Revivalist, historian, apologist Matěj Procházka (1811-1889)

in English The following work is about Matěj Procházka (1811-1889), an important figure of national and ecclesiastical life in Moravia in 19th century and a member of the circle around Professor František Sušil, the-so-called Sušilova družina. The detailed biography presented here is the result of historical research into resource materials from several different archives in Moravia. This work examines three main periods of Procházka's life. He spent his childhood and student years, firstly, in his native town of Brtnice, then in Jihlava and Brno. After ordination, he served as a priest for sixteen years in different parishes of Brno diocese. Then he lived in Brno for nearly forty years while working as a secondary grammar school teacher and catechist and being involved in different activities, such as the Czech national revival, Catholic associations, education, and especially, publishing. This work maps the importance of the personage of Matěj Procházka as seen by his contemporaries and by following generations up to the present. It also brings out the overall characteristics of this priest. Cognitive abilities in reptiles and relevant research methodology

Reptiles are a neglected group in the study of cognitive abilities of Amniota. Due to their phylogenetic relationship with birds and mammals, knowledge about reptile brains and cognition is important to understanding their evolution in other amniote groups. In this thesis, I summarized the literature on cognitive abilities in reptiles, which focuses on spatial orientation, such as orientation based on visual cues or compass navigation, associative learning, mainly visual discrimination and operant conditioning, and social learning. It has been shown that some reptilian species are capable of flexible behaviour and, given the right methodology, can successfully solve a number of cognitive tasks. I also briefly treated the size and structure of reptile brains, providing the neural substrate for these abilities. Effect of social learning on avoidance of aposematic prey in avian predators

Social learning is a topic of many studies. We tested the effect of social learning on the acquisition of avoidance against aposematic prey. We have chosen wild-caught adult and naive hand-reared juvenile great tits (Parus major) as a model predator species, because their individual avoidance learnig of aposematic prey is well-studied. We used red and green paper dummies of bugs with a mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) stuck underneath as an artificial prey. Mealworms were soaked in water or in bitter-tasting solution of quinine. We used two types of conspecific demonstrators - naive birds that showed aversive reactions while tasting an unpalatable prey and experienced birds that were trained not to handle the unpalatable pray at all. We compared effects of both demonstrators on discrimination learning and we tested whether these effects differ in adult and juvenile birds. Observing an experienced demonstrator had an effect on the performance of observers at the beginning of learning process. The observers did not reject the unpalatable prey completely, but the number of trials in which they correctly chose the palatable prey was higher in comparison with birds that observed naive demonstrators and birds from the control group with no demonstrator. The Role of the Teacher in the Process of Implementation of Primal Prevention of Bullying at the Primary School.

This graduation thesis is dedicated to the personality of the pedagogue in relation to the primary bullying prevention realisation at the primary level of the schools. The first part deals with the characteristics of the young learner period of the child development through the perspective of the developmental psychology aimed primarily at the cognitive and emotional development as well as the moral awareness. The second part views two basic tendencies of the upbringing and the education that appear in the pedagogical environment. It offers a description of the contemporary idea of upbringing and education in our background including its critics' opinions. The third part concerns the problematics of bullying and the primary prevention options. The last part is dedicated to the personality of the pedagogue from a psychological and pedagogical point of view with a philosophical overlap.
The phenomenon of democracy in the social doctrine of the Church

The diploma thesis deals with the historical development of the attitude of the Church social doctrine towards the phenomenon of democracy. It compares the values of modern democracy and social doctrine. Implicit historical attitudes to democracy derive from the theses obtained by analyzing all the essential documents of social doctrine. The theses related to democracy explicitly are placed in the context and comments of other authors. In conclusion, it summarizes the genesis of the attitude of the Church's social doctrine to democracy in a systematic overview with the links. The summary distinguishes the level of the value starting-points of the Church social doctrine and the level of attitude towards democracy as such.
Europeanization of the selected actors of the Czech social policy

This thesis deals with the Europeanization of the selected Czech social policy actors, among them some trade unions and non-governmental organizations. It examines their changes in some particular areas: in an organizational structure, in financial resources, in activities, in interests, in the used argumentation towards representatives of state power and in attitudes to the cooperation with partners from the other EU countries. These changes are observed thanks to the country's accession to the EU and/or thanks to the actors' membership in the European interest groups. The thesis tries to prove that these changes have been caused, at first, by the misfit among the Czech actors and their counterparts from the other EU member states. In the latter case it assesses if it is possible to attribute changes to socialization into the European interest groups. It also focuses on the fact whether there have been suitable conditions for the social learning of the observed actors. The questionnaire and secondary literature have been used for the evaluation. It has been proved that the concept of misfit is not suitable for these cases and thus the observed changes cannot be ascribed to this concept. Understanding Work in the Social Teaching of the Church

The title of this bachelor thesis is "Understanding Work in the Social Teaching of the Church". Individual topics related to the field of work and general human activity are presented here in accordance with social encyclicals written from 1891 to 1991. Each theme connected to work is presented gradually, so that its genesis, conception and development can be followed, depending on the changeable conditions of each time period. It becomes obvious that the basic postulates of encyclicals stay compact in their general frames, they are, however, modified by different popes. Moreover, each pope puts emphasis on specific aspects of the themes, according to current needs of social evolution. Consequently, social encyclicals show a number of phenomena changing within one hundred years. These are for example: right to work and strike, work of women and children, redistribution of estates, value of earnings or spirituality of work as human contribution to creation.
