Reactions of American conservatives toward the revisionism of the historical role of Christopher Columbus
Schaepe, Hana ; Hornát, Jan (advisor) ; Kýrová, Lucie (referee)
The thesis focuses on the analysis of the reaction of American conservatives to the impulses for revisionist reinterpretation of the historical figure of Christopher Columbus and his legacy. The thesis places this topic in the context of polarization in the United States and the culture wars. It presents a brief development of reinterpretation attempts, how this view arose, what its rationale is, and how Christopher Columbus is viewed through it. It will briefly summarize the history of this phenomenon, its reinforcement around the quincentennial of Columbus's voyages, and its projection into resonant debates in contemporary American society. Subsequently it will analyze the reaction of conservative-minded Americans to this issue using two focus groups. In the analysis, the thesis will examine representative figures from the groups of politicians and political commentators or authors who address the issue. The thesis will then summarize the analyzed responses into major lines of argument and deduce from them why conservatives take a largely negative view of revisionism, what aspects of reinterpretation bother them, and what they base their positions on. The paper thus asks: What is the response to suggestions for reinterpreting the figure of Christopher Columbus by conservative-minded circles...

Užitá geofyzika představuje rychlý, efektivní a nedestruktivní způsob získávání informací o složení a stavu horninového prostředí, jakož i o studovaných geologických či geomorfologických procesech.
Earl christianity and vizualization trinity of Got
Činátl, Jiří ; Lukeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Kučera, Zdeněk (referee)
Though the trinitarian iconography is fairly easy to understand, it remains with many of the 4th and 5th century works it is unclear and difficult to explain. In the literature of the last century, we often encounter ideas that have been absorbed in older works and subsequently only mechanically repeated in subsequent works. Such a way of interpreting can lead to controversial iconographic analyzes in order to focus in a trinitarian way and to attempt in a tricky way to explain the iconography of "non-trivial" artefacts. This diploma thesis attempts to open a difficult question of the origin, development and interaction of individual types of symbols representing the Trinity. The aim of this work is to mark the effort of a complex view, which will try, especially with similar motives and symbols, to lead to a more precise interpretation and classification within the framework of trinitarian iconography. The main aim of this diploma thesis is the effort of theological, artistic, historical and philosophical grasp of the issue of the image of God in the first millennium of the Christian faith. Due to the vastness and considerable lack of clarity of this topic, the work is conceived with a focus on the first millennium of Christianity. Many examples of depictions and symbolic references to the Triune...
Reflection of the Figure of Judas Iscariot in Uwe Saeger's Novel Die gehäutete Zeit
Studničková, Kateřina ; Halík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Lyčka, Milan (referee)
(in English): The figure of Judas Iscariot is one of the most controversial ones in Christianity and Christian reception. Traditionally Judas used to be synonymous for the ultimate sinner, who would not deserve any compassion at all. He was first and foremost conceived as the traitor of Jesus and was judged and damned accordingly. In every period he attracted attention, was commentated upon and interpreted anew. The paper at hand deals with one of the latest interpretations of Judas: Uwe Saeger's novel Die gehäutete Zeit: Ein Judasbericht (The skinned time: A Judasreport). Published in 2008, this novel is a retelling of the gospel, as seen through Judas' eyes. Uwe Saeger re-interprets the founding story of Christianity and casts a new light on Judas. Saeger disengages himself from a simple black and white perspective on Judas, which was popular for many centuries not only among laymen, but also among theologians. The author does not divide the characteristics into a pure and good Jesus on the one hand, and a bad and dishonest Judas on the other hand, but rather merges the two into one figure, expressed by making up the name Je-Judas-us at one point of his book. Saeger describes the two as an inseparable couple, where each of them has his special task to fulfil. Throughout the novel, Judas is being...
