Contemporary Trends in Early Childhood Education and Care in England

This paper examines current trends and developments in the early childhood care and education system in England. The aim of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive understanding of English early childhood education. The thesis focuses on the current anchoring of early childhood care and education in the English education system. It provides an analysis and deeper insight into the circumstances of the emergence, progress and direction of current reforms and trends. The thesis is framed by a qualitative research paradigm while the research design is a single country case study using content analysis of documents, semi-structured expert interviews and participant observation. The thesis captures the historical background to English early childhood education and its influence on the creation of the current situation. It has focused on analysis of external (European) and internal influences on educational policy in England and their reflection in curriculum development documents. The thesis also thematises the developments in workforce policy and their impact on the contemporary situation of early years professionals. School Readiness: Beliefs about Preparing Children for Transition from Pre-primary to Primary Education in China

A smooth transition to primary school is positively related to children's later school experience. Continuity among family, Early Childhood Education and Care, and primary school is conducive to successful transition to school. Certain parental school- readiness beliefs and parenting styles, among other factors, contribute to the smoothness of this transition. Therefore, this study compared the school readiness beliefs among Chinese parents, kindergarten teachers and first grade teachers, based on samples drawn from Chongqing, China. 1204 Chinese parents, 245 kindergarten teachers and 133 primary school teachers participated in the current study. Using multi- group confirmatory factor analysis for checking the measurement invariance, this study revealed that kindergarten teachers valued social-emotional competence more than parents. And kindergarten teachers rated items about social-emotional competence significantly higher than primary school teachers did. Besides, this study adopted latent profile analysis to examine the patterns of Chinese parents' school-readiness beliefs. Diagnostic of school maturity of children with impaired communication ability

This thesis deals with the issue of school readiness of children with speech difficulties in the preschool period. The theoretical part of the thesis describes in detail the areas of preschool child development, as well as communication of the preschool child, school maturity and readiness, and diagnosis of school maturity and readiness. In the practical part of the thesis, qualitative research is conducted using a diagnostic method to assess school maturity in children with impaired communication skills who are awaiting entry into primary school. Subsequently, individual speech and language therapy interventions are designed for those children who, based on the results of the assessment, are ready to enter primary school. The aim of the work is to contribute to a better understanding of the issue of school readiness of children with impaired communication skills and to provide practical tools to support the communication skills of these children in preparation for entry into primary school. The design of the speech therapy intervention serves as a complement to home practice before starting primary school. Visual motor coordination training for preschool children

Title: Visual motor coordination training for preschool children Objectives: To create and implement 3-month program Owl and subsequently evaluate its impact on school maturity, visual attention and final motor skills in preschool children. Methods: Mixed research in the form of a quasi-experiment was realized on a group of 26 children aged 5-7 years from kindergarten in Prague, divided into an intervention (n=13) and comparative (np=13) group. Intervention in the intervention group consisted of participation in 10-20 minutes sessions once a week, focused on visuomotor coordination: eye gymnastics followed by rhymes, elements from the Feldenkrais method, games and exercises focused on attention and eye-hand coordination. These exercises were then repeated 2-3 times a week with the teachers. Data collection was done in the form of an initial anamnestic questionnaire and a pre/post-test containing: MABC-2 part of manual dexterity, School maturity orientation test and Visual attention test. Communication disorders in relation to school maturity and the child's preparation for first grade

The thesis deals with the topic of communication disorders in relation to school maturity and the child's preparation for first grade. The theoretical part is devoted to the theoretical definition of the issue of school maturity and readiness, with an emphasis on communication skills and the impact of impaired communication skills on first grade education. It also focuses on the possibilities of developing a child's communication skills before entering first grade. One of the chapters focuses on Elkonin's stimulating language skills training program. The practical part of the thesis is conducted by qualitative method of investigation through semi-structured interviews with a clinical speech therapist, a special educator - speech therapist and a speech therapy assistant. The practical part explores the developmental opportunities for the child with impaired communication skills and the benefits of the Elkonin programme for training language skills for impaired communication skills in preparation for the start of compulsory schooling. This diploma thesis deals with speech skills, the skills associated with speech, and children's maturity and readiness for school before starting Year 1 of primary school. Besides, it discusses the methods applied in the children's preparation for school entry. The theoretical part of this work focuses on maturity and readiness for school, and on the other hand immaturity and unreadiness, their diagnosis and deferred school entry. Furthermore, it specifies the characteristics of a pre-school child, describing their motor, cognitive, social and motivational-volitional development. The last section of this part deals with a pre-schooler's communication, and with the language, speech and communication according to the framework educational programme for pre-school education. It also studies the development of communication, risk factors of speech development, communication disorders and a child with communication disorders in nursery school. The introduction to the practical part presents the objectives and the methodology of qualitative research and describes the research sample. The contemporary problematics related with postponement of school attendance from the perspective of kindergarden and primary school teachers

The name of this bachelor thesis is "Current issues related to the postponement of school attendance from the perspective of kindergarten and primary school teachers." It identifies current issues related to the postponement of school attendance, current reasons and the meaning of postponement from the perspective of kindergarten and primary school teachers. It deals with how primary and kindergartens cooperate in the transition of children to basic education. It also focuses on the cooperation of the family with the kindergarten. This bachelor thesis consists of theoretical part and practical part. The theoretical part is focused on the characteristics of the child at the turn of preschool and early school age, defines the concepts of school maturity, school readiness and their areas. In the practical part, a questionnaire survey is carried out using the method of an Internet questionnaire. The research group consists of primary and nursery school teachers. The answers result in teachers' opinions on the issues, reasons and meaning of school postponements and the related school readiness and maturity of children in the transition to basic education. It also contains the results of a questionnaire survey, the aim of which was to find out whether the cooperation between the family, kindergarten and primary school influences the child's transition to primary school.

The topic of this bachelor´s thesis is development of graphomotor skills of pre-school age and early school age children. The aim is creation of supportive programme for the development of the graphomotor skills and its verification in practice. The theoretical part is devoted to the systems influencing the motor skills development. This part of thesis describes also the entire area of motor skills and other relating topics such as working habits for drawing and writing, laterality, pre-school age and early school age. The practical part deals with creation and realization of supportive programme for chosen group of children. It is focused on the development of graphomotor skills by a comprehensive way. The evaluation of the gained data and the analysis of the results are also a component of the practical part of the thesis.
School maturity and preparedness of a child for the 1 st grade from the point of view of speech

The thesis focuses on the issue of school maturity and school readiness from the point of view of speech therapy such as its diagnosis and individual abilities that are needed for entering first classes of a primary school. The theoretical part deals with the characteristics of the preschool stage, school maturity and school readiness, registering for first class, the postponement of the school attendance, and communication disabilities of preschoolers. The aim of the empirical part of the thesis is to find out the standard of the school maturity and school readiness of children in an ordinary group as well as in a group with speech therapy of the same nursery. Tests are going to be used to find out the school maturity and school readiness such as Preliminary Test of School Maturity - verbal thinking, Test of Auditory Distinction - WM, Kwint Psychomotor Examination, and Examination of Language Skills for Preschoolers. Furthermore, the obtained data will be analysed and compared. The data collection will take place in Nursery School Zelenka in Turnov.
