelor thesis is focused on the spatial analysis of motorcycle traffic in the Czech Republic. The aim of this thesis is the spatial analysis of motorcycle transport in the Czech Republic and the evaluation of its condition and position within the transport system. The thesis is divided into two main parts, theoretical and analytical. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to the spatial mobility, transport and the transport behavior, but also to scenic roads, the history of motorcycles and the operating conditions of riding them. The analytical part is devoted to the spatial analysis of motorcycle transport, based on data from the Sčítání lidu, domů a bytů 2011, the Centrální registr vozidel and the Celostátní sčítání dopravy 2010 and 2016, from which map outputs were created. The results of this work with regard to available data led to the finding that the motorcycle as a means of transport for an ordinary commuting in the Czech Republic is mostly used in a hinterland of cities and regional centers, but otherwise its importance in this regard is very small. The spatial organization of an individual motorcycling is almost identical to the spatial organization of an individual motorization, so it is also oriented in the west - east direction. The motorcycle thus plays a dominant role in transport as a means of spending leisure activities, as evidenced by the growing number of registered motorcycles and the high intensity of their traffic on roads that to some extent fulfill the concept of scenic routes.
Spatial Analysis of Czech Parliamentary Election: Comparison of Spatial Econometrics and Machine Learning
Černý, Jakub ; Šťastná, Lenka (advisor) ; Gregor, Martin (referee)
This thesis analyses the results of the Czech Parliamentary election in 2021 and attempts to explain the voting support of major political subjects by using aggregate data from Czech municipalities. Since the data evince spatial autocorrelation, it is necessary to specify a suitable spatial model. The thesis provides both empirical and economic evidence for the Spatial Durbin Error Model, which enables distinguishing the direct and indirect effects of particular independent variables and accounts for the spatial dependence of error terms. This method shows that variables describing the socio-economic characteristics of inhabitants, such as the share of entrepreneurs or people with university education, play the most significant role in explaining voting results and evince mostly the direct effects. On the contrary, variables describing municipalities, such as public spending or infrastructure, are more likely to impact the election result indirectly. Subsequently, the analysis is replicated using two tree-based machine learning algorithms and all models are evaluated based on their ability to predict the election results from unseen data. Even though machine learning methods estimate only relative variable importance instead of standard coefficients, this approach represents a perspective...
