The visual image of Czech public figure suicide in print media
Novotný, Filip ; Lábová, Alena (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the media image of Czech public figure suicide in print media. Selected for analysis were the deaths of actor Vlastimil Brodský, composer Karel Svoboda, and singer Iveta Bartošová. The media to analyze are Blesk, a leading Czech tabloid, Mladá fronta DNES, a popular middlebrow newspaper, and Lidové noviny, commonly considered a serious, reputable daily. The goal of this paper is to compare the approaches amongst the selected media to the depiction of public figures and the sensitive issue of suicide, and secondly, to demonstrate the eventual progressional change thereof. Should a clear difference be proven to exist, this paper might also - as a secondary goal - become a minor contribution to the discussion concerning the supposed tabloidization of Czech media. The photographic work of Markéta Luskačová
Dorňáková, Anna ; Láb, Filip (advisor) ; Teplá, Jana (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the photographic work which the documentarian Markéta Luskačová has created since the year 1964 up to the present. The work briefly summarizes the evolution of photojournalism after the so-called 1948 Victorious February and also covers the role of women in the profession of photojournalism. The thesis also discusses the photographic document, particularly sociological document, as this designation easily summarizes the work of the author. I outline the life of Markéta Luskačová and then I analyse her main photographic cycles in the second part of the work. Pilgrimages and children belong to the most important topics of Luskačová's work. I use the method of visual analysis which Gillan Rose has called The Good Eye. The method observes technical elements of pictures, for example a tonal contrast or a framing. I supplement The Good Eye method with the semiological analysis which interprets the meaning of visual elements. The important source of information is - besides reference works - the documentarian Markéta Luskačová herself. I analyse not only her work but also her life in interviews with the photographer. The whole text of interviews is to be found in appendixes of the work.

The practical part of the work is a case study of a photoreportage by TIME magazine on Instagram which captured hurricane Sandy in 2012. This innovative photojournalistic method is compared with reportages done on similar events in 2005 and 2011.
