Provisional Constellation 2015
Kadlčák, Šimon ; Vítková,, Lenka (referee) ; Cenek, Filip (advisor)
The book Boční pohled na zatmění Slunce (Side View on Solar Eclipse) is an artistic attempt to articulate own creative methodology. Simple verbal declamations, quotations from books and conceptual sketches may be understood as a headword complement to my work of past few years. If the reader is, by any reason, unacquainted to that work, the book should work as an autonomous poetical unit.
The motivation for the use of metaphor in bird names
MELSKI, Dominik
This thesis aims to explore the possible reasons that motivate speakers to use metaphors in the naming units of natural organisms. The work deals with various approaches to the concept of metaphor, especially the concept of image metaphors defined by Lakoff (1992). This is followed by the description of onomasiology and onomasiological word formation models applied in the analysis. For the work, a corpus of metaphorical bird names was created. The names were sorted by the types of salient features that the metaphors express. The subsequent analysis takes place within these categories. In evaluating the motivation for the use of metaphor in the naming units, I adopted the classification suggested in Kos (2019), which I supplement with the newly observed trends. The resulting data are quantified and interpreted.

Plato's Cratylus: The Problem of Language
Vítková Fikejsová, Jana ; Holeček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Horáček, Filip (referee)
The thesis deals with the question of the speech in Plato's dialogue Cratylus, from the perspective of philosophical thematization of the commitment of speech in the relationship between man and the world, as it gradually appears in individual ideas of the text. I deal with different approaches to the language of both Socrates' partners in the conversation, Hermogenes and Cratylus. They both prove problematic for various reasons. Hermogens see language as the work of human consensus and agreement, but it seems as he underestimate the importance of it and see it as something haphazard or arbitrary. The commitment of speech seemed to be precisely what Socrates were trying to bring Hermogens to. Names say what we consider the things to be. By being the smallest part of speech that makes sense, they can decide on its truth or falsity. Through speech, we relate to the being and we obtain a certain stability that enables us to know things and share that knowledge, which is definitely not happening arbitrarily. However, it should be borne in mind that the names show the convictions of the people who gave them to the things, and not something like the true nature of those things, as Cratylus would have believed, so that we cannot rely entirely on them for knowing things. Key words: Plato, Cratylus, speech,...

The second part tracks occurrence of the expressions excerpted from the vocabulary Nová slova v češtině 1 a 2 and the article Pojmenování nových profesí u pozic v oblasti ekonomiky a podnikání (v rusko- českém srovnávacím plánu) by Ljuba Mrověcová (2009). The expressions were searched for in the corpus SYN 2010 and Neomat database. Lists of names, both found and not found in the sources mentioned above follow. The meaning of less known names is explained in the alphabetical vocabulary.
