This thesis deals with the analysis of two novels by Juan José Millás (El desorden de tu nombre and La soledad era esto), in which it concentrates on the characters in difficult life situations and their feeling of loneliness. The first part of work examines Spanish postmodern literature after 1975 and its characteristics which can be found in the work of Millás. The second and principal part is dedicated both to the typology of characters and also to the topic of loneliness, its cause and outcome. The aim of this work is an attempt to define main events which have influence on the evolution and current condition of the characters that these have in common or, on the contrary, different. There will be also taken into consideration whether the protagonist is a man or a woman. The work will be also focused on protagonists' characters, their inner world, existential questions which the persons ask themselves and their search of lost identity.

The practical part is occupied by analysis of the characters and divides them by using methods which were described in theoretical part. In Túnel, the focus is on the main characters of the novel and the evolution of their relationship. In Aura, the primary focus is on the fantastic transformation of the characters. In the final section, my work offers a summary of several common and different traits of the characters appearing in both novels.

Boháčová, Kristýna ; Vojvodík, Josef (advisor) ; Vojtěch, Daniel (referee)
The thesis follows the line of solitude in the poetry of Jan Kameník (which is the pen name of Ludmila Macešková). It notices the impossibility of classifying him into the literary groups active from 40's to 60's. It also observes his dramatic way which was motivated by desire to find the expression for his spiritual experience. First, the thesis focuses on places which illustrate the phases during the way. Then it centres on the poetic language which moves to the boundaries of communicability. Last, it comes to the touch like specific revelation of name where all differences are overcame.
García Márquez's Leaf Storm in Comparison with One Hundred Years of Solitude
Trčková, Helena ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
(in English) The topic of this thesis is the early novel of the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez called Leaf Storm (La Hojarasca). To provide a comparison with another book, this work also deals in brief with the author's most known novel One Hundred Years of Solitude (Cien años de soledad). The Leaf Storm is considered by the author himself as a direct predecessor of One Hundred Years of Solitude, however, they are two very different books. On the next pages I will dedicate my attention to the several aspects of the novel Leaf Storm. Specifically, I will focus on the composition, Macondo, the violence in the story, the significance of "storm" in the name of the book, the atmosphere, the novel as a modern version of an ancient tragedy, the mystery and the absurdity, the concept of the time and at last, the theme of solitude. Both novels take place in Macondo and describe similar historical events, yet they are very different concerning their composition - meanwhile One Hundred Years of Solitude is from this point of view much more traditional, Leaf Storm is considered more experimental. One Hundred Years of Solitude is one of the major works belonging to the magic realism, whereas Leaf Storm is a rather realistic book. In the first author's novel we can certainly find a pattern that will be...
Anxiety and estrangement in Juan Carlos Onetti's works
Krupková, Tereza ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Vydrová, Hedvika (referee)
Anxiety and estrangement in Juan Carlos Onetti's works Key words: Onetti, The Well, novel, Eladio Linacero, estrangement, anxiety, loneliness, dreams, Tizón This work focuses on the literary conception of characters in Onetti's works. Specifically, it converges on anxiety, loneliness and estrangement, which are the central components of the author's prose. Onetti's first-fruit, The Well, serves as a starting point. This novel revealed new possible ways of the novel-writing and influenced many other authors. It carries the key issues of Onetti's future work. The novel is sketchy; the images often do not follow each other and they are directed by hidden associations. There appears a new character: urban anti-hero, who escapes from the hostile reality to the fantasy life. The present work features the protagonist of The Well with other Onetti's characters. The part dedicated to the style focuses on the relation between form and content. Onetti's books are about misunderstanding which is reflected in the structure and language. In the final chapter of this work is confronted The Well with The Beauty of the World by Héctor Tizón. Different and in some components similar processes allow to recognize and define Onetti's style and uniqueness better.

The lifestyle of couples aged more then 60. years.
MARIÁNKOVÁ, Alena
At present we are witnessing a revolutionary period marked by changes in population demographics. Recently there has been a significant increase in life expectancy of people in developed countries and the percentage of seniors in society has been rising. The issue of a proactive approach to aging is therefore very relevant today. It is difficult to determine when youth ends and old age starts, but the World Health Organization has determined this age limit as 60 years. This is the time when people retire and when they perceive their own aging most intensely. The aim of the thesis is to explore the lifestyle of seniors. The theoretical part includes a description of this particular period of human life, the practical research studies the lives of concrete seniors with the aim of creating a clear conception of how today's seniors live, what their normal days look like, what they are occupied with and what they are worried about. The main research groups are couples, but in the research are included also individuals, mostly widows who live alone. Interviews conducted in their home environment enable looking into their privacy, and finding out what the lifestyle of people over 60 years old is like. For all respondents, retirement was a major turning point in their lives. The way they coped with this situation is different in each case, but anyway their lives and lifestyles changed in some way, either positively or negatively. Some people slowed down the pace of life and began to pursue hobbies and family life after leaving their jobs, others used the newly gained time to start to fully focus on their hobbies. There are, however, people who gave up their hobbies and got indolent. This applies particularly to lonely people. The research has shown that people living in pair are more active and if they are not limited by health problems, they show greater diligence and activity. Partners support each other in their hobbies and encourage each other to action. The research could not cover the views of all seniors, but it has turned out that a positive approach to life and an active lifestyle significantly helps improve old age that should not be seen as a sad and final chapter of life.
