The Problem of Art Forgery

This bachelor thesis will deal with the issue of counterfeit and stylishly imitated works of art, their identity with a focus on theoretical problems that the existence of falsified artworks brings. Firstly, the most famous examples of revealed artistic falsum will be introduced. Consequently, I will analyze aesthetic and ethical problems caused by the phenomenon of artistic falsification. An important part of this work will be formulation of artworks' identity problems, especially in relation to the Anglo-American aesthetics. One of the most important sources for this work will be a monograph by Tomáš Kulka: Umění a falzum (2004) and his conception of dualism in aesthetic theory. In addition to Kulka's approach, I will mention authors such as Nelson Goodman, Denis Dutton, Mark Sagoff and Arthur Koestler. The aim of this work is to evaluate a functionality of presented approaches to the given issue.
Falsification of paintings and its impact on the Czech art market

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the impacts of the falsification of paintings on the art market and on individuals. Another aim of the thesis is to identify the risk factors of buying art works on the Czech market. The partial aim is to bring to readers a comprehensive view of the issue of the falsification of paintings on the domestic art market. The theoretical part is based on the literature that has not been published so far and maps the basic mechanisms of falsification of paintings. The practical part is based on interviews with experts, criminologists and collectors who have a personal experience of buying a forger. Based on the results of the interviews, the issues of falsification of painting works are answered, the most frequently falsified Czech artists are identified and the risk factors that lead to the purchase of counterfeit. Three artists demonstrate an analysis of expertise and forensic technique in determining the authenticity of the art work.
The phenomenon of the falsifications of the objects of fine arts

The thesis focuses on theoretical analysis of the cultural phenomenon of artwork forgery. It describes the history of forgery in painting and sculpting in the Western society. The analysis is based mostly on philosophy and history of art, psychology, and history. The culturological approach is used, mainly in the interdisciplinary mapping of the historical and psychological process of artwork forgery. The thesis analyses contemporary approaches to the identity of artwork and its forgery, it also depicts partial problems of artwork forgery. To challenge this phenomenon, famous examples of forgers are used and decribed, such as Alceo Dossena, Han van Meegeren, Eric Hebborn, and Wolfgang Beltracchi. The situation and legal concenquences for forgers in the Czech Republic are also described. The aim of this thesis is to offer a complex overview of the phenomenon of artwork forgery.
Selected issues related to czech currency topics

This dissertation deals with selected issues in currency in the Czech republic. To understand the problem it is important to define the concepts related to this topic. The thesis includes basic information about money, their forms and protective elements, payment cards and their safety elements mainly because of preventive measures , which should each currency manager excercise in its competence. In the dissertation there are explained the differences between forgery and altering the money and their ways of forgery not to lead to further transmission and the falsification could be withdrawn from the circulation. The thesis also defines ways and types of frauds carried out on means of payment. Next there is statistical comparison of amount of money detained -counterfeinetd and amanded- by Police CR in 2011/2014. Finally by using a questionnaire we obtain the information about experience and public awareness of Trutnov citizens about counterfeinetd and amanded money, payment cards, their safe handling and dealing with possible situation connected with this issue.
Selected legal questions concerning artwork

This diploma thesis deals with selected legal questions regarding artwork in Czech Republic. Author focuses on artwork from copyright and civil legal perspective, specifically author´s rights and copyright and its legal protection (civil, administrative and criminal). It also addresses questions concerning licenses and licensing agreements, relation between artwork and its material object, buying and selling artwork, purchase agreement and other types of contract that artists usually encounter. The aim of this thesis is to identify the current state of legislation in this matter and issues that need to be addressed. Among other methods, author used a comparative method and a research in a form of survey in this thesis.
The analysis of crime in the banking

-The thesis was focused on the analysis of damage and wear of coins and banknotes. And then there was analyzed the counterfeiting of the Czech banknotes and coins. All analyzed date were summarized in the tables and in the graphs. This analysis of the Czech crowns was compared with the same analysis of the euro bankonetes. The counterfeiting of money is not the only crime in the banking. The next possibility of the crime in the banking is the skimming of ATM (automatic teller machine). The one of parts of thesis was focused on it. There was performed the analysis of the number of cases of skimming in Czech Republic. This was compared with the analysis of the number of cases of skimming in European Union too.
Forgery and Authenticity

My bachelor thesis analyses the problem of forgery. The reference text for my work was chapter "Art and Authenticity" from the book Languages of Art: An general Approach to a Theory of Symbols by Nelson Goodman. I focus on forgery especially in relation to the literary text and image, pilot genres for forgery analysis. Possibility of forgery of other artistic genres I describe only marginally. The key question of my thesis: Does perfect forgery exist? Or it is impossible to make the forgery perfect?
Money counterfeiting

This bachelor thesis is divided into 8 parts. After the Introduction, that explains basic terms, as for example counterfeiting, doctoring or imitation of money, the chapter about the history of the counterfeiting from the ancient time to the end of the Second World War follows. The third chapter is called "Legislative framework of money protection" and is concerned with public notices of the Czech national bank, the criminal code or the International Convention for the Suppression ofCcounterfeiting Currency. The chapter 4 is about protecting elements. Basic information about Czech coins and banknotes could be found in chapter 5. The next part is concerned with the actual situation in the Czech Republic and brings some cases of faking money and judgements of courts. A part about counterfeiting in the rest of the world follows. The epilogue closes the whole thesis.
Counterfeiting of Money

The thesis is divided into six chapters. It focuses on the history of money and counterfeiting, describes different legislation dealing with counterfeiting. In detail, the thesis deals with the Czech legislation according to the current and prospective penal code. The fourth chapter is dedicated to the anti-counterfeiting features on current Czech bills and coins. The fifth chapter describes counterfeiters and counterfeits and the last chapter is dedicated to the interesting Czech adjudications in this field.
