Seasonality as a typical feature of tourism: Case study - Kryštofovo Údolí
Štorková, Kateřina ; Fialová, Dana (advisor) ; Drápela, Emil (referee)
Seasonality as a typical feature of tourism - case study: Kryštofovo Údolí Abstract The diploma thesis examines the issue of the seasonality of tourism. The first goal was to contribute to the discussion of the seasonality of tourism in the context of sustainable tourism and the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on tourism. The theoretical framework is based on Czech and foreign professional literature. The second goal was to create a proposal for an off- season offer for a selected model area - Kryštofovo Údolí in the Liberec Region. The village can be proud of the unprecedented Novinský viaduct, the all-wooden church of St. Christopher from the 17th century, an astronomical clock, the Museum of Nativity Scenes, natural attractions, and the conservation zone, which was established mainly thanks to half-timbered cottages. The specific of the village is also a pedestal, a historical type of house construction, which is not commonly seen outside the Czech-Polish-German border area (Trojzemí). In order to accomplish the second goal, it was necessary to anchor the characteristics of the area in terms of tourism and also in general on the basis of many diverse sources. It was necessary to carry out controlled and structured interviews with visitors of the village, the local mayor, and local residents, who do or...

Seasonality of Selected Demographic Events in the Czech Republic after 1950 Abstract This thesis is focusing on seasonality of marriages, live births, induced abortions, spontaneous abortions, deaths and suicides in the Czech Republic in the period of 1950-2019. The thesis also describes several factors, which affect the seasonality of these events. The data is analyzed according to individual months in each year. Furthermore, the period is divided into decades which are described in more detail. Seasonality of live births, induced abortions and suicides is also analyzed with focus on particular day of the week. Seasonality of marriages is influenced mainly by social and cultural factors, legislations changes and traditions. The seasonality of live births is influenced by bioclimatic, energetic and social factors. The seasonality of induced abortions is influenced by the time of conception and operation of medical facilities. Seasonality of deaths is influenced by bioclimatic and sociodemographic factors. Suicides are combination of bioclimatic and social factors. Moreover, the thesis analyzes the changes in seasonality of some demographic events that happened in the pandemic year of 2020. Key words: seasonality, causes affecting seasonality, marriages, live births, induced abortions, spontaneous abortions,...
The importance of water sources for space-use of mammals in African savannah
Homoláč, David ; Hořák, David (advisor) ; Brandlová, Karolína (referee)
African savannas are seasonal ecosystems experiencing a significant dry period each year. During the dry season, water scarcity has both, spatial and temporal consequences on the movements of large mammals. Some mammals can cope with these resource restrictions better than others. These water independent mammals predominantly feed on browse (giraffe, kudu, eland) and can be found further from water sources. However, these mammals can utilize areas near rivers as these areas provide food resources. Water dependent species are predominantly grazers and non-ruminants (zebra, wildebeest, elephant). Water shortage during a dry season restricts the movements of these species, which can be generally found in the vicinity of water bodies. Carnivore species (lions) react on the spatial restrictions of ungulates by adjusting their hunting areas to the vicinity of water sources. Both intra-guild (African wild dog) and inter-gild prey species (ungulates) develop anti-predatory strategies such as temporal and spatial segregation. African wild dogs use dens far from water points and ungulate species use to drink during daytime when lions are not active. Spatial and temporal segregation are also strategies to cope with competitors. Daily patterns of water point visitations can vary suggesting other factors...
Income seasonality and its impact on farmer´s livelihood: a case study of the Agogo township
Amoako, Ellen
Real income is an essential component that constitutes to the well-being of individuals and households. The welfare of every household relies heavily on the level of income generated at a particular season. For farmers to survive and to get out of poverty it is imperative that they earn a good and stable income. The income of farming households in Agogo Township has seasonal patterns. The thesis examines the implications of seasonal incomes on household expenditure. Primary research was conducted on households in the Agogo Township in Ghana. Data was collected to determine the seasonal patterns of income on expenditure. The findings showed that seasonal incomes of the farmers have an impact on expenditure. It was discovered that household income becomes unstable, mostly throughout the lean seasons where limited farming activities occur. During this season most farmers survive on the little amount of money that has been saved or the least amount of crops left in storage for sale. Furthermore, lack of storage facilities to store produce after harvesting, fluctuating market price, bad weather and high transportation cost are some the major problems that cause income variation among households. However, as a result of income seasonality, households encounter challenges with consumption, household expenditure and farm extension. Due to the seasonality of income, some households have adopted other non-farm activities to supplement their income.
Impact of investors' mood on European stock markets
Rosol, Jaroslav ; Kočenda, Evžen (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
This thesis investigates into relationship of mood and stock markets. As proxies for mood we selected Daylight Savings Time changes, Lunar cycles and football results. Any abnormal returns on related days would present a challenge for Efficient Markets Hypothesis. We examine stock returns on corresponding days using up-to-date daily data of European All Share indices and analyse them us- ing ARMA-GARCH model. Our results for Daylight Savings Time change are neither uniform nor statistically significant with one exception. Even though results for Lunar cycles mostly follow expected positive relationship, they also lack statistical significance. For France and Croatia we find statistically signif- icant negative relationship between wins of national teams and stock returns, which goes against our expectations and previous research. Statistically sig- nificant negative relationship is expected for days after losses and potential elimination of national teams from competition as we confirmed for Croatia and Italy. Seasonal exponential smoothing
Rábek, Július ; Cipra, Tomáš (advisor) ; Zichová, Jitka (referee)
This thesis deals with the issues of time series modeling, where seasonal component is present. Principles of basic seasonal exponential smoothing methods: simple and double exponential smoothing, Holt's method, which are applicable on time series without seasonality, are described in the beginning. For seasonal time series, Holt-Winters exponential smoothing is the most suitable method. This method is introduced in both of its versions and the usage of either version depends on the characteristics of the seasonal component. Furthermore, state space modeling is presented as a statistical framework for exponential smoothing methods, joined with a discussion of some selected problems related with practical implementation of these techniques together with suggestions of their solution. Finally, Holt-Winters method on two real data time series with seasonality is presented.

Seasonal growth dynamic of norway spruce at the study site of Rájec (Drahanská vrchovina Highland)
Chekuimo Tagne, Georges Herbert
Evaluation of the circumference increment of Norway spruce focused on the effect of inter-tree competition in the mature spruce stand was made at the study site of Rájec (Drahanská vrchovina Highland) over a 5-year period. Data were collected from 49 trees, which were monitored continuously with mechanical band dendrometers from 2010 to 2014. The dependency of the circumference increment on competition index, diameter at breast height, Lang's rain factor, mean temperature of various periods and sum of precipitation of various periods was evaluated. Climatic conditions of the study site are characterised with warm and wet summers and cold-dry winters. In 5 years average around 61 % of the annual precipitation falls during growing season. There was highly significant correlation between relative increment and temperature (p=2.324e-13) and significant correlation between relative increment and precipitation (p=0.0439). The performed results confirmed that inter-tree competition and diameter at breast height are sufficient variables for circumference increment estimation of unmeasured trees in the particular year. Coefficient of determination reached 0.25 - 0.63 for competition and 0.40 - 0.84 for tree diameter at breast height. The present investigation brings important results about tree growth and seasonal growth dynamics and its relation with competition and microclimatic conditions in mature spruce stand. It is obvious that unsuitable climatic conditions for spruce can lead to stem shrinkage during growing season. Here we assume that these responses are caused mostly by water storage deficit in stem and this leads to decreasing of the tree vitality. Such phenomenon will have significantly negative ecological and economic consequences in expected climatic changes in the future.
