Pressure pain threshold evaluation in relation to the knee joint position - pilot study

The diploma thesis deals with the relationship between the level of stress of soft tissues and their pressure pain sensitivity. It aims to find out whether the level of tension in soft tissues, given by the position of neighbouring joints, affects the pressure pain threshold. The thesis assumptions were verified on a model situation with the sensitivity of the tissues of the ventral and dorsal sides of the thigh depending on the angular adjustment of the knee joint flexion. The theoretical part deals with the findings about biomechanical properties of soft tissues in relation to mechanical load and in the sense of tensile and compressive forces. It describes the mechanisms of tissue nociceptor activation and afferent signal transmission for processing by neurvous system. It distinguishes between the concepts of nociception and pain and deals with methods of their quantification, especially pressure algometry. A group of 30 (15 men and 15 women) healthy probands of younger adult age participated in the research. The values of the pressure pain threshold were measured for each person with an algometer from the ventral and dorsal side of the thigh with angular settings of 0ř, 45ř and 90ř flexion of the knee joint, with a constant position of the hip joint. The comparation of triggerlytic effect of combination therapy (ultrasound + TENS) and ultra electrostimulation

The thesis deals with the effect of two methods of physical therapy on myofascial trigger point, in particular combined therapy (US + TENS) and ultra- electrostimulation. Furthermore, there is investigated whether the release of MTrP is reflected in values of pressure pain threshold in chained muscles and there is discussed the use of combined therapy as an objectification tool. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with general and latest knowledge about myofascial trigger points. There are discussed some possibilities of the therapy with emphasis on physical therapy and transcutaneous electroneurostimulation, which form the basis for combined therapy (CT) and ultra-electrostimulation. The research part evaluates the effect of combined therapy and ultra-electrostimulation on a group of 12 probands randomly divided into two subgroups. Values of pressure pain threshold sensitivity, visual analogue pain scale (VAS) and the minimum intensity of electric current necessary to induce muscle contraction (measured by combined therapy) are used for objectification. Ultra-electrostimulation has proven to be a more effective method in VAS values, but in summary, the results cannot be considered statistically significant. Effect of foam rolling on mechano-nociceptive and vibrational sensation.

The thesis deals with the evaluation of the influence of foam rolling on selected parameters of somatosensory perception (pressure-algic threshold, vibrotactile sensation). The theoretical part discusses fascial tissue, summarizes the current knowledge of foam rolling and focuses on the mechanisms of pain and vibrotactile sensation. The research part consists of a randomized blind study on a group of 15 healthy probands (11 women, 4 men), which evaluates the effect of foam rolling. The effect is objectivized by pressure algometry and vibrametry on the m. rectus femoris and m. biceps femoris of both lower limbs (measured before and after therapy). The value of the pressure pain threshold (PPT) increased after foam rolling. Vibrotactile threshold (VT) was lower after foam rolling than before its use, which means that vibrotactile sensitivity was increased. The results show that these changes do not occur only in the interventioned m. rectus femoris, but some changes in parameters can be found in other muscles as well. The Effect of Kinesiotaping on Pain Threshold Alteration of Lower Limbs and Pelvis in Latin American Sport Dance Couples

Title: The Effect of Kinesiotaping on Pain Threshold Alteration of Lower Limbs and Pelvis in Latin American Sport Dance Couples Objectives: The aim of this study is to monitor the alteration of the pain threshold in predilective points of lower limbs and pelvis during loaded regime and to compare these changes with the control group with no kinesio tape. Methods: This experimental study employs intervention of kinesio tape applied to inhibit m. gastrocnemius medialis et lateralis and for mechanical correction of hallux valgus. There were five couples in experimental group and five couples in control group. The pain threshold change was objectivised by pressure algometer. Results: The measured data showed that the kinesiotaping has a positive influence on pain threshold in sport dance couples. In most dancers (9 out of 10) kinesio tape contributed to increasing or smaller decreasing of pain threshold with respect to the other lower limb. In comparison with the control group, pain threshold of dancers in the experimental group increased or decreased less even despite acute or subacute injury of the taped lower limb. Fascial tissues form a continuous whole-body three-dimensional network penetrating all parts of the human body. They include all fibrous connective tissue that significantly contributes both to themaintaining of the integrity of the organism and the functioning of body systems and the somesthetic perception.That is because of the facia is richly populated by proprioceptiveand mechanosensitive nociceptive nerve endings. Although the stretching is a routine method used in sports and rehabilitation, its exact mechanism of influence and effects on the body are not fully understood so far. Stretching exercises affect the mechanical state of the myofascial tissues and also the quality of the nociception and proprioception by alteration of their preload. There is evidence about some differences of the mechanical properties of the tissuesboth between thesexes and hypermobile individuals. The theses assesses the effect of static stretching m. Title: Evaluation of pain threshold by using the method of pressure algometry at selected muscular points in the area of shoulder girdle in karate practitioners. Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is to assess the pain threshold using the method of pressure algometry at selected muscle points while practising the technique choku-cuki in karate practitioners. Methods: The experiment is a pilot study which evaluates the pain threshold in m. latissimus dorzi, m. serratus anterior, m. trapezius pars descendent, ascendent and other selected muscles of both right and left shoulder girdles before exercising direct choku-cuki glow in the position of heiko-dachi stance and also controls the proper performance of given technique. Manual pressure algometer has been chosen as alternative objective method. Examined group consisted of ten male karate practitioners who had met the criteria specified for this study. Results: The results of measurements using pressure algometry in the muscles m. latissimus dorzi, m. serratus anterior, m. trapezius pars descendent, ascendent demonstrated that while practising the technique of the choku-cuki blow in the position of heiko-dachi stance, lowering of pain threshold in the contracted upper limb in comparison to the hitting one was observed.
