Valency syntax in teaching practice
JAHODOVÁ, Aneta
The aim of the bachelor´s thesis is to present the basic principles of valence syntax in academic manuals and to map the extent to which these approaches are reflected in Czech language textbooks for the lower-secondary school level. The aim of this thesis is also to compare not only the content of this curriculum, but especially the methodological suitability and imaginativeness of approaches of various textbook series, possibly also design own approaches to teaching this issue at the lower-secondary school level.
Subject constancy in English texts compared with Czech
POTUŽNÍKOVÁ, Radka
This diploma thesis titled Subject constancy in English texts compared with Czech explores the relative constancy of subject in English complex sentences. The theoretical part of the thesis starts with a chapter about the subject as a clause constituent, then proceeds to define principles which influence word order in English and Czech, and lastly specifies what exactly, according to the Czech linguist Vilém Mathesius, is meant by the subject constancy. The practical part of the thesis focuses on language analysis which should confirm or disprove the theory about English having a much stronger inclination for subject constancy than Czech. The analysis was performed on authentic, stylistically diverse English texts and their equivalents in Czech, which is why the thesis also deals with the quality of translation.
Rhematic subjects in written English: regular preverbal position vs. focusing by it-cleft
Kudrnová, Anna ; Dušková, Libuše (advisor) ; Brůhová, Gabriela (referee)
The thesis aims to describe and compare the use of two English syntactic structures: sentences with a rhematic subject in the preverbal position and it-clefts with focused subject. It does so from the viewpoint of functional sentence perspective as conceived and elaborated by the members of the Prague Linguistic School and their Brno School followers. The main goal of the thesis is to determine whether the constructions are mutually exclusive or whether they can be under certain circumstances interchangeable. For the purposes of the analysis, 200 example sentences were collected from contemporary fiction, i.e. 100 for each construction. Subsequently, their relevant features were examined, especially those concerning dynamic semantic scales and realization form of the subjects; these aspects were expected to differ. The analysis has shown that each of the constructions has rather specific uses and they overlap only rarely, in sentences in which the two basic dynamic semantic scales, the Presentation Scale and the Quality Scale, intersect.

Form and Frequency of the Expression of Subject in Spanish and Czech Non-Literary Texts
ŽŮRKOVÁ, Petra
The purpose of this Diploma Thesis is to describe very clearly the form and frequency of the subject in Spanish non-literary texts in comparison with Czech. The Thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical passage is focused on description and characterization of Czech and Spanish subjects, based on particular representative grammars. I have used primarily The Hand Grammar of Czech Language for a description of the subject in Czech texts and to describe the subject in Spanish I have especially used The New Grammar of Spanish. Further theoretical chapters of the Thesis are focused on word order and journalistic style. The practical part contains the results of analysis of the form and frequency of the subject in non-literary texts. The result of these analysis helps us to compare all occurrences of researched languages. Summary in Spanish makes part in the end of this Thesis.
Complementation of infinitives and gerunds compared.
KODADOVÁ, Šárka
The diploma thesis explores whether the complementation of infinitives and gerunds, functioning as subject clauses, is different. Expecially it compares syntactic structures, relative length and complexity of the complementations and their roles in functional sentence perspective (whether elements are rather thematic or rhematic etc.). Furthemore it explores whether the form of complementation is affected by the position of infinitive of gerund, it means if there is any difference between the complementations of non-finite verb in initial position and extraposition. The research is based on the relevant academic writing and on authentic instances of gerunds and infinitives from the present sources of literature.
Analysis of parallel regulatory action of emission trading system, environmental related taxation and charges
Pavlásková, Šárka ; Jílková, Jiřina (advisor) ; Slavíková, Lenka (referee)
The graduation theses is focused on problems of reduction of emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which are contributing to acceleration of climate change. From 2005 the EU ETS cames into force, but many economics subjects, which yield to this system of regulation, have to pay environmental taxes as well, because individual member states have adopted own approaches to the problem of abatement emission. Economic subject then face to double burden and that is why they complains. Double steering and double burden should be avoided by reducing and removing the existing CO2 taxation schemes, because it brings inefficiency - like very high cots of abatement emission.
