Nurse roles on department of children psychiatry
BRYCHTOVÁ, Barbora
Current state of affairs This diploma thesis deals with the roles of a nurse in child inpatient psychiatry, how the roles are perceived by the nurses themselves, how they are perceived by their pediatric patients and how much these views differ. Objectives of the work Two research goals were set in this paper. Objective 1: To find out how the nurses' roles in the department of child psychiatry are perceived by the nurses themselves. Objective 2: To find out how the roles of a nurse in the department of child psychiatry are perceived by child patients. The methodology During the implementation of the research survey for this diploma thesis, a qualitative research survey in the form of a semi-structured interview was used. The interviews were recorded on a dictaphone, transcripts were created and these were then keyed. The sample group consisted of a total of 12 nurses and 10 patients. The entire research was carried out in the Children's Psychiatric Hospital. Results The obtained data were divided into a group of nurses and a group of patients. Three categories were determined in each of these groups, within which subcategories were created. It was found that nurses and patients have a clear idea of the ideal nurse working in child psychiatry, but they only partially agree. The roles of the nurse were perceived significantly differently when comparing the interviews of nurses and patients. The conclusion The research shows that there is a conflict in the perception of the roles of nurses in the perspective of nurses and their pediatric patients. Nurses perceive their roles positively, while patients perceive their roles they perceive them rather negatively. This conflict can be a major obstacle to providing sensitive care to pedopsychiatric patients.
