Circular economy in the Czech surroundings - experience of companies and the view of experts

The diploma thesis deals with the concept of circular economy (hereinafter CE) and its application in several Czech and one multinational company. On these specific examples of companies, the work shows how circularity is achieved, with all the essentials of this fact, what support for the concept is offered in the Czech Republic and, last but not least, what obstacles and problems the companies face. Along with this practical experience, opinions by theoretical experts who deal with the issue in their profession are further examined. The aim of the work was to map the matter of use of secondary raw materials and other principles of CE in both practical and theoretical spheres of knowledge, and where possible, to compare these two views. Furthermore, the work focuses on the benefits of real use of the principles of CE in the Czech conditions from an environmental point of view. In its theoretical part, it first addresses the issue of waste in general, especially from the perspective of a global problem. It presents the development, current situation and forecast of the size of waste generation, including its impacts. The online platform consciousdesign.cz, created as the output of the thesis, provides sources for possible conscious approaches to design. It consists of a database of innovative materials, research texts, related links and interviews with designers, material specialists, scientists and technologists. The website can serve as a starting point for students and designers who are interested in current possibilities and new ways leading to design that is responsible to nature and humans.

The bachelor thesis deals with setting up a DIY e-shop and focuses on the means of its financing. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical one and practical one. The theoretical part includes the basic terms such as an entrepreneur, business plan and the sources of finance. The practical part consists of analysis of current state, which focuses on SWOT, SLEPTE and Porter analysis, and suggestion which focuses on business plan and the possibilities of source of finance.
Environmental Protection Legislation and The Possibility of Using Waste as a Secondary Raw Material With a Focus on the Recycling of PET Bottles

The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to analyze the recycling of plastics and the analysis of the recycling process of PET bottles in the company PETKA CZ, a.s. In the last analysis of the work influencing the ways to obtain input material for the production of recycling from PET bottles, management of plastic waste, proposals for improving the production of this company and at the same time the possibilities of reducing waste in the production of recycling. Furthermore, this work describes the legislative regulation of environmental protection, general principles of recycling, how to recycle the company PETKA CZ, a.s. It currently determines and at the same time how we could recycle this to use in the future.
Negative impacts of renewable resources on environment

Current society understands the need to protect the environment. Renewable energy resources are one of the major topics of environmental protection. Their benefits are reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The production process, operation, recycling, and possible accidents of renewable energy resources are investigated in each chapter. Attention was paid mainly to the most used renewable sources. Finally, the negative impacts are evaluated, and it is defined which renewable energy resources could be classified as ecological.
Use of recycled building materials to urban pavement constructions

This bachelor thesis describes the possibilities of construction and demolition waste management. It examines the issue of allocation and management of this waste and evaluates possibilities of their further use. It deals with production and use of recycled materials in construction of urban roads and economic advantage of recycled materials in comparison to natural aggregates. This work also discusses the issue of aerated concrete, as a modern building material, that will soon appear in construction and demolition waste to a greater extent. The practical part examines properties of mixed recyclates with a certain amount of brick and aerated concrete particles by testing the bulk density of grains and water absorption, freezing and thawing resistance and crushing resistance.
Study of durability of concrete with recycled concrete and brick

This bachelor thesis deals with issues of recycled concrete. The theoretical part describes the process of recycling the construction and demolition waste and describes requirements for recycled aggregate and recycled concrete in Czech republic and some of the member states of EU. The experimental part is focused on design of concrete with a substitution of coarse aggregate with a recycled concrete and brick aggregate.
The possibility of using recycled concrete for the production of structural concrete

The bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of recycled concrete aggregate and its use in the field of structural concrete. The aim of the work was to describe the possibility of complete or partial replacement of natural aggregates with recycled concrete aggregates for concretes of strength classes C16/20 to C30/37. The theoretical part is composed of findings from both domestic and foreign research and legislation, which were used to evaluate the possibility of more frequent use of recycled concrete aggregates in civil engineering in the Czech Republic. The experimental part consists of the design of concrete recipes with natural and concrete recycled aggregates and their economic evaluation.
Filament recycler for FDM 3D printers

The first part of the project is focused on various types of 3D printing technology, especially FDM technology, where is possibility of recycling printed material. Next is a description of the most used materials for printing by FMD technology and a description of the production of filament using screw extruders. Several devices were selected for recycling and production of filament from FDM printing, for which their technological procedure in recycling is described. Subsequently, the work deals with the design of a device for melting plastic using a screw extruding device, including the possibility of measuring and regulating the output. In the last part, according to the design, the device is assembled and tested.
The influence of environmental conditions of the recycling of solar modules

This thesis is focused on experiments, goal of which is to separate protective glass apart from thin layer solar panel. This could lead to less expensive and more efficient recycling. We try to achieve the separation of the glass by thawing ethylene vinyl acetate layer, which serves as insulant and bonding material. Experiments are concluded in high temperature dryer and high temperature vacuum oven on samples of thin layer solar panel, which is for the purposes of experiments cut into same pieces by water jet cutting machine. The initiatory experiments in dryer and oven are to determine value of ethylene vinyl acetate thaw point in tested samples of panel. The thaw point is determined to be 340 °C. When exposed to this temperature, the ethylene vinyl acetate thaws enough for glass to be able to be extracted with minimal physical strength. The process is accompanied by fire destruction of tedlar layer and creation of exhaust gases. Following experiments in vacuum and nitrogen environment are to test their influence on thawing process. Exposing sample to temperature of 340 °C in vacuum led to no new results. Exposing sample to temperature of 340 °C in nitrogen environment prevented fire and achieved same level of thawing of ethylene vinyl acetate while creating less exhaust gases. Even though the fire was prevented, tedlar layer was still destroyed by the high temperature. Furthermore, particles of evaporated ethylene vinyl acetate condensed on surface of module in form of dust. Following experiments studied absorption of panel and influence of accessible solvents on thawing process. It was determined that panel is able to absorb approximately 2 % of acetone, 0,4 % of isopropyl alcohol and 0,11 % of distilled water in its own weight. Experiments with modules soaked in these solvents proved no new results in thawing process. By observing samples of ethylene vinyl acetate taken from module, thawed out of module after experiment in vacuum oven and dust condensed on surface of module after experiment in nitrogen environment, it was proven that the condensed dust is indeed ethylene vinyl acetate.
