Missale Posoniense I. - diplomatic edition

Mgr. et Mgr. Adam SÝKORA: Missale Posoniense I. - diplomatic edition (rigorous thesis), Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Catholic Theology, 2011. In the present thesis the author provides a diplomatic edition of one of the oldest collegial missals of Bratislava Chapter House: Missale Posoniense I. It is a central source of European significance, which is pattern normative and representative in relation to the similar landmarks (eg Missale Posoniense A, B, C, II., III., IV.), and which was used in the Bratislava Chapter House before 1341st. The text of this Missal was previously published only in facsimile form, which bears the technical limitations of the period of its creation. Since that time, other foils have been discovered that have not been published at all. Professional public now has the text, with which can work effectively, moreover, it paves the way for a critical edition of the full text of the preserved parts, which the author intends to publish as dissertation. Pronunciation of Proper Names in Interpreting

This thesis addresses the pronunciation of proper names in simultaneous interpreting from French into Czech. It consists of 2 parts: the 1st, theoretical part discusses the definitions, categorization and functions of proper names as described in the relevant literature. The work then focuses on adoption of loanwords in Czech and on the specific situation of proper names in simultaneous interpreting. The empirical part analyses 600 personal names from speeches interpreted at plenary sessions of the European Parliament. The aim of the research is to describe the adaptation principles in pronunciation of proper names interpreted into Czech; the intelligibility of the used equivalents; and the frequency of use of female forms of surnames in the European Parliament. The results show that the prevailing adaptation principle is phonological approximation, which corresponds to the rules set by the codified pronunciation standard. Other common principles are retention of the original pronunciation and spelling pronunciation. Original pronunciation is more frequent in names of French origin, whereas spelling pronunciation is found mostly in English and German names. In the present thesis the author provides a critical edition of one of the oldest missals of Bratislava Chapter House: Missale Posoniense I. It is important source of European significance, which is pattern normative and representative in relation to the similar codices, and which was used in the Bratislava Chapter House before 1341st. Their significance is decisive since it is independent on the Missalia from the time Innocent III, and on the reform of Haymo of Faversham. The missal contains also the parts from Pontificale, Ordines and Breviarium. The text of this Missal was previously published only in facsimile form, which bears the technical limitations of the period of its creation. Since that time, other folios have been discovered that have not been published at all. Experts now has the text, with which can work effectively. Critical apparatus facilitate the work with the text, as well as indexes, tables and photo documentation attached. Biblical personal names in Czech Sign Language

(in English): In biblical times, names had their meanings but these days, we (and not only Czechs) do not perceive them anymore. This is one concern. Names in written languages have been translated or transcribed since Septuagint and Vulgata and therefore, their meanings have been beginning to be lost for the readers. They see just sounds in them. What does it mean in the matter of translating the names of biblical people into Czech Sign Language? And what about their meanings? We do not know much. And that is the topic of this thesis, its goal is to discover the origins of biblical people's sign names in Czech Sign Language and to find out their motivation. The thesis is proceeded from language data gathered through video excerption method from Bible bez hranic (Bible without boundaries) and elicitation method done amongst the deaf respondents from two teams (Prague, Brno). Both teams use identical signs due to their cooperation on the translation, which means the resulting sign names for biblical people must be unified, if possible. In Bible bez hranic project, the differences in sign names usage among the Deaf and sign names used in the project happened to be found.
