Small States Thinking Big: Comparative Analysis of the Czech Presidencies of the Council of the European Union in 2009 and 2022

This study focuses on the two Czech presidencies in the Council of the EU. It approaches them via the lens of two theoretical concepts - the small state, and Pierre Bourdieu's symbolic power. The main objectives of the thesis are to observe the relevance of the two concepts in application to the selected case (Czech Republic) and to shed light on a relatively new and often overlooked subject. To fulfill the objectives, the study follows qualitative research, utilizing the research design of an embedded single case study. To answer the research question, the thesis firstly focuses on an in-depth discussion of the theoretical underpinnings and gives an overview of the general discourse surrounding the concept of a rotating Council presidency. It then goes on to examine the domestic and international settings of the two presidencies, their manifest and latent goals, and the outcomes of negotiations and communication strategies. By placing the two presidencies against one another, the thesis concludes that while relations between states may be asymmetrical, symbolic power may improve a given state's position within the system once the state uses the granted power wisely and effectively. This diploma thesis deals with Romanian presidency in the Council of the EU in the first half of 2019. The purpose of this thesis is the analysis of particular Romanian steps that led to the legislative progress in context and to the evaluation of Romanian presidency. In the first part, author defines the matter of presidency mandate in the Council of the EU. The second part is dedicated to the state of Romania, its relations with EU and the circumstances of the starting phase as a head of the Council of the EU. In the third part of the thesis there are analyzed steps leading to the legislative progress that was achieved under the leadership of Romania. In the last part, the Romanian presidency is also evaluated according to the priority pillars of Romania.
The Comparison of Attitudes of Ireland and Great Britain in Selected Aspects of the European Integration

The diploma thesis "Komparace postojů Irska a Velké Británie u vybraných aspektů Evropské integrace" deals with attitudes of Great Britain and Ireland to the politics of the European Union. Based on the available literature (using the descriptive and analytical method), the thesis proves how divergent or vice versa accordance are particular policies and approaches of these two states, whose past is completely different and has fundamental influence on contemporary access of these members to the European Union. In the history of Great Britain's and the European Union's relation it is always possible to find a certain fact that distinguished Britain from other partners in the European Union. It is then also different from the neighbouring Ireland. The diploma thesis analyses first of all the financial framework of the European Union, its regional and foreign policy. It is divided into five chapters - besides already mentioned regional, economic and foreign policy, the diploma thesis delas with the access of Ireland and Great Britain to European referendums, accentuated is first of all the referendum on the Treaty of Nice and the contemporary debate on the rejected Treaty of Lisbon. EU energy policy in the context of the Czech Presidency

Energy policy is one of the most important policies within the EU, whether it is considered from national or all-European point of view. Almost no European state has sufficient reserves of natural resources such as oil or natural gas and so most of them have to ensure supplies of the resources from other countries. As a result, the EU tries to solve this problem, as well as to ensure secure energy supplies for its member states. Each member can influence EU policies through the Presidency of the Council of EU. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the EU energy policy and includes the history of its formation. In the second part, the Presidency of the Council of EU as well as its importance for particular states and the basic principles are described. The final part analyzes the Czech Presidency with focus on energetics. The aim of this thesis is to analyze priorities of the Czech Presidency in the field of energy and to evaluate the success of Czech Presidency based on their achievements.

Bachelor thesis Evaluation of the influence coming from the activities organised in the South Bohemia during the Czech Presidency in the EU is split into three chapters. First chapter consist of theoretical part that describes institutional system of European Union and system of EU Council presidency rotation. Second part focus on presidency of Czech republic, institutional security of South Bohemia region and presentation of culture activities and professional workshops within the South Bohemia region or in Brussels. Center of the work is given on third chapter that aims to evaluate importance of organized activities. A summary in Frech and bilingual glossary are included.
Preparation and Organization of the EU Council Presidency

The thesis analyses the activities which are realized within the preparation and organization of the EU Council Presidency, namely both at the general level and also in the concrete case of the Czech presidency, with the priority focus on logistic and promotional aspects. The subject matter of the thesis is also an evaluation of the presidency, which presents the important part of its organizational support. The principal aim of the thesis is to stress the cardinal importance of the preparation and organization for the successful execution of the presidency.
